My friend that runs the server says that the request timed out. My friend from New Zealand says the same thing. Neither of them can ping my IP address either.
Sorry for the delay in response. Any progress so far..?
If not, to help determine whether it's a connection between you and friends, run a speedtest.net ping on a server within close proximity of your friends and yourself. Come back with results here so we can discuss..
Your Computer Specs and Operating System: Several computers involved. Mostly Windows 7 PC
Can you repeat this bug: Yes.
What issues does the bug Cause: Significant amounts of server lag. Causes warning in server log: "Server can't keep up! Did the system time change..."
Specific conditions it occurs in if applicable: Large cactus farm will cause a significant amount of cacti entities on the ground. Once we removed the farm all together and the item entities, there was no more lag, and no more warnings in the server log. The cactus farm is based off of the blocking growth into water. However, the one on our world was significantly larger with several levels going above it. You can see a video that the farm is baseed off of here:
I can upload world with and without cactus farm as evidence to this bug.
New Zealand friend has Windows 7. I have Windows XP. Friend that runs server has 7 also.
I'm guessing her Java's up to date if she can run it on single player.
How do you ping each other?
It has to be port forwarded if I'm able to log on and he's in another state.
To help determine that there is first communication occurring, issue a ping.
To do so;
+ Tell your friend to go to www.whatismyip.com
- Get their IP address from them and write it down
XP
+ Open Start Menu->Click Run->Type "cmd" and press Enter->ping "your friends ip here"
Win7
+ Open Start menu->Type "cmd" in the search bar->Press enter->ping "your friends ip here"
You ought to see:
Reply from IP.HERE.IS.NORMAL: bytes=32 time=something TTL=something
...repeated a few times
Please share the "time" result or any other abnormalities. Then, we can move on.
Hey there. My friend runs this multiplayer server fine and I can connect okay. We both live in the U.S.. He says he's had someone from New Zealand on his server before, and it was a little laggy, but they were okay.
I now have a friend in New Zealand who just bought the game and they can't connect to his server. They get the reading and signal, but then it says Logging In... and the window freezes. Her internet works okay 'cause we can talk on instant messenger and stuff. My friend who runs the server says that he's gotten messages in his server window thing saying stuff like, "Disconnecting /222.152.199.146:57159: Took too long to log in". The New Zealand friend has tried restarting her computer, forcing an update, and taking down her firewalls. She can play Single Player fine.
Any even attempted help would be appreciated. :biggrin.gif:
+ What OS?
+ Check that all versions match up
+ Check that java is up to date
+ Are you able to ping each other? What's the ping?
+ Are you port-forwarding the server?
I have my own server. It is Vanilla and my friend could connect just fine in 1.7. But since 1.8 kicked in, she can't seem to connect in it.
It says: Failed to connect to the server. Connection timed out: connect
My Ports are Fowarded just fine. I even redid it 2 times.
Now, I do believe the problem is on MY end. She can connect to other 1.8 servers just fine. I don't know what to do. I did try to do an entire new server with the new Server client, 2 times. Didn't work at all.
Let's hope you guys can help me.
+ What OS?
+ Check that all versions match, including the server
+ Check Java versions
+ Are you able to ping each other? Is your friend able to ping the server ip?
My suggestion is to use MCEdit to copy the chunks to another place in your world :/
Ahkay, that seems alright. I mean, my world is old so it already has some pretty obnoxious chunks in it. I was curious if that was even possible so I suppose I'll have to learn me some mcedit..
This can't be true (at least, in my case). Like I said, I've been playing since biomes have been introduced.. how long ago..? It's never rained in my area - it always snows.
Quote from "iFanboy" »
You have to move it to a different biome
Yeah but, how..? If you just mean re-building well.. that is an obvious solution but definitely not a convenient or plausible one when you have an essential city you are working with.
ok well, i bought a vanilla master card to buy minecraft and i waited for 1 hour before i used it. and when i tried registering the card to buy minecraft i got a 24 hour card disable. like wtf? help?
Sounds like an issue with the card actually. Try contacting their customer service, usually listed on the reverse side of the card?
My world was originally not a snow world. By this, I mean, when I first made it, there was no snow.
However, now, it is suddenly snowing and it really sucks because my old fountains and pools, etc. are freezing up.
I would much rather it rain in my area. Is there a way I can change this about my world..? Even if it is just around my castle..? Does MCEdit do this..?
I created this world a while back about a little after minecarts were first made. For a while, it was perfectly fine. It was ever since the biomes were introduced and I've just had enough and would like helping seeing if this can be changed.
I read through these posts for a good laugh. While some of you wait for a particular update you could let others know that in no way did you register your real-name (Jeff) as your login name "jeff". How will others in the world know you're telling the truth?
That's a ridiculous point because the first thing people would do to try and seek out information about you would be from you display name. Even if you tell them it isn't your name, they're obviously going to look it up anyway which is the whole point that you seem to be missing.
Looks like only one person used IRC and got a response from Notch.
I do agree that website should be more clear on letting people know their registration name would be = ingame name. That would certainly stem some of the frustration and takes about 10 seconds.
Yes.
It has been almost 7 months now and not a thing has really been done except for that measly irc message.
Notch never checks his emails, you can even take your money back from PayPal and he doesn't notice. Notch has said that their customer support isn't any best (minimal).
It's been 6 months now.. That is quite evident at this point.
Still, one can patiently keep notice of it at least.
You did get a response, and it was even from Notch himself. Just because you don't like the response doesn't mean that you didn't get one. The response was basically saying to keep waiting. Complaining more and more and saying that Notch's answer was
Quote from Onus »
a sorry response and doesn't resolve any issue at all.
Will not help you. Now continue to be patient and wait for this feature to be implemented. The less time you spend poking Notch with a stick and telling him to hurry up, the more time he has to actually do the work.
Again, if you read the thread, I am judging that as a rather simple response in a chat log which I have no source too except for someones quotation. I have not actually seen it sourced directly from Notch himself.
I am not fervently sitting in my chair throbbing for my name to change. Give me a break, there's much better things to do in life than worry about what my name appears as, and trust me, I am worrying about them a lot more. I find it more amusing that some idiot tries ridiculously hard to try and put me in my place when I justifiably say that I am receiving pretty lousy customer service (which we are, undendiably).
After September, I have only sent 2 emails so far and 2 twitter messages. I would say that that is pretty damn modest, reasonable, and patient. Just how long would you wait until you got a little upset? You can go ahead and check the date of the original post. That was a week or so AFTER I sent my initial emails. How confident do you think I am in ever getting this issue resolved? Not. So please stop being a pretentious jackass jumping on a thread trying to be an asshole for no reason.
I don't even think that is considered a response really.. I'm still waiting on a more official one.
You're waiting on a more official response than Notch himself? Good luck with that.
That's the exact ****ing point. Wow. Are people retarded? Can you not read?

Firstly, insulting the customers is only further reinforcing what I said about pathetic excuses for customer service. If a customer is unhappy with a service, calling them "a tantrum" is grossly unprofessional.
You do realize that this is a public forum and is not associated with Notch or Mojang or Minecraft, right? I suppose you'd call Microsoft technical support bad after asking a random person on the street why your computer isn't working?
This isn't customer service, this is random people on the internet who try to solve problems. If you would like official support, you can feel free to contact [email protected], or contact @Notch on twitter.
Firstly, it says right on the very website itself that NOTCH READS THIS FORUM.
Secondly, I initially started the thread just to ask if you can do it. Then I kept on it just as a means to talk about any progress or responses about the issue.
I obviously realize this is not customer service for Mojang Specifications. It's a matter of gathering information from others about any progress about the issue. Not to forget that it says, right on the main website, that Notch does read this forum. (In case you're stupid enough to forget where that is: http://minecraft.net/community.jsp )
Furthermore, if you did read the damn thread you would have seen that I, not only emailed that email (several times), but also twittered him, and sent email to his personal email.
**** sakes, learn to read before lecturing people. Stupid.
EDIT: And as to your point about steam, let me quote, word for word, steam's customer support (emphasis mine):
Quote from Steam Support »
CAN MY NUMERIC STEAMID AND/OR STEAM ACCOUNT NAME BE CHANGED? Your numeric SteamID and Steam Account Name can not be changed. Your Steam Community ID can be changed at any time in your Steam Community settings, under "Edit my SteamID page".
On Steam, you have two names. Account name, and Community ID. Their system is set up to have both. your account name is locked forever, and your display name is not.
So then you understand how easy this could be to change.. If this simple were to be implemented, it would rectify this issue. You're completely right about what you're saying, I mentioned it only as a retort that "most companies do not offer it" which is very wrong.
Minecraft, on the other hand, is not set up with two different names Thus, it is not possible at this time, but may be possible in the future, to change your account name. Now sit down, and be patient.
Now that's fine. I've been patient since August. I think it is a little acceptable to be slightly irritated when people keep harping on ME when I HAVE been patient for MONTHS with NO RESPONSE.

Delete and remove Norton.
Waste of money and only offers a false sense of security.

I simply hope that it changes as "at the moment" implies that it will later.. Reasonable to expect/hope?
