    Quote from Shindoukun

Proloe, if you switched to Forge, you would be able to a. have your mod used by more people because most don't feel like having 1 mod vs. having many, MANY mods with Forge, and b. you would have access to the Ore Dictionary, which would make things so much easier than decompling IC source code. I can almost guarantee your mod will die if it doesn't stop using all the Sprite ID's...sad but true, look at all the old mods that are now gone because they refused to play with others.

Now look at the mods who play well with others, they are successful:P

*sigh* I had hoped that me saying about once every three or four posts would be enough, but apparently no-one cares enough to read.

I am going to switch to Forge with the next update. The reason I have temporarily halted progress on the mod is because I am waiting for Minecraft and Forge to update, so that I can begin the lengthy conversion process. I don't have all too much free time at the moment, so I'm likely going to wait until Christmas to do it.

Oh, by the way, to counter your point, The Aether has a rather low compatibility rate (on account of it using an API that not many other large mods use, which edits common and vital files in the standard Minecraft code), but it is one of the most successful mods out there. Not trying to infer anything by this, I just thought it interesting.

posted a message on Modder's Union
Welcome to the Modder's Union! We, the modders of Minecraft, provide a service to the community, and as such are entering into a union.

Visit the Texture Artist's Union, too! There's nothing stopping you being a member of both Unions, and they will work very closely together to ensure that everyone is happy.

We work together to ensure that our work remains our own, and have an emblem of membership that shows that the modder is backed by the union, in case of discrepancies and/or loss of intellectual property. This emblem is the symbol that represents a license of creative works, which will be written as soon as the proper wording is agreed upon.

If you are a member of the Modder's Union, please include this symbol somewhere in your signature, post format, or avatar. It can be shrunk to a smaller size and pasted into an existing signature, if that is more convenient.

Admins should use the following symbol:

If you aren't a modder, or haven't yet applied for membership, and still want to support the MU, please use the following badge to do so:

    Member Logo: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15297440/minecraft/MCUnion/mcunion_mu_member_icon.png
    Admin Logo: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15297440/minecraft/MCUnion/mcunion_mu_admin_icon.png
    Supporter Logo: http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/8307/mcunionmuguesticon.png

Be sure to check this page often, as it will frequently update (hopefully)

So what is the Modder's Union?

The Modder's Union (henceforth referred to as the MU) is a group to allow modders to better voice their concerns or suggestions to Notch and Curse on matters regarding changes to either Minecraft itself, or Minecraft Forum. Instead of having to each speak the same opinions separately, we can now collaborate as a group, and speak with a more powerful, united voice. The TAU (Texture Artist's Union) have recently gone through this process and have been able to negotiate with the Admins of the site much faster as a united group.

    How can I join?

Joining the MU is easy. Simply post an aplication in response, and Admins will review it, and state their decision. However, since this is about uniting modders, not excluding them, we won't just be accepting the elite. Every modder is welcome, and we are far more likely to welcome you than reject you. See the application criteria below for more detailed information on how to structure your application.

    Can I become an Admin?

Certainly. Provided you are an established modder. While everyone can become a member, the modders who really know their stuff, and have created not just exceptional, but also popular mods have the opportunity to be an Admin.

What if I'm not a modder?

That's fine. While you aren't exactly a member, you can still support the cause by displaying the MU logo, or linking to this thread, in your signature. It helps to spread the word and to show that we are united.

We are taking donations for our website that will be developed. If you have adfly proceeds, that is fine. If you have anything else, that is also fine. We are needing to pay for hosting services for MinecraftUnion.net, and would really appreciate anything you can spare! We will be sharing this site with the TAU, but, with any luck, both Unions will have separate sections on the site.

General criterion for joining the union:
-You must have created at least one mod. Please include a link to your work in the application comment.
-You must be willing to support the union and join in voting from time to time.
-You must include the Union's Official Seal in your signature.
-You must conform to posting guidelines.
-The work you do has to be original, that is to say that if you are simply compiling mod packs, it doesn't count.
-Mod continuations or expansions are acceptable, since they still require modding skill to create.

    Admin criterion:
-You must be an established modder and be voted in by a majority of the current admins

Anything posted henceforth in this topic not in direct reference to the union or its affiliates will be reported and deleted.

I've just got one word for you:

    NO.

There are literally hundreds of simple packs on this site. Only about 5 of them are actually good. This is not unique. This is not special. This is not good.

I thought this was a joke, but then I looked at the pig, and suddenly saw the whole pack in a new light. This whole pack is ADORABLE! Right now, I'm overlooking the fact that this may well be the easiest kind of pack to do in the world, and downloading it for cute pigs.

4x is not easy to do. If you had ever made any sprite art, you would know that making something look good with a very limited number of pixels is actually incredibly difficult.

Also, did you use the MC Patcher? If not, that might be why some things aren't working correctly.

It's really not that hard to work out that barely anyone will download something without knowing what they're getting.

    Post some pictures.

You must not use Adf.ly on work that is not entirely your own. You must also gain permission from the original author of said work to distribute it at all.

The grass doesn't tile very well, and the glass looks a bit odd (though I'm not sure what you can do about that). Other than that, this seems like a reasonable pack for those with FPS issues.

Contrary to popular belief, drawing a smiley face on something does not make it cute.

In the same way that spending 2 minutes making minor changes to mob textures does not make a texture pack.

I believe this mod is happily compatible with Pchan3's Airship mods.

By the way, going to just run through this sentence, and correct it:

WHERE YOUR PROOF,Need some of it so give some pov, im going bet you have no proof

    Corrected version:

WHERE'S YOUR PROOF? You need some of it, so give me some proof. I'm going bet you have no proof.

    List of errors:
    • Singular "where" used as a plural.
    • Question with no question mark.
    • Capital letter when not at the start of a sentence or referring to a place or name.
    • "Give" used without a subject to which it is directed in a sentence (the "me" I added).
    • "pov" is not a word.
    • "I'm" used without a comma or capital letter.
    • Sentence ended without a full stop or other punctuation mark.

    Put bluntly, you're an idiot.

    Someone please ban him.

posted a message on Mod copyright, valid or not?
    Quote from btwsupporter

But just because the terms of service says it doesn't make it true. Sure, Mojang has created a great game, but they aren't part of the legal system. Well, perhaps they are, but i dont see any flying pigs yet.

Yes, actually, it does. Legally, Mojang own full intellectual rights to their work. In that respect, they have full legal control as to how their work can be used. If they decide that they don't like mods, then all they need to do is alter their ToS, and mods of their work become illegal (however, this is only true of mods that make use of any of Minecraft's source code, it's a tricky one, really. If a mod doesn't use any of Minecraft's source code, then all of the code has been written by the mod author, and thus Mojang has no claim over it. Whether it can be used in conjunction with Minecraft or not is irrelevant, as long as none of the code was written by Mojang).

In simple terms, if you make anything entirely yourself, you have legal rights to determine how it is to be used. If you make something which is derived from something someone else has made, your work must comply with their terms of use first, and your own second.

In that respect, since mods are allowed by Minecraft's terms of use, the mod authors have a legal right to say how they want their work to be use, provided it doesn't infringe Minecraft's ToS.

EDIT: May I say that Copyright is not the same thing as rights. Copyright is a license that you pay for to essentially prove that a work belongs to you. You are unlikely to be able to take out Copyright on a mod, as it is already under a separate Copyright license, and this makes things very awkward if a case goes to court. I doubt very much that any modders have actual Copyright on their mods. However, this does not mean they don't have a right to determine how their work should be used, and it IS possible to win a court case without the help of Copyright, but Copyright does seriously help.
