posted a message on Biome Update? YEAH!
    Quote from Kholdstare

Meh, i'm not amused. For me, this is pretty much another update that just wastes time until something GOOD happens for the game. The most annoying thing about this for me is that most likely the majority of this update will be wiped out if a terrain update is made; so far from what we've seen the only things that might survive the transition to a new terrain generator are the podzol blocks in the new pine forest biome and possibly the generation for the trees in the new pine forest biome.

Loving your enthusiasm on this one as usual Kholdstare. How about you wait until you've played at least one snapshot for 1.7 before passing judgement. I'm so stumped by your insistence that Minecraft needs a terrain overhaul, and that changing and adding biomes won't accomplish that. What exactly will it take to please you? I know you're not alone with your feelings toward the terrain, but I think you may be in a rapidly dwindling minority once the snapshots start coming out.

Indeed. Western-themed Minecraft towns are now inevitable. I'll be the first to make my ranch. :||||: :||||: :||||: :||||:

    ...

TBH, I hope they manage to re-implement a temperature based biome borders.

A smoother transition between biomes would be very nice, however they manage to implement it. Lets hope that's planned for 1.7.

Hmm, yes western is now definitely a theme that Minecraft can carry, even in vanilla using the default textures. The changes do mean however that old seeds are buggered again, but I tend to try a few at random when making a new world anyway. I think most of the MC vets are used to this by now.

Well, it's not a snapshot, but it's a little taster of what might be; so at least we'll have some more things to pick apart and argue about ;-)

I think we can safely say we're getting some big changes/additions to the terrain and Biomes in 1.7...

    Quote from Mattiasthegood

I want to have a miners update with a new ore like aluminum or copper, silver or bronze. Also a new crystal would be cool like bringing back rubies and an underwater gem like pearls. I thought that this was a pretty cool.

If they were to add more ores there would have to be a use for each of them. I think it was Jeb that stated he's not considering adding any more tiers of tools or weapons. So, that's out the window. Rubies won't be added back in because Dinnferbone is colour-blind, so any further ores are going to have to be erm... purple or orange; Urhhhh!

Anyway, it's difficult to say for sure what the core theme of the update will be, but we're getting changes to biomes, and a lighting fix thus far; also the added bonus of a week longer to look forward to whatever else they manage to add in that time.

Because Jeb has edited at least one biome (the extreme hills) -which can break people's chunk edges, causing annoyance- its likely he'll do much much more terrain tweaking for 1.7 rather than wait a few months and make more people angry

That is a bloody good point. I like your way of thinking. It's all for the greater good...

I dislike how he keeps toying with our anticipation. Don't drop any hints for 1.7 and admit that you got something done. Espescially if the only gift for us on Thursday is a big fat "I didn't say any snapshots were coming today!"

I can't get a fix to the horrible lighting bugs because Dinnerbone spent a few hours allowing the launcher to use past .jars?

    Come on now.

    That's Minecrack for you... ;-)

I'd be pleasantly surprised if the first snapshot for 1.7 comes today, but still hoping it is.

posted a message on Aren't minecraft going to make new weapon materials like an emerald sword? Or a nether brick axe?
I doubt it. Enchanting or Mods, they're your options. Well, I'm not sure what you could be bored of regarding the materials used to craft tools, but maybe a texture resource pack is what you need.

The memory allocation feature of 1.6.2 alone is enough to make me glad to have an updated launcher.

That statement is actually not true.

And when I first replied to this thread, I was never expecting it to turn into a giant argument thread...

Welcome to the Minecraft Forum! Clearly your posts in excess of 3000 have taught you nothing of communicating with the inhabitants of this wretched and despair-inducing website.

Again, we've reached a point where people are discussing Minecraft more than playing it, relying on websites to keep us informed of something we could spend our time testing personally.

Have any of you guys considered that this is just one of many small changes that will shape the difficulty of Minecraft? Some of the zombie features are tied to difficulty, so what's the problem? If the game is too hard for you, you may need to change the difficulty setting to accommodate the higher overall challenge.

The new changes have made the game seem very different all of a sudden, less casual than before. I guess that's the thing though, the game was always casual, even on hard; if anything Mojang are creating a greater variance in difficulty. I imagine the next update will follow on in the same vein. I guess we're just feeling the sting of these rather harsh changes because nothing has been released for a while, and the devs mustn't see the need for change as they could've released 1.6.3 to address any issues.

We're all assuming then that 1.7 is definitely going to be a Biome Update? I'd still like to see a snapshot first.

posted a message on What would you rather play? 1.5.2 or 1.6.2
I'm gonna go for 1.6.2 oddly enough. Despite the few drawbacks/problems, some of the new features do reveal a greater potential for the future of Minecraft.

Exactly. Though sheep do seriously need an upgrade. Now we have hardened clay which looks much nicer than wool if you ask me.

I've often wondered why wool blocks don't have the same texture as the wool on the sheep. I'm not saying I like the wool block texture, but some consistency would be nice, aesthetically speaking.
