There are multiple planning techniques and mods for this (minedraft, graph paper, 3D graph building, etc), but I myself never plan anything I build. I just start building and fix errors along the way.
I actually don't think that PETA is THAT stupid to attack a video game.
They didn't attack Wolfenstein 3D (killing bad nazi dogs :Pig:), they won't attack MC.
They attacked Meat boy...for killing I think one dog...if it wasn't a dog it was a squirrel
Actually, I think they attacked Super Meat Boy simply because the main character is made of meat.
Asking for goals in a sandbox game? I don't even. But for inspiration -
Make a road that's as long as possible.
Create a new testing zone. Mess with redstone, Minecraft algorithms, so on.
Create a mineshaft system where an underground connection of roads covered in tracks connect to caves you've found.
Collect hundreds of eggs, throw them all in a small box, then flood it with lava.
Destroy a snow biome.
Become a farmer, with a windmill, a wheat field, a giant cactus factory, all that.
Spelunk your entire life. Never stick to one place.
Find some dungeons and turn them into mob traps.
Farm tons of gunpowder then make a long trail consisting of TNT.
Make songs.
Make a village in one area, move to another, repeat. Connect your villages with roads.
Cave Story. The amount of people who STILL haven't played it angers me.
I agree 100%. I have the PC and WiiWare version, and both are simply amazing. Couldn't have done more justice with this game.

The Neverhood, all the way.
I've been dying to play this game since I heard about it about 2 years ago. Can't afford to buy it at the time (copies of the game are ridiculously expensive nowadays). I actually heard they were planning on having Dreamworks make an accompanying claymation movie as well. THAT would be stellar, not to mention the possibility of putting the game back on the shelves.
As for my own recommendations, I've got 2.

Goemon's Great Adventures. This is easily the best N64 game ever made, and one of the best platformers I've ever played. Plus, you get to play as a Japanese guy with spikey blue hair who beats people with a pipe. Word.

Amazing point-and-click indie game, with an amazing art style and an adorable story about a robot who risks it all to save his robot lady-friend.
Machinarium <3
Machinarium isn't unknown, it's just that over 90% of the people who own the game pirated it.

They praised Adult Swim for making a game about a polar bear killing people.

Then I build a small part of it and move on to another project.
