If you had even glanced through the thread, instead of skipping over the pages, you will have noticed that we continue to get people ignoring what this thread is about -- their post is usually questioning the discussion, pointing out how interesting the mountains are in their <insert seed here> map, and that we just need to try more seeds until we find an interesting one. They completely ignore the fact that this thread is less about how interesting or random or tall the mountain biomes can be, and more about how dull and repetitive all of the other biomes are. Their continued use of mountain biomes as examples of what is "interesting" about their seeds just reinforces my opinion that something is really wrong with the terrain generator.

And no offense, but calling people "kiddo" can easily be construed as talking down to them, and will result in nothing but more and more forum users responding negatively to your posts.

And yes, I somewhat agree with your point about height variants in other biomes. The funny thing is that all the cool, spectacular landscape has been moved underground. With the addition of mine shafts, strongholds and ravines the creepy narrow caves have new life to them. In fact, I often find several large round rooms that could easily fit a house.

Then how about "hun"? I'm sure that isn't as offensive.

My point in the post above the post were you start with "Mod API kiddos!" is that pistons and redstone could be improved so they are x10 better than they are now, possibly with more functionality.
Or that there are a few blocks that added could open up possibilities to redstone and pistons.

Dynamic redstone + moving blocks more than one block away (with an equal and opposite on/off operation, as it should be.) + pulling more than one block + more

Isn't making something x3 (or more) more revolutionary better than adding something else equally revolutionary (as what was not made better)?
    :Emoticon:

Quite true, hun, and sorry for the 'kiddo' name. It is just my character, which seems to attract some sour attitudes as of late.

Well, calling the person you are talking to "kiddo" is kind of a dumb thing to do. Not reading the thread and therefore not understanding*, what people are having an issue with isnt smart either. If you want your opinion to be respected, that is. But hey, its not my problem when you put yourself in a negative light by saying dumb things. So have fun...
    /discussion with you

*which is evident by this "My latest world has a nice mountain range near the spawn and there are several mountains that dot the landscape around the spawn. I'll admit that I miss seeing those sand mountains but other then that I've had some pretty extraordinary seeds but I've had a few that were a little lack-luster. So try again. You'll get lucky. " Its not about there being "nice mountain ranges" or not. Its about lack of variety in the terrain. Also this wont change with any seed, since the current worldgen is not able to create this variety. Understand now?

It is just my person, hun. If I call you "hun" will it make you feel better? I read the first page but I'll admit reading 17 pages of one-liners and single paragraphs would be quick but dull. You did misread what I said though. Come now, I have been very satisfied with the results of my seeds. I should have specified that mountain ranges are more frequent, at least in my opinion, to make up for the relatively flat land. It still causes the landscape to vary and prevents the entire area from becoming flat. Of course I have had some seeds where they were generally flat centered around a forest and a desert combo. It is just my personal preference. You may not like my personal preference, but I rather enjoy the numerous seeds that I play Minecraft 1.0 on. That's my two cents and before you complain about that again, hun, I would like to remind you that I wanted to post my thoughts on the subject. You're over-analyzing everything I'm saying hun which is where all these sour feelings are coming from.

condescending attitude + lack of understanding of the topic + lack of interest in the topic = negative reaction . If you cant grasp that, well then i cant help you.

Condescending attitude is debatable due in large part to the fact that there is no attitude in what I post, hun. I could be laughing hysterically behind all these words or sobbing my eyes out. Lack of understanding and lack of interest are both false. I had an interest to post my thoughts on the matter. I found that the terrain was not boring at all, and I enjoy it. You gave me a negative reaction just because I disagreed with you. I'm not sure you have ability to grasp human speech, kiddo. I'm not even sure you can grasp the idea of people having a different opinion.

Jeb should also add tables, I get annoyed to hell hearing those pressure plates activate and deactivate all the time while in the village.

Yes! I agree with you again, hun. Furniture would be nice but I'm almost positive I saw a mod for such an idea. Hurry up and add Mod API Jeb. I yearn for the many Minecraft mods.

This will probably be added when they finish the villages, along with blacksmith repair because of those pics in the jar folder(gui>slot).

Which should be around the time that new guy finishes his AI project to make the villages better then their prototypes. Excellent. Not only will villages have a purpose, but we'll have a stat system to boot.

Well I am glad about this. I am interested in learning Java (I am a programmer, but could never wrap
my head around it), so I think I will even make basic mods. But that doesn't mean Mojang should just finish the API and move on. I am sure that the modding API will most frequently be used to add new tools, items, basic blocks, mobs, entities, changes in existing variable/game mechanics and the like (as well as copy-written fan content Mojang would be sued for adding, and unrealistic changes), some things a basic, straightforward and functional enough that it should be added to the core game.
Take the piston mod? Should it have stayed a mod? No. But it loses a lot of use without chaining.
What about launching? That is good that it was left out. I tried the mini-mod that re-added chaining, but unfortunately launching too, and I died several times because I kept getting fall damage from getting thrown so high up.
So, pretty much: if it it realistic, balanced, uniform with Minecraft's style, and has no
unavoidable undesirable inevitable effects, and serves a needed purpose, it should be added.
I feel that if you rely on community content to add things that should be added to the core game, you split a player base that was already spread out due to the level of choice Minecraft gives you. I guess if Mojang had access to the mods, and could clean, optimize, and implement some them into the core game (while not removing why they are awesome), that would sweeten the deal.
Also, mods need the ability to be packaged in a .zip file and be read along with a texture pack.
Minecraft should tell the user if a texture pack includes code changes/mods, and what the mods can do, at the very least giving texture packers to change how textures are loaded/mapped.

Excellent points, hun. You're right about not leaving the Mod API after it is completed. There is still plenty of tweaking and additions that could be added. Hell, there might even be a program where everyone could start modding with no Java-know-how. That would be fun and defiantly cause some variations in the whole Minecraft Community. The only thing that I am currently weighing in my mind, is what other mechanical component is there left to add that is as revolutionary as the Piston or Redstone?

So? how do some hills in the forest biomes make up for the scenic landscapes generated in the old generator?
And before you call people "kiddo"...Your lack of any intelligent contribution to a thread you dont want to read puts whom in the "kiddo" position? (hint: Its you) :wink.gif:

No you are mistaken. My purpose was to contribute my thoughts about this subject, kiddo. Apparently having my own opinion results in some form of backlash. I am also curious to why you have joined a conversation that really wasn't directed at you. Did you feel a sort of urge to fight for the OP's bravado? If so, then that is pathetic.

Whatever happened to wall mountable objects like clocks and plaques for displaying items and weapons on walls? Were they ruled out as a bad idea or were they just forgotten?

The reason I'm asking is so that maybe we can make a list of things and suggest them at Jeb.

You can also ask what happened to the stat system that was originally supposed to be the method of how to spend Exp points. I'm not sure how it happened but enchanting stood in for the stat system.

Sorry, "kiddo", but if you would at least read some of the thread, you would realize the only thing that positively separates itself from the boring terrain are mountain biomes. And even those aren't so special. They lack trees and even they are repetitive. Everywhere else is DULL and every seed looks the same.

Not necessarily. I have often found my "dark wood" forests to contain plenty of hills and cliffs. I have also found several small mountains with loads of trees on them. Oh sure you can complain and all, kiddo, but it won't do anything. My suggestion: Broadcast the message to prioritize Mod API and ask a community modder to create a drastic landscape mod.

Mod API kiddos! As soon as Mojang knocks that out of the box, you can instantly upload any mod your heart desires. Better then Wolves mod offers a wide variety of mechanical parts and I'm sure there are other mods or their will be mods for such dreams.
