Man I love how everything you build is architecturally sound and proper. It makes it all look like it could be a building in the real world, and not like that "modern minecraft build" crap. It looks like it's ACTUALLY modern, and reasonably so.
I'm going to make a new update really soon, but I need to know something. Would you guys prefer me to just put up actual screenshots or to continue with the "oil painting" thing? I really think people would enjoy actual screenshots, but I don't know. You tell me!
Reply quickly, please, because I want to post the next update soon and i'll need to make a decision. While you're at it, do you want to see Rilend do anything specific? Tell me, and i'll consider it! I'm also thinking of using a texture pack-- yay or nay and any suggestions?
Lastly, does anyone actually look forward to these updates? I love the idea of a journal and stuff and will continue it if no one is really watching, but it'll really encourage me to put out more updates and consider this journal(s?) even more. If you don't find this journal alluring, what can I do to make it better?
Thanks! Just to let you know, my computer is a bit wonky and shuts off randomly when it has too much strain without preparation-- basically, if I randomly disconnect while talking or doing something, don't be surprised.
I literally wasted EIGHT HOURS.. EIGHT!! Trying to find that code in the hope of some reveal or release date or snapshot. I was absolutely perplexed and buzzing all day, that finally, after this seven months of silence, we were actually going to find something out.
But it's Mojang. Why did I expect anything like that?
Some totally irrelevant Steam code that only one person could redeem.
I was 90% ready to quit, but this has pushed me over the edge. Yesterday's events have made me wake up and realise, they will NEVER stop screwing with our expectations. They probably all sit round the table and do it for laughs. For every person angry, they chuckle, and pretend to be apologetic. I have no respect for Mojang anymore. Yesterday's stupid hunt destroyed the last of it, when I realised that there was literally no more other than Steam codes.
I am done until I finally discover through the grapevine that a snapshot is out. Until then, I'm done with Minecraft and Mojang.
You guys I am so disappointed... Searge's code turned out to be nothing more than a Steam redemption code for a game...a code that only ONE PERSON could use! That's right. He created a community wide event, using Minecraft 1.9 screenshots with redacted content and even mentioned a "dark secret", only to have the reward not have nothing to do with 1.9. Not only that, there was no big announcement or reveal, or anything special at all. Talk about no climax.
EDIT: I just wanted to say that I absolutely LOVE the concept of the hunt, but I expect a real reward that will benefit the community as a whole, such as a snapshot, release date, feature confirmation, or even just an announcement of some sort.
Just to let everyone know, that whole hunt was all Searge's thing. Dinnerbone confirmed Mojang had nothing to do with it. I don't know where the reddit post is where he posted that anymore, but I saw it. Blame Searge, not Mojang.
So while looking at all the codery nonsense that Searge is spewing, I saw someone reference an interesting reddit post about "The Mystery of OldRoot" and it was a stirring ARG-mystery thing involved with Minecraft. You can learn the details or join in the de-coding fun here.
I just wanted to see what you forum users thought of all of this-- it's really quite interesting. We're sort of hung up on some coding stuff, so if you have any cipher, coding, or image manipulation experience/software, it'd help us a lot.
Hidden deep in the Roots of an Old Tree; A Mystery awaits, with patterns of Three; He watches from behind, Quiet and Mute; The one with No Face, whom they call Old Root; Let these words Foreshadow of what might be; If you make the decision to Whitelist me; WUDSSHG LQ D SULVRQ RI ZRRG
EDIT: Oops, would this be Minecraft-related? It's more of a mystery-solving thing, but my opinion isn't worth anything. If it is considered that, uhhhh... move this to the appropriate area? Where would that be...?
I'd love to join! I am ALWAYS searching for servers with no inappropriate language, as they are REALLY rare and I would REALLY love to join your server.
My IGN is Piggobrine. (Yes, like a pigman version of Herobrine.)
Make Creepers droops their heads til you look at them, and then have them stare at you when you look at them, just like in early version of Minecraft!
Also, why not make Skeletons+Zombies have interchangable weapons? Skeletons most commonly spawn with a bow but very rarely can spawn with the same weapons zombies can and use the same ability-- that way, everyone is equal!
Also, if the Endermen were aggressive while attacking the Enderdragon, you'd have a horde of Endermen attacking you, which would be ridiculous and wouldn't work.
I really liken a journal to a novel, really. I liken anything to a novel, actually. Just as you would put lots of effort into making a wonderfully descript paragraph after paragraph for your novel, you want to do the same-- but in a manageable-to-read way-- and really grab the attention of the audience, like DirtDog said.
Turn "I found a dungeon! Loot!" into something more like "I turned a corner while caving in the dreary and dread depths of the overworld-- of which I often am scared from my armor-- and low and behold, what lay before me? Why, a group of gnarly skeletons who were just aching to add me to their collection of bones, and they were being spawned from a cage-- in otherwards, I found a dungeon. I opened the chest after taming it and got some pretty sweet loot: ... etc."
Anyway, that's the way to make a journal interesting to others, but you need to keep it interesting to you, which can be really hard. That's why I created my journal system, so I could make multiple journals in case I get bored of another, and then return to it later if I so please. Minecraft can get boring sometimes-- tedious. That's just a fact! So play on Hypixel, Mineplex, whatever you play on, build a fortress with friends, do something outside, take your time and return and maybe you'll have more fun-- that is, if you have "Minecraft-block" like I do, sometimes.
Started the Orc challenge-- an ACTUAL challenge from here and I meant to start it-- and I spawned right by a village... looted it's blacksmith, made a sword, mined some stone, and then used the looted materials+some I got for myself and ravaged the village brutally as a proud orc.
Encountered some nasty monsters that night-- it makes sense. I'm on hard mode!
I did some more slaying of animals and realized there were too many pigs to slay out of the blue so I just let them be-- they're a nuisance, but a resource I can't get rid of yet.
I decided i'd start a settlement on a desert hill across from a savanna hill. Below I was using a shovel looted from the Zombies of the night(I intend on changing zombies' textures and skeletons' textures into humans and Villagers into orcs, so I can make orc-NPCs for my town.)
I went on a quest to find sheep to slay for wool so I could make the beds right away... I couldn't bring myself to ruthlessly murder the bunnies.
Anyway, Here's the orc hut I made out of sandstone looted from the village and acacia wood.
Also, too many pigs to destroy.
FINALLY! Sheep.
Tried to use a creeper to kill a pig. That's what the red-pink blob is.
Aaaaand more sheep.
In all of my years... i've never seen this except for once I think, but it's very vague and I don't remember for sure. This is rare.
Grew an acacia into my home, thought some of it looked good so I kept a portion of it.
Here's the second house I made, hidden into a sand hill.
Inner interior, that is, the bedroom.
Interior main, that is, the living room.
I made a yard for both homes, and a path.
After that I had to make one of three towers, so I went to work...
Aaaaand the finished product(I want to put a better roof on it now.)
You managed to get all that done within a day or two? I've had four years to defeat the Enderdragon and I haven't even done THAT yet, and yet you're already going for it... wow! Nice work!
I'm amazed at what some people can do in this game.
For all of you who really want to see plain beautiful screenshots of the work I am ever so proud of, here. Have a cookie.
EDIT: Durrrr, I meant FANTASY CITY challenge. That must've been confusing. For some reason though I am drawn to it instead of the City Construction Challenge. Oops? I suppose I should switch to the City construction challenge next time.
This is for those fans of my current journal, "Rilend's Rise". This is also to show off to all those people doing the Fantasy City Challenge and be apart of the ensuing harum-scarum. Basically, here are some formal screenshots of my challenge on Rilend's world.
Stage 1: Preparations, by the way. EDIT: Just found out I was doing the wrong challenge-- why is everything so confusing!? Anyway, everything still stands. I fulfilled the requirements for stage one in the city construction challenge and I intend to return to this challenge at a later time, anyway.
Below you will see a current overview of the three homes and even one of the villagers doing parkour. The villagers, by the way, are invulnerable and named. I did this so they'd be more like NPCs instead of things I couldn't possibly hope to protect due to their nature of getting in trouble mixing with the fact zombies can break doors and Iron Golems wander around too much. By the way, did you notice the little tree in town square? (More like town square-circle.)
Anyway, here's the opposite view of my progress.
And here's James' house (To the right in the above picture.)
The main cooking-smelting-crafting room...
Then there is, of course, his bedroom. The floor to all upstairs rooms is upper half-slabs to make the lower room look larger. You can access the upper rooms via ladders and a trap door.
The next picture is a view of the third rooms for James' and Jerry's homes. They're not much of a room as, say, a viewing balcony so one can talk with another from the relative safety of their own home.
The next house's interior we tackle will be Jerry's house. Jerry is a librarian, but doesn't have any books, sadly. Nevertheless, he has a nice home which, fun fact, was the precursor design for all the homes, originally designed in my "Building Pre-meditation" world, which is it's actual name.
Anyway, here is his main utility room, with a two-door entrance to the bedroom just directly there.
Here's Jerry's humble bedroom with ladder access to the balcony, which was shown earlier.
Finally, I get to show you Joe's awkward house, which I sort of dislike. Frankly, it looks sort of nice inside, i'll give it that, but it just doesn't... the top layer of the house sticks out both ways in one direction(facing the road) and not in the other, making it line up with the lower wall which just sort of makes me sad and mad and angry at life and building. Anyway, here's his (pretty nice) utility room.
Sadly, his other two rooms aren't all that great.
Cramped room 01
Cramped room 02.
Yeah, the wall's view from the outside just looks sort of flat, as well. It really needs a window, but the wall splits that in two making it look even more awkward.
Anyway, here's a chest with all the stuff I've gathered... I think that's enough wood-- not even counting the other 19 oak logs and several stacks of cobble in another chest, by the way-- don't you?
Now, what about the wheat farm I needed to complete this stage? Well, look closely in the very first picture and decide between the three farms I have whether I qualify. If not, I just want to make sure you know that behind Jerry's house there is an exactly 5x5 area of wheat fenced in-- the exact requirement! (plus a block.)

I'm a hated dead pig version of a now-too-complex minecraft meme-- need I say more?
