I'm a fairly active player (weekends more than weekdays but occasionally even then). At 60, I think I may be old enough to qualify! ;) I am very knowledgeable about most aspects of minecraft and know a lot of tricks and secrets (nothing illegal or cheaty, beyond looking up biomes and slime chunks using Amidst if allowed). I really like automated farms and other fun builds - on the last server, I remodeled a village following Rizzial's patterns and it turned out really nice. Also build megavillages for iron farming and super trading. Still learning redstone, but I follow people like Mumbo and Xisumavoid, so a Hermit-like environment sounds like a lot of fun.

    First name: Greg

    Age: 59

Country: USA - Southwestern Indiana, so in Central Time Zone

Do you agree to the servers rules? Yes

Will you play more on weekdays or weekends? Weekends. I work on weekdays but sometimes play on weekday evenings.

Goals for server? One thing I've been wanting to do on the old server I play on is a community build: an Amusement Park with one or more roller coasters.

What do you tend to build? I tend to build a lot underground right now, but I am certainly flexible. Not much interested in 3d minecraft art.

What is your skill in redstone (1-10)? About a 5, but I'm constantly stretching my skills there. I reference a lot of YouTube videos when learning new redstone skills.

What is your skill in building (1-10)? Again, about a 5. I tend to a lot of utilitarian builds in my single player games. I haven't played on very many servers to do many large scale or community builds, but I welcome all challenges.

Anything we should know about you? I'm looking to find a thriving community where I can make new friends and expand my Minecraft skills.

Do you have pictures of your past builds that you are proud of? Don't really have a lot of pictures of my builds, but here are a couple pics of my current base on the server I've been playing on.

Yes - that is a Desert Temple built from packed ice. Not happy with the stained glass for the ankhs on the front, but haven't decided what would look good with the packed ice. My base is inside and below ground.

Another shot of the Ice Temple with the new village I built in front. In retrospect, I should have built the Temple a little further back so it wasn't so close to the village, but we all make mistakes.

Another shot of the village - I built it from scratch using the villager and zombie I got under the igloo.

What community events would you like to see? Not really sure - I like supporting the community and one of my community projects on my last server was something I called the Newby Project: I created several full sets of armor, tools, weapons, and some food, wood and stone to get new players going. Can't really say much about events until I meet the other community members and get a feel for the server.

One other note: I am looking for a new adult server because the one I have been playing on has died. I just spent several hours cleaning out a chicken infestation that some joker put in spawn town to lag and crash the server. I think I have been the only one on the server in the last couple of weeks.

Age: 59 (yes - I am that old and I am a gamer!)
What do you hope for out of this server: Like to be involved in community builds and have a social atmosphere where I can chat with people when the mood strikes.
Your play style: Somewhat casual, but definitely technical (not great with redstone, but quite knowledgeable about the mechanics of the game).
    Your time zone: Central
How often daily/weekly would you play: Depending on my mood, I might play every day or two/three times a week. A lot more if I'm in a build project than just hunting/exploring/farming.
Something interesting about you: Long time gamer and professional game designer (pencil and paper RPGs and tabletop games). Also been playing with home computers pretty much since they first came out (first computer was a TRS-80 Model 1 in 1978 - told you I was that old!)

only think i dont like for the 1.9 update is the golden apple nerf
i dont mind notch apple been nerfed but the normal apple was just fine as it was

According to DocM33's latest snapshot video, Mojang has said they will change the golden apple back to 2 hearts - just didn't get to it for this snapshot. Don't know about the Notch Apple. I thought the nerf was a bit silly - I've rarely seen people use farmed gold for golden apples. By the time you have the resources for a gold farm, you are likely brewing healing potions, which are much more effective for a lot less gold. Indeed - really the only time I see golden apples used is in UHC games and competitions. In survival, though, about the only time I've used them is as emergency healing when going after my first blaze rods. In my opinion, there wasn't enough abuse of the gold farm/golden apple to warrant nerfing them.

First world I tried with the new version was "Twelve". Imagine my surprise when I found I was on a nice Survival Island with a few animals and four trees (3 oak, 1 birch). Also some sugar cane and a couple blocks of exposed iron.

posted a message on new furnace change agree or dislike
This only applies to the piece of ore or whatever is in the process of smelting when the fuel runs out. For example: it takes two saplings to smelt any item. If you put 3 raw fish in a furnace but only 5 saplings, the first two raw fish will smelt completely. The last will only get halfway when the fuel runs out. Under the old system, it just reset and you would have to put 2 more saplings in to cook that last fish. Now, the white arrow (which indicates how far along the smelting process you are will stop and will rewind back at twice the speed it moved forward while there was fuel. If you put more fuel in, the furnace will resume the smelting process from wherever the white arrow is when you add more fuel. They do not mean that any items you smelted will revert back to the unsmelted state (i.e. back to raw fish) - items that are done will remain done and in the outlet slot of the furnace. So no worries - as long as you remain in close enough that the chunk where the furnace is stays loaded, the furnace will cook everything it has fuel for and then stop - just like always.

    Quote from FistfulOfDice

Yeah, but the problems are that:

    1) You can't trade because there are no villagers. The only way to get villagers is to transform zombie villagers, but you can't do that without a potion, and you can't get potions without obsidian.
    2) You can't mine obsidian because there's no diamonds. The only way to get diamonds would be to trade, but see point 1.

Of course you can get potions without obsidian - a brewing stand requires a blaze rod and three cobble. Then, all you need is sugar, a spider eye, a brown mushroom, three glass blocks (for bottle), an apple and eight gold bricks.

Nicely done, train - I've never played skyblock, but I'll have to give this one a try. Your Let's Play is interesting as well - looking forward to more episodes.

As far as villagers in 1.8 are concerned, it isn't going to be as big a problem as you might think - in addition to trading with them to get them in the mood, you can also feed them. If there is a farmer, he will harvest and replant crops and share them with the others to get "in the mood". If not, if you toss food to a villager, he will also get "in the mood". And in 1.8, each villager starts with two trades each, and one of those is almost always player item for emeralds. And since they reset the iron golem and zombie pigment drops back to automatic, iron and gold farming in 1.8 will be the same. One thing that makes it all REAL interesting, though, is the addition of slime blocks! Especially with the changes to slime blocks with sticky pistons in the latest snapshot!

Here's a screenshot of my modified design. So far, I only got two to breed by trading with them, but the farmer is harvesting again. I'll continue to play with this as time permits.

From what I've seen so far, it looks like the willingness to breed comes from having food. If you throw enough bread to a non-farmer, it will become willing to breed (I can't use he/she - these things are apparently hermaphroditic). Unfortunately, according to some sources, there are still a lot of bugs in the system, as villagers stop harvesting, planting and breeding after a while, even when there are plenty of doors still available. I really hope that Mojang hasn't made the system so complicated that it keeps breaking every time they try to fix it.

I am trying a system of putting two rows of dirt down either side of the middle of the aisle, with water blocks every few spaces to keep it hydrated. I also put half slabs over the water so they don't fall in and have to hop out and mash the tilled soil next to the water block. But I haven't gotten any breeding yet (a few love bubbles, but no little villagers), but I only have one farmer, and he has to give the bread to the other two villagers (I spawned in two others before getting a farmer) to get them to breed. This thing may work yet, but might have to get to a certain critical limit before it becomes self sustaining. Of course, I could always jump start it with a few trades, and I'll probably do that next. If I get this to work, I'll post pics.

Well, they've rolled back the iron golem nerf, but not the limitation on villager breeding. But it looks like villagers harvesting and trading food will kick them into breeding mode, so we'll need to add wheat farms to the MegaVillage. We only have three blocks between fences, so it'll be tight. Thoughts, anyone?

posted a message on Chest items in survival mode dissapeared?
I did the same thing - went over to the new snapshot to enchant a few items and when I came back, everything was gone. What I did was I switched to creative and rebuilt my inventory as best I could from memory. I used books to enchant my tools, weapons and armor as close as I could get to what I had. I might have missed something, but I gave myself back most of the really important stuff.

If you don't have cheats on, open to LAN, enable cheats, and then close the LAN. Then you can just toggle creative by typing "/gamemode creative". Go back once you have everything back by typing /gamemode survival"
