posted a message on NPC Villages
The wiki says they only spawn in flat areas, and plains have always been a bit rare to find in my worlds, so I'm guessing villages are slightly more rare than plains.

Er... I thought they only de-spawn if you LEAVE the chunk.

As long as you're in the same chunk, they should stay there indefinitely.

I want to temporarily change my skin, but I need to save my current one first because I don't seem to have a copy of it already saved.

    How can I do this?

posted a message on It feels like
I have mixed feelings about it.

On the one hand, the new terrain generation is great except for the broken Snow biomes. Vines and all the rest of the new blocks are awesome. The new mobs sound interesting (though, I have yet to see any). The new lighting system looks amazing.

On the other, I was expecting NPCs, a lot more mobs, leveling and some new tools. These were cut for now, for whatever reason. Also, the lighting, while beautiful, has had signifigant impact on performance, when there were no performance issues in the previous version (or any version before 1.8). I had to disable Adv. OGL and Fancy Graphics to get the game to run at a playable speed; and I have a beefy computer built specifically for playing the newest games on the highest settings.

I am not too pleased with how the hunger system is handled. It drains much too slow to be relevant, and there are many more foods in the world, all of which are now stackable, making food pretty much worthless as a survival tool. The only way I can foresee someone dying of hunger in the game, is if they purposely do so.

I do not like how "crits" are handled. Technically, they are NOT critical hits; they are power attacks. You can pull them off effortlessly, and land double-damage every single time. A bit OP against mobs, though it definitely would make PVP combat more interesting.

I also dislike that you can not simply hold mouse 1 to attack/place multiple blocks anymore. I could understand if this was only for weapons, but it affects everything. Let me hold down the mouse while I mine instead of going Diablo on the *****.

posted a message on Does anyone really want black fog on by default?
My friend tells me this fog is a bug.

I have my doubts, but he reads the twitters for all Mojang employees; I do not. Just Word of Notch and the wiki. So there's a chance he's right.

    I love them.

I have been making roads out of gravel since Alpha.

It looks more natural than cobblestone, and makes a satisfying "crunch" when you walk over it.

I would hope that eventually, someone makes a mod or Mojang adds a feature to allow a user to customize his village/stronghold architecture to match their idea of what their world should look like.

posted a message on Will 1.9 snow biomes require a new world to experience them?
I abandon all old worlds when new major updates come out anyway, so I don't care one way or another.

But I can see why this would be something people want to know, and they probably hope it will work without a new world being generated.

posted a message on weird noise...
It's either a new sound for sprinting or a random cave sound.

    Endermen sound like zombies.

I'm guessing it's a sound from sprinting (wind rushing past your ears).

posted a message on Why 1.8 is awesome
I keep seeing people talk about sprinting...

    HOW?

There's no ****ing bind for it in the controls, and the patch notes don't even mention Sprinting.

Also: I don't count hunger as a plus. I didn't particularly care for it before 1.8 came out, and even if I did, the way it's done is lame. Your hunger grows so slowly, and there is so much food in the world (and you can carry food in stacks now) so that it never becomes an issue unless you purposely let it.
