Another feature of the original Better Wood mod and its successor BB&I has been added in secret in 1.6.1, and kept since. The different logs use separate image files for the top textures, but because these are identical in the default texture/resource pack, it's unnoticeable. What this means is that you can get the texture files from the archived Better Blocks & Items mod, rename them, and stick them into the jar or a texture/resource pack to replace the textures.
Better Wood in vanilla minecraft, just add textures!

The fence recipe is clever, considering how the fences look like in your inventory: two posts with two thinner beams connecting them, reflected by the two blocks making up each post, and the sticks as the thinner beams. I really like that.
Personally, I'd make one of the recipes use slabs, and since I agree it's more consistent to use the full block for walls to match the other wall recipes, slabs could be used for the trapdoor (should result in 1 trapdoor instead of 2, since it only uses half of the materials used to craft 2 in vanilla). Makes sense that you use the flat slabs to make the even flatter trapdoors too, similar to the slab recipe. Also, the stick in the current recipe doesn't make much sense (to me), and it differentiates from the iron trapdoor recipe in your metal rods mod.

Spruce wood fence? Great! I love it when the different types of wood are used for variations of wood-based blocks ^w^ The connection being only fence instead of that weird half-fence/half-wall looks sweet too.

For BB&I, the activator rail texture has the same amount of redstone as the powered rail texture, so since the powered rail uses 2 RS dust in its alternate recipe, the activator rail's alternate recipe could be standard rail + 2 RS dust (shapeless?).
P.S. Yeah, I was the one who initially presented the alternate rail recipes for detector/powered rails, which you implemented in BB&I. ;P
