    Thank you so much for this mod! with this all the agrarian skies servers with people and without lag are no longer untolerable to me with all the ad spam every several minutes. now, all is blissfully quiet from the server and i can focus on enjoying the game instead of hearing how the server has a teamspeak all the time!

    I personally (And many others) absolutely HATE spam when we first join servers. Plugins that generate a HUGE wall of text when joining a server is extremely off-putting. A Simple welcome message will suffice.


    I Guess the main thing here, is advertise where possible. Act like you're an owner of a business rather than a minecraft server and people will admire what you do, causing your demographic to tell their friends what an awesome experience your "Business" is.


    In all honesty, there's nothing you have that other servers don't. People are quick to act when it comes to minecraft development, leaving your ideas blank and seemingly useless.


    This, so much. I'm having an issue where the only agrarian skies 2 server i found is pretty good, but the only problem is the server is all the way in germany, causing an annoying delay and lag spikes for me here in california. I wish there was a plugin or mod for the client to disable server ads entirely so I could join one of the closer servers, without being even more irritated by the "vote for us here" ads every 5-30 minutes.

    WTB adblock plus for minecraft servers.

    I see order as dangerous as chaos in excess, myself. living things are a balance of both. too much chaos in any lifeform and you wind up with a puddle of disordered atoms (goo), too much order and you wind up with a frozen crystal lattice. likewise with society. on one extreme you have anarchy, on the other a society that seems like a utopia, where everything is orderly and perfect, but where laws are extremely oppressive and free will doesn't exist. any research into the opposite of chaotic warp should be just as dangerous in its own way.

    I've followed BTW for years, including the forge fiasco. I'm glad he left forge, because it let him focus entirely on his mods balance without worrying about having to deal with other mods breaking that balance. hence its a total conversion, not a mod. complaining about why BTW isn't compatible with thaumcraft 4 (as much as i would love a better than thaumcraft :P) is like whining why BTW isn't compatible with skyrim. at this point, BTW isn't even minecraft anymore, it's its own game that happens to share some underlying looks and mechanics with minecraft.


    In all my time of following FC's post, he's never done things out of spite or temper tantrums. He simply just doesn't tolerate people begging and whining, pestering, unsolicited suggestions... basically people who are being rude to him, intentionally or not. Yes, it can aggravate people, which is probably why he's gotten such an ill reputation... but he got that simply because he doesn't put up with the same nonsense that other mod authors politely do, because he doesn't have to and doesn't want to. He's basically a guy telling people barging into his house uninvited to leave at gunpoint instead of politely inviting them to dinner until they go away on their own. if you happen to be a hero who barges into peoples houses to smash their pots for rupees, perhaps its just time you who needed a wake up call on your behavior.

    glad to hear it, although i'm not terribly surprised... your mod stuff always seems to come out beautiful looking, and i know you mentioned it being unfinished! not sure if a partly transparent texture at the base of the crystals would work, sort of like veins of crystal/bits of grunge/bits of transparent parts so that the underlying rock or dirt texture would show through... i dont know if that would work though, or even if it would be more practical even if it did. :P

    but yeah, you're definitely doing the right thing placing mechanics over aesthetics at this point. :D i can't wait to see all the fun things in store! your mod's the only other one besides better than wolves that i've sunk hundreds of hours into and enjoyed every bit of. i'm glad to hear of taint being more of a menace again as well, vanilla minecraft just doesn't have much incentives to build large automated facilities and logistical puzzles (which is odd for a building game) and most mods just give you a bunch of overpowered abilities and no real threat to make said items required to survive. infusion was a real treat to me, especially when i ran out of crystals at one point making a boots of the traveler and couldn't find more. was trying to save the infusion, finally had to call it quits and got killed by the infuser from all the instability kickback. XD

    the thing is, these crystals don't look like they grew on the rocks surface at all, but are just some pretty cut crystals some thamaturge stuck on a rock for the heck of it. they dont look stuck on at all. and who's to say they didn't grow out of the rock? if the vis was in the earth, then it oozed out of the rocks. in that case it shouldve carried dirt and stone along with it, trapped in the crystal as it formed.


    even if it percolated out of the air, it would trap dust along with it, perhaps random bits of pebbles and the like created by wandering zombies murdering hapless steves and kicking his corpse about.


    theres a reason why we have the saying, "a diamond in the rough". it means something or someone valuable and beautiful in some way, but unpolished and uncut, seemingly just a glassy white stone. uncut gemstones in the rough may be pretty, but theyre hardly free of imperfections regardless of the medium they were formed in.

    perhaps i should reword it differently... the aesthetics of the crystals don't quite mesh well with the vanilla minecraft blocks. it's not that they look bad persay, but you see it and think "oh, this is mod content" not "huh, did they add crystals to minecraft?" it's kind of how vanilla's horse looks off a bit, because they didn't respect the original aesthetic of keeping things simple looking, and it showed up with all its "alligator mouth" glory and hi-def polygonness when most mobs look like a few blocks stuck together.


    and since things like diamond and emerald blocks have the gems melded in with the parent rock, it makes sense to try and have the crystals look like their part of the parent rock instead of just stuck on top of it by making them more grungy. when gemstones form, they percolate out of solution, and tend to pick up impurities along the way, they form in rough shapes, they look "organic". they do not form perfect 100 carat shapes ready to be stuck on a ring on their own, and i doubt magical essence crystallizing into solid form would be any different.

    well he does have to take processsing into account. if he puts too much polygons in the crystals, or too many things that require minecraft to keep track of, then anyone with a computer less than perfect is going to be bogged down with crushing lag from it having to render hundreds, if not thousands of these things at once. but i'm not a coder, so i can't say where the limitations are designwise on these. :x

    My only real complaint with the crystals is that they look too "pure" and saturated in color to me, almost like a creeper blew up with skittles in his pocket and they got stuck in the rocks... most crystals in raw form you find tend to be kind of grungy near their base, where their minerals are blended in with the parent rock. plus, crystals in raw form tend to be less shiny in general... diamonds look like glossy white glass, emeralds tend to have a mottled mix of greens, that sort of thing.


    in other words, make your crystals beautifully ugly! :P though if it's even possible to make them take on some of the appearance of their parent rock, i dont know... but i do like the clustered appearance. perhaps a greater variation of size between the largest and smallest individual shards would make it look even more natural, as would the smaller shards tending to cluster very close together to the point they're touching, similar to how a geode looks inside.


    but i'm sure you have better things to do with your time than to make the crystals perfect, especially when everyone has a different idea of what perfection looks like XD

    heya everyone, i was wondering if there were any servers with say, thaumcraft 4 and mystcraft in them. i've tried looking around but i can't seem to find any that aren't long gone. a thaumcraft servers the main thing i'm looking for though, mystcraft is just so its easier to find a place i like to build on. :x

    Dangit FC, i was just starting to get all comfy with my thaumcraft world and now you come and do this to me. hardcore slime intrigues me!


    Also, your mod is horribly spoiling me. Not only do i miss being able to shift click things from inventory to crafting table and visa versa, but i was filling in a large area with logs in thaumcraft, when i had the brilliant idea of using a stake and string to quickly "fill in" big lines, then using the wand focus: equal trade to swap the string line blocks with logs, rapidly filling the area in.



    ...then i realized stakes were a better than wolves item. /cry

    Hey FC, do you plan on fixing the conflict between hardcore of darkness and void fog? Near bedrock level, the void fog causes the darkness to turn to a murky blue color that lets you see deep into it, letting you see the general shape of the cave/ravine and the silhouettes of any mobs there. Kind of detracts from the scary tension of what lies deeper in a cavern. ;;


    ::Edit:: Thats odd, i went to try and get a picture of it, and my void fog is entirely gone... I was wondering why the bug wasn't working and i was hallucinating, then i checked by digging a quick tunnel and placing some torches down, and i could see the furthest off torch from 50 blocks away easily... I wonder if installing optifine in my other save removed it entirely from my minecraft folder... Incidentally, without void fog, everything is pitch black without light even from very far distances, so its definitely the void fog interfering with hardcore of darkness. <_<;


    AndI've been playing thaumcraft 4/mystcraft lately on 1.7.1. Holy hells is it laggy, despite optifine/2G memory allocated/tiny render distance/everything turned down. I keep getting massive lag spikes when chunks load, or even just sitting still. Yet I can play BTW with near maxed settings and no lag at all... I wish more mod authors cared about optimization like you do. And while theyre fun to play, even the intricacies of arcane infusing can't hold a candle to the terrors of BTW... i miss my hatsies. D: (although said infuser does happen to be inthe middle of a meltdown due to instability and a lack of entropy shards... i may or may not come back to a smoking crater where my base was...)

    as far as building tall structures go, what i do is build the first layer, leaving a gap at one end. (one block wide is enough). then build a second and third layer, but stop one block short at that gap on one end for the second layer, and two blocks short for the third. repeat, each time leaving another block less. this results in a natural stairway you can go up to reach the top of your structure. then, after you've done the walls and roof, just go back with enough blocks to fill in the stairway gap, and starting at the bottom, fill it in.

    ...that being said, make sure you have a safe way to get back down, either via enderpearl, ladders, a pool of water to jump into you won't miss hitting, or a rope and anchor to climb back down. if you use a ladder though, you kinda don't need the stairway thing in the first place haha.

    pretty much, although as mentioned, a full moon is a great time to fish as well, regardless of time of night. rain also calls em out i believe. it's not IMPOSSIBLE to catch a fish in the middle of the night, but it is rather rare, as opposed to the most favorable conditions where you toss in a bait and it bites in seconds usually.
