Hi i am looking for a new desktop that i am building. mostly to play minecraft at high settings but other games. my budget is $500. i want to get all the parts at compusa because i live right next to one lowering the shipping cost.
so here is what i put together:
Case-Cooler Master Elite 430 Mid Tower case $49.99
Cpu-AMD Athlon X2 255 AM3 2mb cahce $64.99 (will upgrade this later)
MoBo- Zotac Micro atx with 1333mhz ddr3 sata 3 raid and intergrated geforce 6100!!!
PSU- Apevia ATX-TL 450w power supply atx 80mm van (will upgade this also) $19.99
RAM-Transcend 1333Mhz 4gb ram $39.99
HD-Western Digital 500gb 7200rpm 16mb cache sata-300 $39.99
windows 7 home premium 64 bit $99.99
now as your reading this your probably thinking this guy has no gpu. now my other question is what gpu to use. im either looking at an EVGA 9800 GT akimbo 512mb gddr3 or an ati radeon 5670 1gb gddr5 but you tell me the gpu
the total price of this config without a gpu is $359.93 plus with tax and s+h it goes up to $393.70
Replace the PSU for a brand model (this one's a piece of crap that won't last) and you forgot your optical drive. (Just get the cheapest one with dvd burning abilities)
Also, the HD5770 is a great model for mid-range pc's. Look into that one, I've used two of them and they work very well.
Come to America, the land of the freeloaders, the home of the cowardly, where we have... unlimited Internet access!
Funny, the majority of people I've met who have limited bandwidth are from America. I'm Dutch myself and I use 1TB+ of bandwidth monthly; I haven't seen internet plans around here with limited bandwidth in ages.
About which distribution to use, I use KNOPPIX off an USB drive myself and it runs a LOT more stable than Ubuntu simply because KNOPPIX is made for LiveCD purposes. Might want to try that one.
anything up to aroudnd 60~70 FPS is higher than your eyes actually can notice, so thats not really visible to you. what is though, is the refresh rate of the screen. AKA the Hz.
IMO the whole eye limit is a piece of ****; everyone has different eyes so its impossible to set a limit to this. I just always hold onto the monitor's refreshing rate, which is a solid value.
On the PSU; I've been using a nice Chieftec 850W for two years now, and its performance is pretty much the same as the PSU's currently in store. Its efficiency is +80%, modular, and gives plenty of connections. So far I've upgraded quite a lot and its still running smooth and clean! Honestly PSU's barely ever have "big" new features that will actually help your computer's performance. Just take a good one with room for future upgrades and you're fine.
As for the optical drive, get the cheapest one possible that still burns DVD's. The last time I burned a disk was a few months ago, and I'm pretty sure you barely ever burn one either. (which is funny, because my second drive is identical to the one you chose. However mine was only 20 bucks, wtf)
Nothin, you're reacting over nothin' (lolololol see that I made a joke)
Anyways, today at school I was trying to find some stuff for a project and I somehow landed on one of those pages that perform a fake virusscan and everything. You know, showing you a fake of "My Computer" and then throwing virus pictures at it, claiming I have to install their program and fix ****. While the whole thing looked pretty convincing, and the emulated explorer window was pretty good, one thing was just out of place.

two bucks cheaper and actually has a bit faster writing speed :smile.gif:
Also, I use this HDD model:

Its cheaper than the one you chose and has twice the cache. It runs at 7200RPM here so I don't know why the site lists it as 5400-7200.
