It's depends on the rig and the bandwidth actually so sometimes you may be able to get a good server up and running if you got both of these in high quality. Ahh now this is a CPU http://i.imgur.com/W2nVsSf.png Finally fun at last! Only from an awesome guy's rig! Putting invoices behind bars is also a fantastic advantage when you got someone willing to help you host your server and I really thanks him for doing this for me and our community.

Not bad! Where are you hosting your server from?

Honestly I would look for quality over quantity. Look over at VolumeDrive compared to a host like Staminus. VolumeDrive's 1gbit port will usually only run at 130mbit. Max.

Most of the kiddie hosting companies that don't last long will be reselling servers from a very cheap company. It's astonishing how some companies advertise themselves as a reliable host when they use webs.com to host their website. When I look at a host, I would contact them in a way asking for certain questions (If this is a reputable and safe business, where is the SSL certificate? Why are your server IP's registered under OVH? Why do you have several spelling errors in your contact page?)

I agree with @JvS15NL's post. I also have to add "Check their domain registration date." if you find a host fishy.

Alright. Where do you think I should host first, then slowly upgrade up to a full-on dedicated server? I am thinking about going for VPSDeploy 3GB~ plan then upgrading as it gets bigger.

I am not renting this server, I own it and it is in my posession. BTW I installed a 300 watt power supply with is rated around 200 watts. It runs on 100 watts of power. I don't think the power bill could be that bad @ 100 watts max load.

If colocating in my city wasn't so expensive ($200 for a 2U server, 100mbit and 50GB of bandwidth? Nope!), I would have bought the Dell Poweredge 2950

If you can log into the server with putty, run the command "top". It should spit out the usage of the server.
For the disk usage (In case the hard drive isn't reading the map fast enough
    dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=16k conv=fdatasync

To check the CPU they are using

    cat /proc/cpuinfo

Make sure to post the information in the thread.

The first time they didn't cancel, you should have reported them and did a chargeback. Not only does it tax them ( :D ), it gives their name a bad reputation. Reports can either 1: Make them work towards giving a better service or 2: Close their company.

posted a message on What type of server would I need?
I am starting off a Minecraft server (RPG style, set and defined map that does not generate any chunks) and I need suggestions as to what I should do.

On my main computer (Bulldozer 4170 quad core, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD/2 SATA 7200RPM hard drive backups), I have frequent issues that I need to fine-tune. I have the view-distance set to 6 and I frequent 5-45% CPU usage while building the map with 4 players including me. Sometimes I see my TPS drop from 20 to 17~ but recover itself after awhile. RAM usage is around 600-750MB with 4 players but around 300-400MB without any players on it. The map is a circular map with a diameter of 4000 which is about 350MB~ in size.

Plugins currently (Adding more as we pick up new ideas)

    My question is:
Is it plausible to host this kind of server on an old desktop server with:
    2GB of RAM
    Dual core 1.8GHZ Pentium
    5MBit of upload/16MBit of download
by reformatting the hard drive, installing it with a *Nix distro for minimum RAM usage and dropping it in the basement to run it 24/7?

If not, what type of server specs would I be looking at? Don't throw me MC hosts, they are barely customizable and usually have their I/O rock-bottom.

"cain and abel" is a hacking program, its hacking into places it shouldn't be, and no other program can.
CMD, can be used to change security and get into private files without administration.
Physical hacking is not called assembly it can be used as hacking, not pc's actually...
more of things you arent MEANT to take apart, like xbox's and phones.
They arent meant be taken apart so its known as hacking.

    -Cringe-

Cain and Abel cannot hack into places. It is used to scan and look for things that go through YOUR network. No other program can? Backtrack 5. Wireshark. Fiddler. What else do I have to say?

Did you know CMD requires you have at least root or admin privileges in order to change permissions? Yeah.

Hacking is the act of using exploits to break into something. So if I decide to repair my custom-made PC, it would be hacking? If I decided to clean the dust from my TV, it would be hacking?

Cain and Abel, CMD can hack local pc's (used in school to help my teacher :3)
and physical hacking like taking apart a pc

    Alright let's take this apart...

    Cain and Abel

You do know that Cain and Abel has a notorious reputation because kids on XBL use it to capture IP addresses and boot people? Sure the ARP spoofing and other functions may be useful but the name itself doesn't sound appealing when you ask someone what they use.

    CMD can hack local PC's

Well...if you count using a shutdown command as hacking with CMD, I don't think it counts unless you have metasploit installed.

physical hacking like taking apart a pc

    ...
    That is assembly...not hacking...

    @On topic

I will leave my application here. I have a question for you though.
Q: What will be different about your server? How is it different from other servers? In what way will you change how this server is from other newborn servers?

    Minecraft Name:
    Real Name:Brandon
    Age:14 1/2
    Maturity Level (1-10 1 lowest 10 highest):8
    Position Applying for:Administrator
Have you been moderator/admin before: Yes/No (If applying for moderator):Yes I have been an admin before.
Have you been banned before (If so why): I may have been banned once or twice (Once on reddit because I placed a ton of blocks(?) and once on a different server for trying to help an admin.
Reason why I should pick YOU (paragraph please): I have played and maintained several servers of my own. I know the ins and outs of being an administrator and I know what to do if a situation pops up. I knew how to use plugins (I haven't played in awhile so I may be rusty) and I interact with the community. Usually admins are the ones who build/interact but I am the type who manages/solves problems.

First of all, love your Kyoukai no Kanata avatar :D.
Second, I feel like everyone which is replying either 1: Play's the server, 2: Owns it or 3: Advertises for it. If I were you, I would take a decent chunk of time out of my day to look for a server. A nice relaxed server can mean anything to anyone and your opinion could be different from other people's

posted a message on Question for plugin-makers / people experienced in Java
I am thinking of a big mini-game idea and I have a question for all of you plugin developers!

1: If I were to ask you to make a mini-game that has things like Spells (Look through dev.bukkit for sources), 15 minute auto-restart the minigame, leaderboards and much more, how much would you be looking?

2: With just the things listed in (1), How long would it take you to create this plugin?

3: Would you be interested in a minigame which is teambased, strategic and requires your team cooperate to get your objectives completed?

Sorry if I posted in the wrong section

    @Moderators
I have read the rules and I am not hiring anyone or looking for services, I am asking how much a normal developer would fine for creating a plugin as the one I have mentioned and who would be interested in a game type like this.

I can help out. I have built many servers before and have knowledge on how to protect them and monitor them.

I can SE people or question them to the extent that I can figure out if they are legit players or griefers.

I would love to be a part of your staff.

I hope we can reach a degree of understanding
