I viewed some of the comparison pictures in this topic, and I thought that there should be more pictures to concentrate on what the old terrain generator once had, other than more varied height.

Perhaps pictures of varied tree density, better biome transitions, and the such to illustrate your point more clearly? Please excuse me for saying this, but it wouldn't hurt to get some pictures of underwater terrain gen and beaches in as well.

Sure, here is one. A long time ago, I was walking through the tundra and stumbled upon an enclosed lake of ice surrounded by a small hill that opened up on two ends of the lake. I even thought it was quite unique back in the day.

Compare this to 2000 blocks of rolling plains that just happened to be covered in snow :dry.gif:

The new Terrain is totally Epic. It looks so awesome, that I often forget to build something or fear to damage the wonderfull Terrain with my Buildings.

Getting that feeling you didn't play in 1.8 and prior, and haven't read through any or all of this thread. The only thing that the new generator has over the old one is larger biomes, rivers, and the new structures/ravines. The old generation could do everything in your screenshots (which are quite beautiful) and more - There would be trees on those mountains, hills in those forests, and real beaches instead of lazy sand circles.

Ah, but it's not entirely based around merely surviving. You're still supposed to be creative, to an extent.

Generally i think the terrain is more interesting and more realistic than it used to be

What exactly is interesting about it? After acquinting oneself with the new terrain features (ravines) and structures, and having visited every biome, there isn't really anything left to discover. The old generator would continuously produce something different, as mountains, hills, cliffs and overhangs existed in every biome, allowing for mountains and cliffs with trees, snowy mountains, desert mountains and the like. Now, this is a forest. This is a pine forest. This is an ocean. This is the desert. This is...

posted a message on Iron is too easy to get in 1.0
Every cave system I've entered post 1.0 has been littered with iron in the walls, ceiling and floor. It doesn't take me more than a few minutes to get a full set of iron, without even mining. I never "mine" for iron any more, I just prance around in the endless cave systems scraping it off the walls. Speaking of endless cave systems, it seems that caves are predominantly colossal now. Most every cave I find covers hundreds of blocks, leaving me no reason to actually mine or search for more caves, unless I'm looking for diamonds.

Back in the days of 1.5, I would find iron every now and then in caves, caves that could have been winding and large, but eventually ended. I loved tip-toeing through them, lighting up every corner and mining all the ores I could find. After I'd lit up the whole cave, I'd have to tunnel in a random direction in hopes to find another one. Now, I find myself in caves systems that go on forever, that break the surface in several places, go as low as layer 12, are cut through by ravines and abandoned mineshafts and there's never an end in sight. I know some people like this, but it just feels like the cave exploration and discovery has lost its spark. I used to be excited when I found a huge cave, or when I found ore in them. Now I can walk into a cave without fear of any monsters because iron armor makes me damned near invulnerable, and walk out with a stack of iron in 10 minutes.

What's this; armour to powerful? You could always, like, not wear it.

I'm afraid I can't help you much more than post things that have already been posted.

    Quote from NienteFantasia

I'm not really into downgrading the game either : Minecraft was as easy as it is now back then, the only difference was the number of hits needed to kill stuff. I recognize the game has been improved with 1.7, 1.8 and 1.9 and I'm not willing to lose all the new features for something as trivial as the damage/armor balance. That's not the problem in the first place, at least for me.

    Quote from Progeusz

Why are you forcing us not to use armor at all if we just want SOME challenge? We were wearing armor before and the game could still prove to be a little tricky at times. Now it's impossible to get yourself in dangerous situation if you have food and leather armor.

    Quote from Piginabag

Some of us complain, in this case, because we see what we consider a significant problem in the state of the CURRENT, UNMODDED game, being played as it was meant to be played; ie, using every tool, armor, enchant, potion, and block available to us.

    Quote from isukun

The problem is that neither analogy is really accurate. You aren't simply playing without pieces in Minecraft, you're avoiding whole gameplay mechanics because the game isn't properly balanced to support them. You have to force yourself to play with different rules altogether. It's not really good game design to force players to avoid game mechanics they might enjoy if the game offered enough challenge to justify using them.

That's why we have always had peaceful mode and why they made a separate creative mode. Survival has always distinguished itself from classic with the combat system (mobs, armor, weapons, health, food, etc). It's always been a major component of the survival game, it wouldn't be "survival" without it.

    Quote from Progeusz

And I think it isn't acceptable, it's the fault of game developers that they can't adjust difficulty properly, not mine, why should I be the one restricting myself = not enjoying the game to its fullest?

    Quote from MisterD70

This is like trying to explain calculus to the group of kids at the Special Olympics, impossible.

If you want to accomplish anything, get a petition together and bring it directly to Jens or Notch via Twitter.

I'm afraid you're right. I don't tweet, so I don't have that option. I think they just need to read this thread. I feel that most of the people supporting the idea are being entirely reasonable and minecrafts staff should consider our position. Adding another difficulty has no downside, though I would simply prefer a rebalance to the current hard mode.

I'll say it again; people who like it easy have 3 modes of it. We who like the challenge have none.

Some people just don't get it.

What we are complaining about: Armor absorbs far too much damage in hard mode.

What we want: Hard mode to be difficult.

I don't want to install mods. I don't want to have to run around naked beating things with sticks. There are plenty of strongly phrased, constructive posts in this thread about mods and self-limitations. If you're going to post here, show these people some respect and read their comments.

By the way, hardcore is the same thing as hard, and is not a fix. Stop saying that it is.

Our proposed changes will not effect you if you don't play on hard. They won't negatively impact ANYONE if they add an actually hard difficulty; theres no logical reason to complain (which of course doesn't won't stop anyone :tongue.gif:) if there is a higher difficulty level available. Nobody loses.

Personally, I don't think we need more difficulty options, we just need to tweak armor values in hard mode, so that its actaully.. gasp.. hard! If it's too hard for you, play on an easier difficulty. Minecrafters who seek the challenge have nowhere to go. I don't tell you to install a mod if you think the game is too hard, but I have to install a mod if the game is too easy?

posted a message on Animal Breeding Is Annoying
    Quote from InwardLawyer29

I have noticed how annoying and pointless animal breeding is. I liked it better when animals spawned and you didn't have to worry about killing animals. I liked in beta where you could just walk around and not worry about animals not respawning. It takes a big aspect out of the game. In my opinion, this needs to be fixed before biomes. It is annoying and it takes a big thing out of the game. I think we can all agree with this. I like a lot of things they added in 1.0 just not the animal breeding.

That aspect being.. waiting for animals to spontaneously appear? Whereas now, we actually have to herd and feed them? What exactly was taken out of the game here?

The game is easy, yes. But if it was raised in difficulty (Even an inch) then just as many people complaining about it being to easy will then start complaining how it is too hard. Some of the people complaining about it being too easy will also be doing this too.

We're not asking for the entire game to become kaizo mario. All we want is a "hard" hard mode. Currently we have 3 levels of easy to pick from.

    Quote from ReKroot

Play some multiplayer. Within 5 minutes in a good PVP server, you get pummeled with showers of splash potions, lava, and tnt, even if you're wearing Diamond armor.

The topic of discussion isn't PvP, the balancing of which is a much more complicated issue. This thread has barely touched PvP and would do well to stay away from it.
The issue many people over and over have brought up is that MONSTERS on hard mode do jack diddly to someone in full iron armor (not even bringing up diamond), and in my opinion the issue is amplified by the fact that it doesn't even take 10 minutes to get a full set of iron. We just want surviving to be a challenge.

    Quote from InwardLawyer29

Everyone is saying the "game is ruined" when it has got better. You guys don't know what fun is.

    Ahahaha, REALLY?

    NOT

The combat isn't meant to be in-depth and revolutionary. The monsters are there to make survival... survival.
