The first time I saw a Spider Jockey was ages ago, probably about beta 1.5. I remember being super confused and taking a whole bunch of screenshots.

Well, you could try colour block combinations.
I know for a fact adding obsidian makes things spookier. Maybe outline a few constructs like your bridge with obsidian?
Also, you could infuse the obsidian into your buildings too.
Personally, I think obsidian looks best if used in shapes/patterns.
Netherbrick does a little, too, but from the pictures I can't see where netherbrick would fit in.
The red spikes popping up everywhere I personally wouldn't worry about.
If it is the first time you've loaded your server world, then it is the world generating and using some of your CPU, but if it's already been generated, I wouldn't be surprised or worried either.
Modpacks like Mindcrack FTB have over 40 mods, and are heavier than vanilla servers.
Your rig is definitely good enough to run a modded server, but what kind of cooling do you have on it? If it isn't 'good', I wouldn't recommend running it 24/7.
If you want ways to make your server faster, there are a few.
1. While booting, look closely. You should see text pop up somewhere along the edge of your screen saying 'Press <something> to enter BIOS. After you enter BIOS, you can set your processor Gigahertz to a higher speed. This isn't recommended if you don't have very good cooling, and you should consult a tutorial.
2. Delete whatever operating system you have on it and install MineOS. MineOS is an operating system designed especially to run minecraft servers, as they use less than 50 mb of memory (RAM).

You see, the problem is, everyone will think you've gone to Minecon. Because whenever I go on public servers, half the people usually say something like "hey, u went tooo minecon!12!@!?" And I don't know how honest you'd be about that, but most people would probably just say "yes" if they asked.
What's the problem with people thinking you went to Minecon? All you have to do is reply with a simple 'Nope, I bought it'.
Even if he said 'Yes', what's wrong with that? There are plenty of liars on the internet. Saying 'Yes, I went to Minecon' isn't going to kill anyone.The poor kid couldn't go to Minecon, and somehow that's his fault?

I'm VERY excited about the prospect of a new launcher, especially with the FTB modpack. It seems like a much better idea than Tekkit, as it is much less controversial, and attracts less newbs.
