Hey, I've been playing on the server for a couple days now. It's a pretty cool place, but so far the community doesn't seem very active. Perhaps I've just been playing during periods of relative inactivity.
This is Volcanivania, my very first custom map. It was created entirely with World Painter, and custom tree brushes courtesy of lentebriesje.
Ever wondered what a volcanic island would look like a little further away from the equator? This map attempts to capture the idea in Minecraft. The entire island is virgin wilderness with geography varying from kilometers of sandy beaches, scenic forests, a dense swamp, and the rocky slopes of a volcano.
Remember that the custom trees on the map will not regrow. Any saplings planted will regrow as the standard Minecraft trees.

I recently decided to look back into World Painter, because some of the things I've seen people do with it are just incredible. The first time I tired it I was confused and couldn't do much with it. This time around I seem to be getting much better results as a result of my viewing several tutorials and sticking with it for much longer.
Anyway, the point is I think I'm onto something here and I'd like to start posting maps. In all likelihood I'll just try to produce naturalistic maps for playing on Survival Mode. These maps will reflect real places as well as fantasy, and probably have few to no artificial structures.
I'll release my first map in a few days, give or take.
Okay, so the texture didn't take as long as I thought it would. I would consider this a first draft. Here it is. You'll probably need to open it in a program like MS Paint to get a good look at it. It's the standard 16x16 size, so it doesn't show well in browser.
I'd prefer the mod to work with 1.3.2 and the most recent snapshot if possible. I'll have a texture ready sometime tonight. I'm having trouble adding you to Skype though. I put in your name but it doesn't seem to be able to find a user with that name.
I've had this idea for a while, but I lack the skill to execute it. It's a very simple mod, all it adds is three new block types and three new recipes. I'd be much obliged to any modder willing to take on the task.
Blocks
-Sod Bricks-
-Solid Block
-Not affected by fire.
-A little less durable than sandstone.
-Mines fastest with shovels.
-Sod Brick Slab-
-Solid Block
-Not affected by fire.
-A little less durable than sandstone.
-Mines fastest with shovels.
-A half-block like other slabs.
-Sod Brick Stairs-
-Solid Block
-Not affected by fire.
-A little less durable than sandstone.
-Mines fastest with shovels.
-Stairs.
Each of these blocks use the same texture, which I would be more than happy to make for you.
Recipes
-4 Dirt blocks arranged in a 2x2 square yields 4 Sod Bricks.
-3 Sod Bricks in a row yields 6 Sod Brick Slabs.
-6 Sob Bricks arranged in a staircase pattern yields 4 Sod Brick Stairs.
Simple as can be. You get a new building material that makes living in Plains biomes, which are nearly devoid of trees, easier. And, it's based on a real-life material of the same name used by people living on prairies for centuries. Also you get new architectural possibilities.
I recently updated to Java 7 Update 4, and ever since Minecraft has not worked. If I click on the shortcut, it will open the login screen, but if I try to log in and launch the game, it just crashes and puts an error report on my desktop. One of those hs_err_pid##### reports. I haven't installed any mods or anything. I've reinstalled Java and forced-updated Minecraft, but there's been no change. Anyone know what could be wrong?
These ideas hit me and I just wish I was skilled enough in Java to get on them myself. I don't really care if anyone tries these out, I just felt they where too good to keep to myself. No idea if anyone's working on something similar, the internet being a vast and uncharted realm that one person could never hope to search entirely, so I apologize if I'm just repeating old news.
1. Stone to Gravel, and Gravel to Sand.
Simple as it sounds. Put some smooth stone or cobble on the crafting table in the same pattern one would to make a fence or trap door, and you get 6 gravel. I figured since gravel is just crushed up rock, why not? Following that logic, sand is just finely ground gravel, so repeating the pattern in gravel gets you 6 sand. Thus: gravel and sand are no longer limited resources, and now you don't have to wander around for miles to find sand for your windows when you're in a particularly sand-less biome.

2. The TNT Minecart.
Craft a minecart with a block of TNT, just like you would when making a storage minecart but with explosives. You can push it around like any other minecart, but the main difference here is that if it passes over some powered rails set to "on", the TNT will be ignited. The cart continues to roll as normal, but it will soon explode with the same force as normal TNT after the same delay. I figured it would spice up traps, maybe spin up some interesting cannon designs, who knows what else. I'm just kind of throwing logic at the wall here. It's a minecart that blows up, what's not to like?
3. Automatic Block-Placer
Can't think of a better name as of yet. It's a craftable block that works a little like a dispenser. Instead of taking any item, however, it will only accept placable blocks. Upon activation, the first block in it's queue is placed directly in front of the Block-Placer. The Block-Placer will shove any block besides bedrock obstructing the placement of new blocks out of the way, being able to push as many blocks as a piston can to make room. Otherwise it just doesn't work. I'm not totally solid on a crafting recipe, but I figure surrounding a normal piston with iron ingots and cobble might be a start.
= Piston
I thought that one up while trying to figure out a way to create a self-loading TNT cannon. Just stock the Block-Placers with TNT and with a little redstone know-how, you could be demolishing invading armies with the touch of a button.
So yea, those are my ideas. Not sure if I'm breaking any rules here or not, but the sticky threads seemed to say suggestions where cool. Criticism is quite welcome, and don't hesitate to inform me if I made a mistake or if you need clarification.
PS: Yea, I've been gone for a while. But I'm back now.
I'm looking for something to give a little steampunk flare to my worlds, but the mods I've seen on this forum that came up when I searched steampunk mods didn't really feel steampunk at all to me. Does anyone know of a mod with a lot of large gears, clockwork, and things that actually run on steam?
I can't get them to yeild seed unless I use an explosion. This is either a glitch or sheer dumb luck that I haven't yet gotten seeds with my hands or a hoe.
