They blew everything up and while it is their right as admins I felt like I really couldn't enjoy the game.
That's not their rights as an admin, it's an abuse of their members and they don't deserve to have you be loyal to them. The admins should be there to serve and help you, not abuse you and drive you away, but I digress.
I don't understand why you cant host a server locally if it will only be you and another friend? I've hosted and played on the same machine before (2 years ago) with 20 players on without major lag issues, on a iMac...
You may want to look into hosting locally, or find a free 256mb ram server somewhere, i'm sure they are out there still.
PlaySMP is right, you're definitely getting scammed.
The best you could get do yourself is find a host with a 1Gbps line, most server stressers (whats used to ddos, aka a booter) might not take you down if your on an unsaturated 1Gbps line.
You don't have to take our word for it, just rent a server stresser and test out your 'protection'. Don't you think if real protection was so cheap, more hosts would be offering real protection?
Unrelated to his sales trashing, but 2.3Ghz for a MC server can't be that great, do you have any test servers set up? BTW I've seen your thread on HF, and heard some good reviews, I'm just wondering how well a server runs on that relatively low clock speed.
Quantum Blocks is offering up to 40% off our Tier 2 packages for aspiring server owners! Contact 'milky-wayz' on Skype to discuss any details or concerns!
I noticed you haven't mentioned your monthly budget, if in the case you weren't looking for free hosting. Quantum Blocks would be able to provide Xen VPS hosting. Xen is much more stable then other virtualization hypervisors, and it performs better with Java too.
Specs:
Xeon E3-1230V2 (1x3.3Ghz)
4.3Gb of ram
105Gb HDD
1Gbps connection
Dedicated IP / SSH access
This VPS is priced at $30/month after the promo code is used, however we could work out a better deal if you'd like to contact me through PM or Skype.
If you're looking for a high quality Xen VPS, then Quantum Blocks has what you're looking for.
Server specs
Xeon E3-1230v2 (1x3.3Ghz)
4.3Gb Ram
105Gb HDD space
1Gbps connection
The above package is $30/month using the promo code from the sales thread.
The reason why Xen is more expensive is due to it's inability to be oversold, your server gets dedicated resources which is essential for a professional server!
Our servers are never oversold, you get dedicated resources for your VPS!
We over allocate memory to each VPS enough RAM for the OS and your server! Among the other services you may be using it for!
Our 4GB servers come with 4.3GB of Ram!
Our 2GB servers come with 2.2GB of Ram!
We provide both HDD hosting and SSD hosting, our lowest HDD size is Tier 1 with 50GB, whereas Tier 3 gets 25GB of SSD storage!
Each box is equipped with a 1Gbps connection, with up to a max of 7 VPS's sharing that connection, your VPS will come with a baseline DDoS protection.
1Gbps is usually enough to absorb most attacks, I've tested a few server stresser tools and they've failed to bring down one of our boxes, if your server is getting DDoS'd we'll work with you to mitigate it, minimizing your downtime!
We currently provide hosting in Ashburn, VA. This puts your server in a tactical location in a world class datacenter, giving your players ultra low latencies which improves their game experience!
The Minecraft Game Server Providers (GSPs) restrict you to only using the Multicraft or a similar panel, severely reducing your ability to properly manage your server.
Without root access, you miss out on the flexibility and power that is available when you have root SSH access. From scheduling hourly cronjob backups to installing proxies such as BungeeCord or LillyPad, all of this is functionality and flexibility you'd never find with shared hosting
So why Xen and not KVM / OpenVZ?: Xen-based virtualisation, unlike the alternatives (KVM and OpenVZ), provide your VPS with dedicated resources and it's own kernel. This ensures your server performance is not only impeccable, but also extremely reliable!
Not oversold, overselling is the practice of putting more servers on a machine then it can handle essentially. This cannot be done with Xen and is a primary reason why your performance is always awesome!
As previously mentioned, GSPs severely restrict you as far as what you can do with your server. With a VPS you can run your website, host your server, and run various other tasks all on one service.
With a VPS you can zip and tar your world files, downloading them in a compressed form is exponentially faster then downloading it as a directory.
With a VPS, you can use PHPMyAdmin to manage your MySQL, and modify the settings to your preferences / needs.
True freedom, you have the ability to modify nearly anything you want on your machine, you are not limited to running a server with it!
Helpful support: Our team knows the best practices for running a server, from security to performance enhancements, we got you covered. Just make a ticket with your questions or concerns and we'll do our utmost to provide you with the best solutions.
Ample docs: We have a excellent knowledge base that helps you with setting up, securing, and managing your VPS.
Budget pricing: For a Xen VPS, our prices for the most part trump competitors, this is not due to a poor service but rather due to competitors overcharging.
Common Sense: We put our customers before profit, and dedicate all revenue to be reinvested back into upgrading our hardware and providing even better deals for everyone! We don't try and sell servers that aren't suitable for Minecraft hosting like so many other hosts in this section.
Found a host and already purchased, thanks for the offers but nothing offers could beat the price / specs I got with SecuredServers. Thanks xboxhacks for the suggestion, I gave them another look and actually got my dream specs for 115$ per month after I got a discount from them.
Looking for a dedicated hosting service, currently I host from home (without any problem, I have a dedicated machine with good internet) and to launch a new games network I had planned I will need to move to a dedicated server. I know how to handle linux, I just need to find a decent deal.
My dream specs:
Atleast E3-1230 v2 (I'd really like a E3-1240 V2)
Atleast 8gb of Ram (Ability to upgrade if needed would again, be fantastic)
Most definitely an SSD with atleast 64gb of space (nothing less than an ssd)
1gbps connection (bandwidth limit reasonable -> 3.2TB+ per month)
My budget:
I'd like to get the core specs I provided for around 100$-130$ per month.
Theres no way I am paying more than 150$ per month for this, until my community is at the point where I can dish out 150$ per month and have donations easily cover that, I can't afford it.
Location:
The ability to choose the location would be great, I would prefer a place like Chicago where it's geographically in the mid region of the US though.
Availability:
I'd like this to be setup as soon as possible, so if you don't have a deal I could buy today and have it begin being setup with the next few days tops then please don't post.
Conclusion:
If you've neglected to read the post, please don't bother posting your affiliate links to crap hosts I have no interest in. This is for serious suggestions, thank you
I'm willing to compromise if need be, but I will not bend over and let just some host screw me over. If I can't find one thats decent I'll just scrap my future plans and continue home hosted, as I really have no issue doing so.
Thanks for checking out this thread, and thanks to all whom may suggest valid hosts.
List of hosts I've checked out already:
Limestone Networks
Secured Servers (Am very close to buying from them)

No such thing sorry, real protection does not come cheap.
