This sort of ties in with another suggestion I have cooking up - where it basically gives players the ability to upload armor files to minecraft.net the same way one would a normal skin. Then, when in a server, the player would take a regular armor item and use it in a new recipe to create what I'm calling "SMP Armor". This would function identically to normal armor, but it would use the custom texture the player uploaded to their minecraft account. In effect, it would give players access to the armor level which could be used for further customization. The best part about that is that it requires minimal changes and most of the framework is already in place. They wouldn't need to alter the models to support extra "clothing" layers.

I like the idea of a new armor that would be custom, but what is "normal armor"? Possibly it could be like the social armors in Terraria? Also, what do you mean by giving players access to the armor level?

I knew that, I was modifying the rare drop. Also, I bumped the post and removed the bit about picking arrows up.

I'd really like to see the return of special skeleton arrows (they once were purple), yet maybe as white as if they were shooting their own bones?

Why not be creative and do something with redstone? EX pressure plates around the town, so when something approaches a house at night, it flickers a ring of Glow stone lamps on top of the church building? I think this would have more potential as a mod. Something like a flare would be cool.

Or it could be placed in a way similar to half blocks, so if you place it on the side of another wood, it is sideways.

Apparently everyone wants a way to disable everything.....

Anyway, I love this idea. Terraria has something similar, and it looks awesome. The fact that every texture in minecraft is similar (and same in other games throughout history) makes it ugly, and, well, repetitive. The only problem I would see with this is now having tons of block types to avoid your entire house changing when you come back after restarting minecraft.

posted a message on In-Game skin changing and custom armor
    Quote from Shogunfish

    Possible problems:

-Skin changing is only available to paid users.
Solution: The button would have to be grayed out for non paid users.

-Because texture packs are usable by non paid users and because some texture packs have armor textures that are important to the theme of the pack, the default armor would still need to be able to be affected by the texture pack.
Solution: There would be a check box in the menu labeled: "use custom armor" If this was checked it would use the armor you uploaded, if not it would use the default armor which could still be changed with a texture pack.

If anyone sees additional problems please let me know. (respectfully)

If they aren't payed, all they can do is play the classic mode. Those both wouldn't work because, if they aren't a payed minecraft user, they cannot play minecraft...

And (back to what you said earlier), if you could change your armor, how would you know that that guy over there wearing leather armor didn't just retexture diamond so you think he is a noob, and then his "leather" armor suddenly is super strong? How would you know what type of armor they are wearing? I think it would be a cool idea, but there are some huge problems you would have to work through first.

that's not what this does. This suggestion adds the ability to modify the right and left arms and legs seperately. It doesn't add a slot for armor or anything like that.

That may definitely be a possibility if it was decided that it should be a different size. I personally think different sizes would probably be easier than a conversion tool, because it could just check the dimensions for which one to apply it as, rather than all the image editing shenanigans. Of course, a tool to update the smaller images to fit into the larger ones would probably still be well received.

(Oh, and just to say it, as i have copyright (it'S a different game than portal, i can copyright these) you are legally not allowed to make your own version)

To restate what you said: Not cool, man.

You cannot copyright an idea that is not yours. You cannot claim lay to anything but your codes and textures. If someone wants to outdo you, they by all means can do so as long as they aren't using your codes or textures without your permission. You (surprisingly) dont know what copyright is. The way you have acted is uncalled for and will just draw my support from you and move it onto someone else. I see where you are feeling emotions toward him suggesting someone else do it, but anger is not the thing to be expressing through force. Once again: Not cool, man, not at all.

Like the idea, but it seems kind of pointless, it doesn't improve gameplay at all.

It's just aesthetics, which to some people, means a lot. Look at the support for Sonic Ether's mod.

So now, our main focus should be gaining support while someone works on the java. There's also a good chance that Mojang would remake it themselves if they did decide they liked it. We just need some way to get either a Mojang developer on the case (Jens?) or get some more community response.
