Holy Cow! The bloat. The older versions of MC were around 4MB in size. So they took nearly a year to add 3MB of code.
You don't strike me as a very smart man. 3MB of code equals thousands of lines, possibly hundreds of thousands. And not only is that what they added, but they also rewrote the majority of the 4MB they had before, which is thousands of more lines of code. I want you to go write several thousand lines of code that perform advanced light calculations, then get back to me when you finish that part of the update, much less everything else they added. Seriously, don't throw around file sizes thinking it makes you look intelligent when it is blatantly obvious you have no idea what you are talking about.
once you have both the commands in, and the scoreboard is working, how do you turn it off or change it? i went to change "kills" to a different text and it says "an objective with the name "killcount" already exists" so how would i go about changing the text, and also just disabling it all together
As far as I am aware, there is no way to change the text without some very complicated redstone, but if you just wish to disable the display of the score then it's: /scoreboard objectives setdisplay (DisplaySlot)
Without the objective name.
Album Farms? What? You can't put Disks in albums since albums don't exist in Vanilla Minecraft, and you can't farm disks in Survival (Unless you apparently have a creeper spawner with a skeleton spawner near you, but I doubt that's possible to find both of them very close to each other in Vanilla Survival).
Or use a dark room spawner with a mob sorting system, both are easy to create.
You severely misunderstood your friend. He runs the server, and it probably goes offline every time he does because he either turns it off or he turns off his computer, which he is hosting it from. Now, Mojang does not force you to pay for a 24/7 server, all they do is release the server software, what tour friend was talking about is one of two things:
1) Dedicated Server Hosts - These are third-party (meaning not directly affiliated with Mojang) companies that allow you to buy space on their computers and networks for them to run your server on, so it can stay up when your computer is off and so you don't have the load of the server weighing your computer down.
2) Minecraft Realms - This is an optional feature added by Mojang, again for people who cannot host servers themselves for some reason or people who wish to have their servers up when their computers are off. So no, Mojang does not force you to pay for a 24/7 server, circumstances, however, could make that the most viable option.
So, you are not forced to pay for a 24/7 server, if your friend were to leave his computer running with the server up 24/7, then it would be. However, a lot of times doing so can decrease your performance, so he probably turns the server or his computer whenever he logs off.
I'm just gonna point out, the reason that rubies were changed to emeralds is that Dinnerbone is colorblind and had a hard time differentiating emeralds from redstone iirc.
With 14w29c (which still had Advanced OpenGL as well as VBO), I was getting worse frame rates at 16 chunks, no antialiasing, and no texture pack than I was with 1.7.10 at 28 chunks, with a texture pack, and heavy antialiasing. Turning VBO on made it drop further. I had Advanced OpenGL on in both cases though, so... I'm not sure if Advanced OpenGL and VBO were conflicting.
With 14w30c, chunks load really, really fast, even faster than OptiFine does, but unfortunately, a 28 chunk render distance performs about half to two-thirds as well as it does for me in 1.7.10 (Apples to Oranges comparison technically). They removed Advanced OpenGL, which as of 1.7.10 makes a big difference in performance for me, so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it, or if either 1.7.10 or OptiFine are just flat out better for performance. Turning VBO actually helps now rather than hurts, but it still performs worse.
I'll wait until 1.8 since it's been up and down with these snapshots so far, but it's at least nice to see them working on stuff like further render distances and chunk loading speed (this they did a phenomenal job on). It'd be nice to see something like OptiFine's fancy fog used too (and hopefully open the option up to AMD and Intel users). The vanilla style fog seems so bad after using it.
I am just going to point out, that you cannot go to 28 chunks in 1.7.10, the cap is 16. The 30-chunk render distance was added in the newest snapshot, so try turning the render distance down to 16 and then comparing to 1.7.10, as it's not a fair comparison if you more then double the render distance and expect it to perform the same.
I get around 80-100 FPS in 1.7, in the same area in the latest snapshot I am breaking 300 FPS, I dunno, the performance boost seems kinda hit and miss as to who it helps and who it hinders.

How big is your knowledge-base of the game?: Vanilla? Massive. This modpack? Not very large.
Favorite Building Block: In Vanilla it would have to be dark oak wood. Again' don't have too much experience with the modpack so I can't comment on it.
Why Should We Choose You For The Server: I am really good with logical and mechanical functions of most mods and can probably create some interesting machines.
Are You Mature (Be Honest): Well I think I am, that is not to say I don't act childish, but merely that I know when to stop doing so and be serious.
What are your experiences with modded Minecraft?: I have played both FTB and Tekkit before, and a lot of the mods in this pack are updated versions of the mods from them.
Oh No! Someone Has Pranked You. What Do You Do?: Laugh about it, and record a reaction video. Then if it's large ask them to help me clean up.
How Often Would you play on the Server? Extremely often (I have no life).
So if you should be able to do whatever you want in all game modes, why don't they allow command blocks in survival? Why not?
You are misunderstanding our point. It's not that you should be able to fly around spawning in anything you want in Survival. It's that regardless if it's Survival Mode or Creative Mode, it's still a Sandbox game. You make your own fun, that is what a Sandbox game is, and being able to customize your world is part of that. Some people like building and like resource gathering, but they feel it's tedious. So they turn ores up slightly to get more. Some people like resource gathering and think it's too easy, so they turn them down ever so slightly. If some idiot makes his entire world diamonds and this makes the game boring for him, then he can just make a new world and put it back to normal. You seem to assume that every Minecraft player is a half-brained mouth breather in your posts. So please, before you decide to make cognitively deficient posts like this one I quoted, actually READ our arguments properly so that way you know what it is we are trying to say.
I voted in your annoyingly biased poll that really could have just been a yes or no without the added bias on the end. Anyways, it's their world. If I decide I want a world made of diamonds to make the game easier, what's stopping me? If I decide I want to turn cheats on and spawn in diamonds, what's stopping me? If I decide I want to make a creative world and grab diamonds, what's stopping me? Why not remove cheats and creative mode then? Since according to your logic, any freedom in a sandbox game completely ruins it.
