So, does anyone have an opinion on the "Gamergate" controversy? Have you taken a side, or are you keeping out of it? Discuss below!

For some information on the situation, check here.

    ---------------

My opinion is in the spoiler below. Do not read until you have checked the link above and formed your own opinion on the situation.

Personally, I find myself on the side of gamers and developers. The level of corruption within game journalism is astonishing, and the drive for censorship by those on the side of the journalists reminds me of "1984". It's shameful, truly shameful.

Hm... Perhaps I'll make a new topic for some of the stuff I've built...

In the meantime, I'll keep the resource pack as up to date as I can. Here's the 1.8 version.

    Changelog:

    • Paintings! I restored some of the old sacre pieces (stop sign, traffic light, no parking sign), and brought in up-scaled versions of much of the original artwork, rearranging their placement and sizes. I think it came out pretty well.
    • Altered podzol texture; it's the grass texture, with some GIMP color editing. It came out like fresh mulch, which was my intention.
    • Gave the Dark Oak doors the iron door texture; iron doors still have the same texture for now, but I might make them distinguishable later (the door handle color, perhaps?)
    • Redstone Lamp shares the Glowstone texture, and has an 'off' texture as well.
    • Other minor adjustments to textures (it's mostly just me tiling up 4 16-bit textures on one canvas, since I have very little artistic ability)
    Enjoy!

posted a message on What's your favorite Robin Williams film?
I'm ashamed to say I can only recall Good Morning, Vietnam clearly, but I do have to say it was a great film.

What I liked about it... It was funny, really funny, which surprised me considering the setting (and the age of the film), but it was also very serious at times, and very impactful at those points. It flowed well, it was easy to follow, and it could change its tone at the drop of a pin. I really loved it. I think I'll go buy a copy of it if there's a Blu-ray release available.

In semi-related issues, I do recall seeing Bicentennial Man a long time ago; it probably contributed to my fear of androids, so it left quite the mark. You should probably add that one to the list, just in case someone liked that one.

Hey everyone, I have the new city named City of Industry widened but not 100% complete. But the map size I customized is over 100 MB (megabytes)

    Wasn't Newcraft already 100+ MB?

Anyway, can't wait for the DL! I've got a new building almost finished, myself; will be linking on this topic later on. I'll also have an updated Resource Pack once 1.8 comes out. While sacre waits, we might as well keep busy, eh?

Yeah, sacre hasn't updated in quite some time.

But, here's the world, and here's an updated resource pack for 1.7.4:

Following up on my last post, here's an Update for 1.7.4:
    Here's the Mediafire Link.

    Notes:
    - Fixed Dispenser texture.
    - Mojang fixed the door issue with 1.7.4, so, yeah, no more door issue.
    - Added Stained Glass textures. They're just sacre's original glass texture with a bit of color editing in GIMP.
    - Added Anvil textures. Again, it's just sacre's stone texture, slightly modified.
    - Changed the menu backgrounds to the NewCraft dirt texture; it looks pretty good.
    - Altered the arrows on the resource packs; that was just a test on my part. I'll remove them if they're unpopular.

Also, ignore the patcher; It's not required anymore. Hope I could help!

That reminds me of people telling me 'just tell the teacher' if I get bullied. Well that's a good idea on paper but it doesn't work in real life. I have only done it twice. The first time I got in trouble for not letting someone run off with my stuff (I knew that I wouldn't have gotten it back from them if I had gone and told the teacher,) ant the second time nothing was done. And I get in trouble if I do stand up for myself. Typical. They tell me to stand up for myself or 'tell the teacher' and when I do tell them it backfires and/or nothing happens, and I get in trouble if I stand up for myself. School systems are such double binds. Stupid people. Now that is creepy.

"Damned if you do, damned if you don't," as they say. Most of the time, my teachers did help out, but when they didn't, I got around it by telling my parents, who would go to the school and raise hell. They'd go to the administration when it was the teachers who were giving me problems. Hell hath no fury like a parent scorned.

Speaking of school, the Hazmat thing happened in Elementary School about a year after 9/11, which made the whole thing even scarier.

    Quote from crafter200
Each situation needs to be assessed accordingly obviously. If I were peering out my bedroom window and witnessed a mugging, I could easily call the police. I was was held at gun point while witnessing a mugging, the reaction would have to be different. At that point I would probably try to make an appeal to the muggers pathos (although it would likely be ineffective)

I'd probably do the same thing. I'd upvote you, but it seems I've hit my quota. Take this instead:

Seeing people in full Hazmat suits telling me "Everything is okay", "Do not be afraid", etc. That was pretty disconcerting.

    Dear Princess Celestia,
Today I learned that the best way to learn how to use an art program is to use it, that art is really hard regardless of the tools at your disposal, and that I really should just stick to writing if I want to make any headway creatively.
    Sincerely, O4343.

...Is sacre ever gonna update the map?

posted a message on Newcraft/Vecter/Novax City Updated!
Well... since sacre has neither updated the topic or even posted on the forums in a year, I decided to take it upon myself to update his texture pack to a 1.7.2 resource pack, based on the most recent version I had on my laptop.

    Here's the Mediafire link.

I tried my best to get the pack as close to the original as possible.

Notes (I will add to this list as I find more issues):
    - I had to mess with the chest textures slightly to conform with the new chest sizes and the trap chests.
    - I did not alter the colored glass; one part laziness, and one part incompetence with GIMP.
    - I changed the two-way redstone texture to a line of bloodstains, to match with the four-way redstone texture.
    - Added in the dispenser (speaker) texture improperly. Will update later to fix.
    - The door textures look a bit wonky at times; specifically, the door handles are on the wrong side of the door when facing certain directions. I've determined it's a issue with the game, not the textures.

The zip file is the pack; just drop it in the usual spot. I've left the original Readme and pack text files inside as well. I also made a picture for the pack, which the pack did not previously have.

posted a message on Need to get rid of this "Always server" Singleplayer
Actually haven't had the problem with hostile mobs (Don't play survival anymore. Creative's my place) but I have had issues with hitting other mobs. Lag has been a constant on Minecraft for me, despite the power of my PC (It can run Black Mesa on the highest settings, but it can't run Minecraft on anything higher than Short render distance? What?)

But yeah, the server change is a bit annoying. Wish they could have smoothed out multiplayer first before they did the switch.

    Quote from Sefirah

Sorry, but, yes it has everything to do with your PC. On my computer, this mob lag is just not happening. People aren't noticing it because it isn't happening to them. The code is clearly buggy and in need of optimization, but there's nothing actually wrong with the structure. I even loaded up one of my worlds just now and kited a creeper to death with my fists just to make sure of it. So chill out and try to be more constructive about this, please.

So it's okay for the people who don't have good computers (for various reasons) to be left out in the cold because others aren't having the same problem? That's elitist thinking if I ever heard it.

    Quote from Serpentis

Another day, another random complaint thread.

Seriously, instead of cluttering up the boards with the same complaints as a dozen others, download MCNostalgia, revert to 1.2.5 and play that until more updates come out that stabilize things more. That's the official 'cure': to go back to before there was a merge in the coding that happened in 1.3.1. I hate to break it to you, but it will never go back. Ever. This was done on purpose and the game will not be reverting to the old manner of doing things. Some people have had a rougher time with the merge than others, but that's how first steps go until they can be adjusted, updated and outright repaired. Patience, as always, is needed.

It's very simple: the internal server that runs alongside the client in the game is what actually makes the game RUN now. Your client doesn't do all of the world checks any more. The client just shows what is around you, while the internal server runs the world on a different core. Without that internal server, your game doesn't function.

Anyways, if you make a thread and the first thing you do is start screeching about how everything is ruined FOREVER, don't expect anyone to potentially offer any troubleshooting or the like to see if they can help you make it run better.

Why do people seem ruder on this site than the other forum I lurk?

From what it looks like, you’re just patronizing sacre, telling him to shut up and take it. Well, that’d be fine if the game was free, but it’s not, we paid for it, and making a complaint about a product is perfectly fine to do, even if 20 other people do the same thing. The only way issues are resolved is if the people who create a game see that a good piece of their consumer base is talking about the issue.
Sacre never said the game was ruined; just that a problem he was having was ridiculous. And why should he or anyone else having a problem with lag have to download a program off the net just to resolve an issue that should not be present? A third-party program should not have to be a cure for a problem; the developers should resolve issues like this.

In fact, a developer shouldn’t be throwing out updates unless they’re sure an update won’t damage the experience in some way. The single-player servers should not have been implemented until Mojang was sure that it wouldn’t create issues like the ones that have occurred.

And finally, he didn’t say the game was ruined forever, he simply lodged a complaint, and commented on the issue. And what’s with the attitude, man? Some people could use some troubleshooting, but just because they’re “rude” in your opinion doesn’t mean you shouldn’t help them. Help them anyway, and get some Karma points.

    Quote from rodabon

This is a complicated subject. Before you point your finger completely at the minecraft build make sure you've did some legwork yourself to correct the issue. First I recommend a clean install by renaming the .minecraft folder and downloading the latest launcher off of minecraft.net and using it to launch and download the game. Old launchers and install files you've had for a year or more or installs you've modded all to hell in the past have been known to cause issues (and NO, force updating isn't the same thing). After that a few other things to try is to create a batchfile to tell java to launch minecraft with more ram than 1gig (if you have more to devote to it that is). Also try turning down your game settings! It doesn't matter if you've been able to run minecraft on Far and Fancy in the past. This build is a whole different animal and you need to adapt to squeeze out better performance whether you like it or not.

All that being said, yes there are some issues with the build and it creates server like lag in SSP. The server & client have some communication issues that hopefully they can iron out over the next several updates. Additionally if you have an older single core PC or even a first generation dual core your performance will likely be permanently degraded due to the heavier processor load now.

Good suggestions at the top, but you sound like a bit of a snob.

Why should people with older software suffer when their computers could run the old versions just fine? A game you paid for shouldn’t be made unplayable by some update. And on the flip-side, people on older PCs shouldn’t be restricted to a certain version of a game because their experience will suffer with a newer build. Not everyone can afford to keep with the latest in computer technology, and developers need to compensate for those people, especially considering the economy (which is getting better, but that’s a discussion for another forum).
