posted a message on [1.8] Minimap similiar to Zan's/VoxelMap or Rei's?
    Quote from NBalchemist»
I was taking a break from minecraft, last time I played was sometime during 1.7.something. It's been a while and I have a TERRIBLE habit of getting completely and utterly LOST. When I started playing mc, I used Rei's Minimap, but she stopped updating, so I switched to Zan's Minimap and liked it a lot more. But apparantly they're both done updating?

Can anyone send me in the direction of a decent minimap that lets you set waypoints to avoid getting lost and works with Forge Modloader and Optifine?

Just as Grimallq has stated Voxelmap. It requires LiteLoader which can be found here. The liteloader VoxelMap mod can be found here.

Did some work on my website over the weekend (located here). Would love feedback!
    Note: it's still very incomplete.

Looks good; just bookmarked it. The only thing I don't see on the web page or in the OP is the fact that your XRay mod doesn't break redstone circuits. It should specify that it is safe for redstone circuits since many believe that all XRay mods break these circuits. I just seen a post tonight that stated just that in another similar mod topic. I also would show a screenshot of the different modes. ;)

Thought I'd give an update on my progress today. The going has been a little slow but next to spawn I found some surface copper ore; now all I need is a pickaxe. I'm currently on MC day 8 and have managed to regain the lost XP and get my first hatchet. This world has been stingy on sticks but I managed to get one in the desert from the dry bushes, and 1 from low lying leafs next to the jungle while clearing around a tree to start cocoa farm. I have spent much of my time going to the plains by the desert temple for seeds; think I need to make another hasty shelter over there to maximize seed gathering as I lose too much time running back and forth. I haven't had the courage to enter the temple without proper weapons; don't want to chance losing the temple loot to a creeper. It is a grind and any advice would be appreciated. My plans are to use the remaining life on my hatchet to maybe make a bowl so I can have dandelion salad for an additional food option. Sadly, animals have been scarce except a chicken or too but no eggs to be found.

    I've included a few pictures.

Well I decided to give this another try after I found out I had a bad install the first go around and thought I'd share my experience thus far. This has been kicking my butt and on my third world attempt I thought I'd settle in.

I'm on day 2 at a minus 2 (blasted wood spider with no hit box) and the spawn is in the jungle right besides a desert. There is some coal for later, sugarcane, a Desert Temple, mushrooms, cocoa, and no shortage of lightning fast skeletons with deadly aim. I have started a cane farm and clearing some leaves on a jungle tree to start cocoa. I have string, chocolate bar, and some seeds and ready to start the long grind. By the way, this is my second attempt on this world since a noob mistake; I left some sand close to my cactus wall in my haste to beat sundown and paid very dearly (rushed in to try and save loot rather than wait to sunrise to respawn. The seed is: 8924430453440051524 and I've included a map made with Overviewer and a graphic of my hasty shelter.

Does anyone know the growth rate for cocoa and cane? I've found the chart by Avernite for crops but those two weren't present.

What the hell went wrong idk wether its the java or just the mods acting up anyone have any idea?

    Minecraft Version: 1.7.10
Operating System: Mac OS X (x86_64) version 10.9.5
    Java Version: 1.6.0_65, Apple Inc.

Reading works, as has been stated a stupidly large number of times in the thread: you need at least java 1.7 to run NEI for 1.7.10. Aka: fix one of the bolded items.
    Also: USE SPOILER TAGS, sheesh.

If you don't know how to get your Minecraft to point to another Java install enclosed are the directions in the following spoiler.

The above image shows how to keep the launcher open to copy log when crash reports don't generate and where the Java executable can be pointed to.

From another post by MyanKnight :
Go to your Minecraft launcher and edit your profile and check the executable under Java settings. Locate the javaw.exe file of Java 8 and get the file path. Paste it on the textbox beside the checkbox then save.

    From another post by deomkds:

And for those of you having problems with Java 7 on Mac OS X, here's the solution.

    1. Download Oracle Java 7 (or 8 if you want) from this link. Note that this is the Dev Kit (JDK), not the one you install in your browser (SE).
    2. Open the .dmg after downloading and double-click the package to install.
    3. After finishing, you'll need to find where it was installed.

The default path for version 1.7.0 Update 60 is:

    /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_60.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/java

    4. Now, open the Minecraft Launcher and click the "Edit Profile" button. Make sure the profile where you installed the mods is selected, that's the one you'll want to edit.
    5. At the bottom of the window you'll see a section called "Java Settings (Advanced)". Mark the first checkbox in this section and then type (or paste) the directory where Java 7 is installed.
    6. Save the profile and you're done. It should work now.

    Some notes:
If you install a different version of Java, the directory will change. So, for Java 8, the folder would be called "jdk1.8.0_05.jdk".
This new Java installation will not (or should not) override the original Apple version that is in your system.

    Quote from Farproc
The minecraft.dmg that OSX users use to install minecraft embeds a copy of Java 1.6 in the launcher bundle.

Instead, OSX users that intend to run modded, should download the "other os" minecraft.jar launcher for Linux. This will actually use the registered version of Java.

posted a message on Minecraft Is Too Easy (MITE) Mod
I thought I'd post this and see if anyone has input on this hasty shelter. My start is in the Jungle right by a desert (last world with hasty in Jungle under tree was major mistake). I mined cactus 3 high at bottom to minimize exertion (4 in total) and step into sand for hasty shelter with sandstone roof. It appears to work pretty well and allows for the occasional loot that isn't zombie stolen or destroyed by cactus. I moved about 40 blocks from Jungle (60 from Jungle lake on other side and within 50 or so from spawn). I'm down a life from leaving one sand block to close to cactus and a zombie jumped onto cactus and in lol (teaches me not to look closer). Any advice appreciated since new start. I have cane to start farm, 1 chocolate bar, 1 string, and 16 seeds. I also have a few jungle caves within 65 or so blocks. Seed 8924430453440051524

As I said above since the mod reinstall things have been much better with me getting 1-2 seed drops per 12 grass broken. It was way less prior to reinstall (1 drop every 30 or so). I also now get over 50 FPS and was only getting 16-20 prior.

Is it possible to make the caves dark? It makes it easier to find unexplored caves.

I myself kind of like dark caves as well. Dark caves and torches that show lit caves makes the cave finder dual purpose. You can use it to locate caves (and use full bright to light them up); and use the dark caves showing torches and ambient light from torches to see which caves have been explored or need to be lit for mob grinders.

I read the link he used on the "non-forge" thing, i've created a new profile and did everything the guide told me to but... what do i do next? Where do i put TMI and what not

You were just given 3 different ways above to do it if you'd follow the directions (not being sarcastic here but whatever we type will look just like the above directions). If you aren't comfortable manually inserting mod class files and editing .json files I suggest you use an auto installer (like XRay, MultiMC) or a launcher that helps you such as Magic Launcher ( was a good launcher but doesn't utilize inherits from so not fully compatible with many newer mods. If you use Magic Launcher you just need to click setup lower right, use the drop down to choose 1.8 MC version, use the middle mod section (not external mod) for best results by pointing (add button) to the TMI .zip location. Now just save and log in on the created profile. Magic Launcher is not compatible with LiteLoader at this time.

If it is easier to follow visually for you this is a good video showing the steps for manually inserting TMI.

Edit: I just realized that you are following the directions in the OP (they stop short of showing you opening the TMI zip and the newly created version jar and copying all the contents from the mod zip into the version jar and deleting Meta-inf. The above video shows this process and goes in line with the instructions Joshnoodle gave for the new launcher.

Two ways you can do this:

    1. (The Easy Way): Download a custom launcher that makes installing mods a breeze. MultiMC is a good one I personally use.
    2. (More Difficult Way): Quoted from the wiki, where you were supposed to read.

    Installation for the new launcher

    1. Open the new launcher and make sure the version of Minecraft the mod requires is already installed.
    2. Click "Edit Profile" in the launcher, then open the game directory.
    3. Go into the subfolder "versions".
    4. Rename the folder for the version you require to something else. In this example, rename "1.6.4" to "1.6.4_Modded".
    5. Open the 1.6.4_Modded folder.
    6. Rename "1.6.4.jar" to "1.6.4_Modded.jar".
    7. Rename "1.6.4.json" to "1.6.4_Modded.json".
    8. Open "1.6.4_Modded.json" with a text editor and replace "id":"1.6.4" with "id":"1.6.4_Modded", save the file and close it.
    9. Open the class files from the mod with an archiver such as WinRAR or 7-Zip and copy-paste the files into 1.6.4_Modded.jar. Do not close the archiver yet.
    10. Delete META-INF and close the archiver.
    11. Start the new launcher.
    12. Click "Edit Profile"
    13. In "Use Version", select "1.6.4_Modded".
    14. Click Save Profile.
    15. Login and play as normal.

I used the Xray mod to install Slime Mod, TMI, and Optifine A7 (just drag the mods onto the install jar in proper order). All worked fine for me. If you don't like the XRay with fly mode you can simply unbind the keys; I personally like its coordinates feature. It is here: XRay

I just wanted to report back that some of the issues such as cocoa not being able to be harvested by hand seems to have been a bad install and the drop rates appears to be somewhat higher now. The FPS appears to be alot better as well. These few things have made a world of difference to be perfectly honest. I guess the extreme nature compounded by the unknown install issues is what made any progress next to impossible.

Thank you once again Ouatcheur for taking the time to respond as cordially as you did; I would never had retried the mod again otherwise and found out there actually was an issue with my install.

On my initial spawn in the new install I was buffeted by 4 wood spiders straightaway. Now -2 and have string for fishing rod (once nugget found) and a hasty shelter. Plenty of cocoa and found cane so I have real food now. Some advantages to jungle start even if I'm pushing my luck. So a good start so far but can anyone tell me what sinew is used for? I see the recipe to make it but not one to use it.

How can I get the auto installer?

You just download the correct version from the OP (Page 1; first post). Just click on the jar in your download location to open the installer. At this point you can drag additional mods onto the installer to be installed by XRay.

Your welcome; here is a screenshot of the Xray, cave, redstone, and the coordinates modes. I also included the config texts. These were quickly done on my laptop so they may not be at the highest quality.
