There's so many different versions, I am not sure which one has everything I need.

    I installed the Multi-threaded one since I have a quad-core CPU, but there's no AF/AA options.

Am I to assume that each one is indeed a different version and not simply an add-on for the main mod? How could I get multi-threading AND AF/AA?

posted a message on Sound Mods?
I am looking for sound mods for Minecraft.

I have, so far, Audiomod which is not so much a mod that adds sounds, but an API so other mods can have sounds. I also just found MATmos which made me want to tweak existing sounds and add more.

First and foremost, I am wondering if there is a mod that adds Terraria's tool sounds to Minecraft. The dull "thump thump thump" of mining stone is incredibly bland after the nice metal on rock sounds of mining in Terraria. It would be best if it modified the sounds for each type of tool against each type of block, though I am not entirely sure that could be done through a simple mod.

Secondly, I would just like a simple mod to add footstep sounds to creepers. Everything, even Silverfish, have sounds for walking but Creepers do not. I think I saw something that did this before, but it changed much more than that and I'd like to keep it simple.

This mod also requires Audiomod, Minecraft Forge, TurboModelThingy and Player API to work.

I have Forge and TurboModelThingy and the Player API installed via placing their zips in the ~/,minecraft/mods folder. I do not have the Audiomod; though I figure that is only for the sounds anyway. I don't see how it would affect the textures... But I wouldn't mind installing it if I knew which one to get; it's not listed in the required files in the OP and there seems to be more than 1.

Hm... Ok. I will try installing just the mod without MCPatcher and see if that works.

    Edit: Nope :(

Ok; here's what I am doing.

I installed ModLoader and ModLoaderMP directly to the minecraft.bin, deleting the META-INF folder.

Flan's Mod, and all the other dependencies I put in ~/.minecraft/mods/, unextracted.

The content packs, of which I am only using Simple Parts and Modern Weapons, I put into ~/.minecraft/Flan/, extracting them (since leaving them in a zip made them not work at all).

Ok. I think I figured it out now.

However, the textures for the items do not show up. Instead, everything just looks like various items from the default game. For example, the AK47 and the AK47 ammo appear as leather helmets.

I am having a problem with the Modern Weapons.

When I open the Modern Weapon Box, it's basically just a graphic. I can switch pages, but I can't make any weapons or even move items from the inventory around..

Does no one have an idea on why this is happening? I'd really like to use this mod... D:

You do need to be admin to allow it. There needs to be a line in the MOTD to enable it. Check this post to see how to do it. Keep in mind that I asked this question a while back and it had to do with sk89q's CommandBook, so it might not be the exact answer you need. The info on the original post in the spoiler is correct.

Okay, I get it. I'll have to get an admin to add the cave mapping code. I don't think they would allow the entity markers, though XD

I really do not understand the instructions on how to enable cave mapping in SMP.

Do I need to be an admin to allow it, or what? Could a person fluent in English explain?

verifying from the launcher is way to damn easy to hack. just send someone else your minecraft folder and bam, their premium

You still need legit log in info, though.

I *could* give someone my user name and password and they could play as if they bought the game too; but if I just gave them the files, they would still be prompted to log in and without real login info, they would be stuck on the launcher.

It's not even really authenticating their purchase when you connect to a multiplayer server anyway; the authentication is not down in and of itself, just the ability to connect to multiplayer servers.

Minecraft.Net is having issues right now so no one can connect to "normal" servers, getting a 503 or 502 error associated with it.

It brings up an interesting question: Why must we authenticate TWICE to play on multiplayer servers in no way affiliated with Minecraft.net? If a player can log in through the launcher to verify their purchase, what exactly is going on to make connecting to a multiplayer server impossible while the authentication server is experiencing technical difficulties?

I am not an expert on programming here, so maybe this idea won't work. I DO know enough about programming and several languages to make working applications with a "visual" type studio compiler (EG Microsoft Visual C++) but I have never written networking code before. With this limited knowledge, and knowledge of how running an MC server works, I would expect there to be no need to authenticate a second time to connect to a dedicated server. Unless there is some sort of Master Server List on Minecraft.net's authentication server; but this I somewhat doubt as there is no actual server list a client can fetch.

So why not just drop this portion of the system? Only authenticate from the launcher to verify that the game has been legitimately obtained and not pirated. How a client connects to a server from there on should only be dependent on the client and the server they are connecting to.

posted a message on Mouse sensitivity
    None of these solutions work.

Playing Minecraft, even in a window, is now like playing a poorly optimized console port fullscreen with VSYNC enabled.

Doesn't matter what the in-game sensitivity is, it doesn't matter if I remove acceleration from Windows' mouse settings, nor does the registry tweak to completely disable mouse acceleration in Windows work. The problem is in Minecraft itself. My guess is that they added acceleration/vsync to the game, but didn't make it an option that could be altered by the users.

Edit: I'll have to try the F8 thing. That apparently deals with "Mouse Smoothing" which is what mouse acceleration is.

Edit2: Nope. That just makes it even worse. SO PHYSICS, BRO!

posted a message on XP Orbs DO Lag a Lot
I kept seeing people talking about how the XP orbs were lagging up their game, and didn't see it myself, playing SP.

However, I don't think think it is bogging the system down because of a buttload dropping on a player dying, but the orbs themselves.

I lagged up a bit during a load and didn't pick up a single XP orb; when I looked in it's direction I got a MASSIVE FPS drop. Look away, everything's fine. Seriously, just one XP orb was making my Minecraft go from about 30-40fps to 5.

posted a message on Why are so many people bashing creative?
If you want to play a "hardcore" game, play something other than Minecraft.

I don't think MC will ever be "hard." There was a time when it seemed like difficulty was a priority, but those times are long gone. More people use Minecraft as a creative type game anyway, hence why creative mode was added.

The survival mode is laughable for what it is and what it fails to do. I think calling it adventure mode would be a better moniker because it's pretty clear to me that survival isn't the name of the game anymore. Sure, now there is a hunger system, but it's even more superficial than the hunger system in Fallout: New Vegas. Stacking food and tons of new food items together with a hunger meter that barely depletes even on the hardest difficulty just make adding the system seem pointless.

We all know NPCs are coming, too, as well as experience levels. These are all things typical of adventure/role-playing games.

I am not complaining about this; I actually like that it's going more in that direction. However, there are others that probably don't, and I have a solution that could make everyone happy: Just make a real survival mode so the game has 3 modes: Creative, Survival, Adventure.

    Creative is obvious.

Adventure is Minecraft continuing in the direction it's going ATM.

Survival is Minecraft taking a few steps back, and then going in a different branch of what it's doing now.

In this new Survival mode, Survival difficulty is the priority. Hunger would impact you harder, you would also need to drink water. There would be no XP, no NPCs, fewer passive mobs, fewer mineral resources, more natural hazards, more places of danger (dungeons and the like) and less places of safety. Not only would you need to eat, drink and build shelter to survive against monsters, there could also be a physical condition system for the player. Bones can break, wounds can become infected if not taken care of, limbs could be severed and lost forever... For those who have played Dwarf Fortress' Adventure Mode, you will know how things like this can impact your rate of survival. Fall down a cliff and break a leg and have to survive without being able to walk? That's what I call fun.
