I recently installed an ambient occlusion mod. The mod makes the lighting effects on everything look as if it was real objects and gives it the same look as in the game dot hero's if you know what ambient occlusion is. I had a new idea. When blocks are a distance further away, they should be slightly blurry compared to the closer objects to the player, thus giving an effect of depth perception. Mixed with my ambient occlusion mod, this would look almost as good as a modern day console game. I accept criticism in this thread, just none from someone who has social handicaps, as you will probably turn my thread into a troll thread. In face, I bet the next post will be a troll post based on the community from what I seen(complain about a game in alpha).
Because a lot of people bitched that it was over powered and a lot of people bitched it was under powered, but, the people who bitched more that it was over powered won.
TBH I haven't actually TRIED to kill a Ghast with my bare hands, but considering how quickly a sword kills them I guess it would probably be pretty easy assuming you're in an area where you can get close enough, as opposed to them flying over a huge lava lake.
You missed the part ware I said trees grow in hell. You can easily make and use wooden swords, they are only a little bit weaker then cobble stone swords. As for ghast flying over a lake of lava, you also apparently missed the part ware I talk about bringing a fishing rod. Also, you don't even need a cobble stone sword because you can actually hit the ghast fire balls back at them.
Unless you're happy to be completely without tools, you'll need to go back to the overworld eventually. It's the only real problem I see with this guide.
That said, you can survive in hell without tools without too much difficulty. Might be hard to deal with ghasts with your bare hands once you run out of swords/arrows though! Especially if they spawn near your shelter, meaning that you HAVE to deal with them.
I don't really see why you'd want to spend ALL of your time in the Nether anyway - there's not that much to do there right now - but if you did, this is a pretty good guide.
I'd recommend bringing some cobblestone from the overworld to build your shelter, or even smooth stone, as this will not catch on fire or break as easily as nethercobble.
This only apply's to players who are completely horrible at killing monsters
I found a successful way to settle hell and never have to leave again. Before you settle hell, there are some options things you can bring with you. If you don't think hell is livable without leaving even though I do it myself, then you can be in denial for the rest of your days.
Step 1- Make a portal to hell
Step 2- Gather material for preparation
material list-
- Doesn't last forever, but, there are alternatives in hell after a while
- (There are things you can put in hell to use with this)
- (bring at least 10 chest blocks)
- At least 64 soil
-You need tree saplings
-Fishing rod(helps you kill ghast and you might even be able to get a mackerel from lava lol)
-A few cobble stone picks or a diamond pick(Diamond pick would be perfect)
Step 3- Enter hell and set up a starting camp
If you go to hell to be creative, there is a lot you can do, but, first you need a point of safety, preferably close to the portal you came in at, even though when your done you should never have to use the portal again. You need to get to the side of a giant hell stone mountain or column and dig out a storage, with an optional door. After setting up the storage, storage your items and remember to use flint and steel to make light by digging a random 2 deep hole in the wall and lighting the inside as not to burn anything.
Step 4- Knowing hell works
You can grow trees in hell, which is why I suggested you bring dirt, also, you can use fire on hell stone around the sapling 1 block away in all directions to create enough light without it burning the tree down when the tree grows. There is golden glass like stones around hell, this is what you will use when your flint in steel run out, to create light sources. You can also use lava at the risk of burning things you own, since wood is the only material keeping you from having to go back to natural world. Wood picks mine hell stone almost as fast as diamond picks, so you will be using wood for picks and making chest or doors. There is a stone I call "hell mud". Hell mud slows the traveler walking over it, down. You will need some of this in order to keep pigmen from anally molesting you if you axodently attack one. In hell, lava is infinite just like water lakes in the natural world.
Step 5- ??? profit
You can work hell just like the normal world, except hell is a lot easier to mine and ironically easier to find light and self sustain yourself because the lack of creepers. Unless you go up to pigment and attack, they will be friendly. Ghast are big babies and are easy to kill, but, you shouldn't fight them near your creations, and you can hit their fire balls back at them anyways.
So I recently made a new map in order to start a new with the biomes update, big mistake as I was mobbed by a literal "horde" of skeletons, spiders, and creepers. Zombies were there too but they suck so they don't count. I managed finally to make it to hell. Outside of hell, I managed to build a head quarters floating about a lake, which made it easy to make a boat-o-vator and also is tactical being that monsters move slow in water. Finally I got enough obsidian to make a hell gate(14 obsidian). It was a pain and I died a few times due to creepers, my starting house even got stolen by a skeleton thanks to a pressure plate inside the house that allowed the skeleton to shut the door on himself. I never got that house back because when I came back later a creeper happened to be behind me when I opened the door. When I herd the sssssssss, I backed up into the creeper thinking it was inside, and died, my house was then split, being that I make my houses out of dirt and very small tactically. I start tactical, but, when I get enough resources, I start to build good things.
Anyway, I finally made it into hell with 14 obsidian, flint+steel, a wooden door, a diamond pick, and all my resources I gathered from outside of hell. First thing I did was ran to a gigantic fat mountain of hell stone and dug out my house. I used 4 glass to make the windows, and made a front door, pressure activated from the outside. My first room inside my new location on the side of a giant hell stone column was 5 by 5 and 4 high. I don't need torches because I just dig 2 blocks deep in the wall and make myself a fire in there. Hell is actually easier to colonize then earth.
Cons-
-Ghast will attack you if you walk outside your house and they just "happen" to be there flying around, they will only do minor damages to your house, just don't get hurt yourself.
-Harder to build outside the ground on hard mode
-Abundance of lava(can also be considered a pro)
-Coal and iron must be taken from the regular world in order to craft flint + steel for your infinite long lasting fires.
Pros-
-Hell Stone is very easy to mine and very easy to get lots of, which makes it easy to build any shelter out of it
-Hell Stone catches on fire forever, unless put out, which makes good for replacing torches, even when torches eventually burn out
-Abundance of hell mud(sticky block) which can do good if you don't want someone invading to get around very fast on the outside of your house and also doesn't catch fire
-Almost like the natural world when building (not mining)
-Artificial trees are grow-able in hell
In a nut shell, the way I see it, hell is the better place to colonize and natural world is the place you go to get those "annoying to mine" materials. If your into colonizing only and building, hell is perfect. If your into exploring, hell can be explored, but, would suggest not exploring hell on hard mode.

I'm sure options could be implemented.
