posted a message on [WIP] Advanced Thaumaturgy - Thaumcraft 4 Addon
This looks fantastic... and I have a list that I already started building of "things i wish I had" before I even found your forum. Bear with me, some of these ideas are in their infancy, but I'll try to elaborate where possible.

    Enchantments:

    Foci:

I love Thaumcraft, I really do, and I really love using my wands to attack, however even with full potency they're not as powerful as a good sword, especially one from say, Tinker's construct. I find them to be only moderately effective against even vanilla monster, so I suggest some attack enhancing enchantments.

Sanctified - Focus deals extra damage vs undead (doesn't stack with crushing or charged)
Crushing - Focus Deals Extra damage vs anthropods (doesn't stack with sanctified or charged)
Charged - Focus deals extra damage vs everything (Doesn't stack with sanctified or crushing)
Implacable - Armor Penetration (armor is only 2/3rds as effective)
Infernal - Lights the target on fire (Doesn't stack with Binding or Weakening)
Binding - Slows the target (Doesn't stack with Infernal or Weakening)
Weakening - causes weakness (Doesn't stack with Infernal or Binding)

Now some of these sound like they should be cores, but honestly I would prefer to have more cores that are useful in more than one specific situation, rather than cores that you use once and then have to switch out for another (if there's lag the delay in switching out cores can be downright deadly)

    now for a non-combat one

Preserving - Silk touch (For excavation and Equal Trade, doesn't stack with treasure)

    Wands:

Now, with the current iteration of thaumcraft we have enchantments for our cores instead of our wands. And hey that's pretty cool, but I feel our wands need cool things too. I'm currently thinking that what would be really cool for them is tinker's construct style construction and enchanting. For the construction of a wand currently you need 3 things, two caps, a core, and some vis (Except for the wooden wand), some caps do need to be activated but we won't worry about that now. I'm thinking you could do your own wand set up which allows you to build custom wands with research that comes after the basic wand cores.

What I'm thinking is a sort of... "Wand Infusion" setup. You take existing wands that are full of Vis, and you fuse them together to create a new core (The caps on the wands are lost), different wand cores when fused create different effects, so like a Blaze wand and an Obsidian wand when combined might create a "Molten Core" which recharges both Ignis and Terra whenever they drop below, say, 5%.

I'm thinking the setup would require wand charging pedestals, several surrounding a "Core Fusing Pedestal" That has a node above it. You place the wands you want to fuse in the charging pedestals (they have to be fully charged as does the node for this to work) then you activate the central pedestal, the pedestals do a reverse charging vfx in which they drain the wands of vis sending it to the central pedestal, as the wands themselves get sucked off one by one infusion style, the node is also drained down to 1 in each of it's primal aspects during this process (non-primal aspects can be used if you have the compound recharge focus placed on the fusion pedestal). The more wands you fuse at once the larger the node you need and the larger the chance of something going horribly wrong (such as the wands all melting to slag, a wand being created but having some horrible sideffect like being unable to heal whilst holding it, or the node is severely damaged such as it becoming pale, fading, or unstable, or the pedestal exploding etc).

You could do something similar with caps, such as combining Thaumium with Copper to create "Thaumic Brass Caps" that give the same bonus as thaumium for everything but perditio and ordo, those two would get a slightly better bonus. Thaumium and Silver could Create "Mythril Caps" which does the same as Thaumic Brass except for the Four Elementals instead. And then you could do Thaumium plus Thaumium to create "Super Dense Thaumic Caps" that gives a moderate bonus to all types.

You could then have infusion recipes that work similar to the way the enchantment ones do, except that these get used on each piece of the wand individually. So like you could infuse say, Diamonds into one of the caps, so it would become a "Diamond Inlaid Thaumium Cap" giving any wand capped with this cap the ability to recharge Terra if it drops below 1% (this would of course stack with any innate recharge ability it has). You could then infuse the same cap over and over, up to say, 5 times (with each time costing more diamonds and having a much higher instability), with each time adding another 1% recharge rate. You could allow people to infuse each cap separately allowing them to mix and mach caps with different abilities infused into them.

Anyway, that's my take on new types of wands and enchanting them.

    Foci:

    Basic Foci:

Wind (air) - Creates a blast of air that knocks back mobs without harming them (useful for getting your golems unstuck)

Shielding (order) - Creates an impervious bubble around you for as long as it's active, however you're reduced to a craw while doing so as the shield can't be moved quickly (useful for if a creeper gets too close, or getting near an enemy with a ranged attack)

Summoning (air + order + earth (iter)) - Summons a Non-Hostile, non-sentient, and uncontrolled mob to you (randomly summons a cow, pig, horse, or chicken).

Levitation (Air + order (motus)) - Slowly moves you upward, does not allow forward, backward, or sideways movement, breaks your fall if used before you hit the ground.

Growing (aqua + terra (victus)) - Works like bonemeal.

Death (Perditio) - Continuous Beam, deals low damage but ignores armor.

    Advanced Foci:

I've been thinking alot about the foci, and I really like most of them, but it seems like the foci we have area really pretty basic, like they're only the first tier of what should be a much larger tree, so I've tried to come up with some that build off of the idea of, well.. building off of previous research (much like the aspects are all built off of the six main aspects in different combinations and layers).

Storm (fire cost + shock cost) - Builds off of Fire and Shock, creates a cone of lightning allowing you to hit multiple mobs at once, however it only works if there are mobs in range so as to preserver Vis.

Blizzard (wind cost + frost cost) - Builds off Frost and Wind, creates a short lived area of effect in which loose creatures and objects are picked up and spun about while being subjected to a hail of ice

Tunneling (fire cost + excavation cost) - Builds off of Fire and Excavation, Allows you to excavate a 3x3 square in front of you, automatically turns sand at the edges to glass and gravel at the edges to stone so that your tunnel won't collapse on itself.

Warding (equal trade cost + shielding cost) - Builds off of Equal Trade and Shielding, turn a single block into a Paving Stone of Warding.

Leveling (equal trade cost + excavation cost) - Builds off Excavation and Equal Trade, flattens the ground around you to be level with the spot you're standing on, raising lower ground and flattening higher ground.

Surface (portable hole cost + summoning cost) - Builds off of Portable Hole and Summoning, takes you to lowest point at which you can see the sky (works underwater as well).

Traveling (summoning cost + levitation cost) - Builds off of Summoning and Levitation - Moves you short distances, much like an ender pearl

Healing (equal trade cost + growing cost) - Builds off of Growing and Equal Trade - Transfers food from your Hunger Bar to your Health instantly, however it will always leave you with at least one bar of food.

Blasting (fire cost + Wind cost) - Builds off of Fire and Wind, right click throws a fireball, shift right click blasts everything around you.

Disintegration (Death Cost + Summoning Cost) - Transforms the enemy into dust, scattering their pieces to the four winds, moderate damage, ignores armor.

Planting (Growing + Equal Trade) - Tills a 3x3 swath of soil and instantly plants any seeds in your inventory in it.

    Master Foci:

Nether (Traveling + Warding cost) - Builds off of Traveling and Warding, Teleports you to the nether, clearing a 3x3x3 area around you and putting you in an obsidian box (in case of teleporting into, say, a lava ocean), if you are in the nether it teleports you to the overworld, same rules apply.

Flame Lash (Blasting + Storm) - Creates rays of fire that attack any enemy nearby (regardless of position relative to you), dealing damage and lighting them on fire.

Bolt (Disintegration + Storm) - Calls down 3 - 5 bolts of lighting, they hit the closest enemies, entities can be hit by multiple bolts if there are no others nearby.

Transmogrification (Disintigration + Healing) - Transforms the subject into a Pig, Cow, Chicken, Horse, or Squid (doesn't work on players, for obvious reasons).

Regenerating (Disintigration + Healing) - Breaks down the target and rebuilds them good as new! (Basically a beam that heals any entity it hits, shift click to use on yourself)

Feeding (Disintegration + Planting) - Turns wheat into bread (at a 1 to 1 ratio), turns Potatoes into Baked Potatoes, and cooks any raw meat you might have.

Entropy (Disintegration + Healing) - an area of effect attack that slows down anything it hits, poisons, and blinds them (basically simulates getting really old really fast!)

Ice Age (Blizzard + Blasting) - Creates an area burst around you that freezes enemies in place and causes a good amount of damage. Turns water to Ice and Lava to Obsidian.

    Expert Foci:

Apocalypse - (Ice Age + Entropy + Flame Lash + Bolt) - Hits all nearby enemies with 2 lightning bolts, the wither effect, poison, slowness, and lights them on fire.

    Artifice Items:

Now, I like to play with lots of mods, in fact I help maintain a mod pack, and I'm sad to say that as fantastic as the Thaumcraft items are they get overshadowed by things like Modular Power Suits and Quantum Armor pretty easily. I mean sure I can strap on a Flight harness and have 30 minutes of creative like flight... Or I could throw on some power armor and have nearly unlimited flight time that goes four or five times as fast with the ability to fly up and down just by looking in those directions on top of 6 armor....... Sure I could wear my goggles of revealing... or I could wear a power armor helmet that gives me night vision, auto-feeds me, gives me a super zoom, lets me breath under water and gives me 6 armor... sure I could wear boots of the traveler... but I can get 6 protection from the power armor boots, not to mention completely negating all fall damage every time.

Now I'm not saying everything should strive to be like power armor, in fact when viewed at with a critical eye power armor is terribly OP, however people are going to use it over the thaumatergical counter parts and that's just sad. I really feel you should be able to go toe to toe with the other players no matter what mod you've decided to focus on, to that end I've come up with some ideas....

    Advanced:

Spellbound Fabric - Enchanted Fabric infused with iron, can be used to make armor in the same fashion as Enchanted Cloth, but is as protective and Durable as Iron. (Makes Spellbound Cowl, Spellbound Robes, Spellbound Leggings, Spellbound boots)

Legging's of the Traveler - Made from Thaumaturge's Leggings infused with Ender Pearls, Water Shards, Potions of Fire Resistance, and Eathereal Blooms, these pants will protect the wearer from fire and (should they be foolish enough to fall in!) Teleport the wearer out of lava onto land, in addition they also mend themselves as needed!

    Master:

Thaumic Cloth - By infusing Spellbound Cloth with Thaumium you have created an even more durable and resiliant fabric, items made from this fabric are as protective and durable as Thaumium, and have even gained the ability to (very) slowly repair themselves over time! (Produces Thaumic Cowl, Thaumic Robes, Thaumic Leggins, and Thaumic Boots, all items made from it start off with the "Repair" enchantment at the first level)

Master's Cowl - By infusing a Spellbound Cowl with Goggles of Revealing and Thaumic Cloth you have created a cowl that not only has the properties of Thaumic Cloth, but also reveals things of a thaumaturgical nature and even lets you see in the dark! (darkvision)

Master's Harness - By infusing a Thaumostatic harness with Thaumic Robes you have increased the durability of the harness by a prodigious amount, in addition this transmutation has made it much lighter, allowing for faster movement and allowing you to cut the fuel cost nearly in half! (Thaumium protectiveness and durability, repair 1, allows 1.5x creative speed, runs for 1 hour on a full jar of potentia)

Master's Leggings - By infusing the Leggings of the Traveler with Thaumic Cloth, Potions of Fire Resistance, Eyes of Ender and Air Shards you've created a pair of pants that are as strong as Thaumium, light as silk and fashionable to boot. These pants will cut all fire damage by three fourths, teleport you out of lava to the nearest solid ground, allow you to jump twice as high, run slightly faster, and have the ability to repair themselves from almost any damage! (Thaumium Protectiveness and Durability, jump 2 blocks (Stacks with other such modifiers), run 1.5x as fast (stacks with other modifiers), teleports you out of lava to solid ground, and comes with Repair 2)

Master's Boots - By infusing Boots fo the Traveler with Thaumic Cloth, Water Shards, Feathers, and Air shards you have increased their innate abilities two fold, doubling their already present abilities, and even adding some new ones! In addition to running faster, jumping higher, and almost never falling to your death, they now give you the power to walk across lava and water, turning lava to obsidian and water to ice as you walk across them! (2x faster than boots of the traveler, 2x higher jump than boots of the traveler, 2x the fall capacity as boots of the traveler, turns water and lava under you into ice and obby)

    Expert:

Node Cloth - Mad they called you! MAD! They said it couldn't be done! They said the advances you'd made in magical cloths had unhinged you! That you'd just kill yourself trying! But they were WRONG! Through the power of persistence and acciden- er... ingenuity..... you have managed to weave the raw power of Pure Nodes into Thaumic Cloth. In order to do so you must infuse the cloth with vast quantities of Auram, Alienis, Tutamen and Ordos, in order to bind Four Pure nodes nodes and six diamond blocks into each piece of cloth, but oh the cost was worth it! You have created a Cloth Stronger than Diamonds, Lighter than Silk, Softer than Down, and as regenerative as the nodes you built it from! (Can be used to make Nodic Cowl, Nodic Robes, Nodic Leggins, and Nodic Boots, each item made with it regenerates twice as fast as if they had the Regeneration 2 Enchantment (stacks with the regeneration enchantment), the items made from this cloth are more protective than diamond)

Cowl of Life - By infusing the Master's Cowl with Shards of all types and Node cloth you have enhanced it's normal abilities and given it new ones that are both fantastic and useful! While wearing this cowl you will eat when you feel hungry, drink when you feel thirst, you will not lack for air, you can see all manner of Thaumatergics, and You can see in even total blackness, it even inherited the regenerative and protective capabilities of the Node Cloth! (Darkvision, Goggles of Seeing abilities, Auto-Feeding, breath underwater. Given the problems with some mods and darkvision I suggest that the user have the ability to turn this off by shift right clicking with the cowl in their hand)

Robes of Transcendence - By infusing a set of Nodic Robes with all types of Shards, and a Master's Harness you've enhanced the powers of the original Harness Two Fold, Your flight is now as graceful as a swan, you can fly twice as fast as you could originally, you no longer can fall to your death, and the harness now only requires one fourth the fuel! In addition the power of the nodes woven into it make it possible to use any type of essentia as it's fuel! (Ability to fly in whatever direction you're looking including up and down, 2 hours of flight time on any type of essentia, no-fall damage, and 2x creative speed)

Leggings of Freedom - By infusing a set of Nodic Leggings with all types of shards and a pair of Master's Leggings you have managed to refine and perfect the enchantments upon them. You know longer take any damage from fire, in addition, you no longer teleport out of lava, but instead move through it as if it wasn't there, the magic of the leggings protecting you from it's blistering heat. You can also jump four times as high as you normally could, and move twice as fast! In addition to this it has also supercharged it's already formidable regenerative capabilities! (Swim in lava at water speed, jump 4 blocks (Stacks with other modifiers), run twice as fast (stacks with other modifiers), Fire Immunity, twice the repair power of Master's Leggings (stacks with other modifiers)).

Boots of Striding - By infusing Nodic Boots with Shards of every type and a pair of Master's Boots, you have supercharged the original enchantments, along with adding a few more! These boots are Three times as powerful as boots of the traveler in all ways, they turn lava and water in a 5x5 area around you into obsidian and ice, and they repair themselves instantly as they're being damaged. In addition you can't fall to your death in these boots as the fall occurs slowly and the boots give you some purchase on the air itself, allowing you to walk at normal speeds whilst falling at up to 1/8th the normal rate! (3x speed and jump boost of the boots of the traveler (stacks with other modifiers), Slow Fall (slows your fall by 1/8th the normal speed, holding Shift while falling stops this), same abilities as the Nodic Boots, turns Water and Lava to Ice and Obby in a 5x5 square around you.)

    Golems (Last one I swear!):

    Types:

Cloth Golem - Slightly better stats than the Straw, can hold two upgrades (Made from, wait for it.... enchanted cloth (betcha thought I was just gonna say "cloth").

Arcane Golem - What's better than a Stone Golem? Why, a stone golem made out fo Arcane Stone of course! (Has slightly better stats than the Stone Golem, and can hold 2 upgrades)

Diamond Golem - Lighter than Iron, Stronger than Thaumium, Hard as.... well... Diamond. Now if only diamonds could grow back.... (Durability: Extremely High, Strength Very high, Self Repair: Very Slow, Carry Limit: 64, Speed: Above Average, Upgrades: 3)

Nodic Golem - What's Stronger than Diamonds lighter than Straw, and can repair itself stupid fast? Why Nodic Cloth! You were already mad enough to try making it in the first place! So you might as well go whole hog and create little semi-intelligent, nigh-indestructible minions out of it as well... after all, what's the worst that could happen? (Durability: Highest, Strength: Highest, Self Repair: Fastest, Speed: Fastest, Carry Limit 128, Upgrades: 4)

    Cores:

Thaumaturge - What happens when you give a guardian golem a wand and a foci? Not much.. or rather a lot.. usually it explodes, or blows it's legs off, once you even saw one turn itself into a rabbit (you've still yet to replicate the feat), however none of that is useful, unless you want to create little kamikaze golems that do to creepers what creepers do you you (You might want to write that down for later). So you had to make something a little more specific. Introducing the Thaumaturge Core! Give this golem a wand and a Focus and it will use the wand on any appropriate surface or creature that is not you! Give it a Focus of shock and watch it zap zombies! A Focus of Fire and watch it cook pork! Or a Focus of excavation and watch it carve out a nice square room! Though it doesn't seem smart enough to recharge the wand.....
(Works like a combination of the harvester/guardian core depending on what type of Focus it's given. Ordo upgrades give it the ability to recharge a wand from a node within it's range (or nodes if there's more than one), Perditio Upgrade stops it from draining a node past 1, and ignis upgrades lets you designate more material types to excavate or specific monsters to attack. (For instance give it a Regenerating Foci and tell it to regenerate other golems, so your fighting golems can repair faster!).

Crafting - Golems are really good at following very simple instructions, but bad at complex instructions. But what if you gave them just one very specific set of complex instructions? You tried it! And guess what! As long as it's not doing anything else it can follow that one instruction over and over and over again...... Well.. usually.... (Gives it a crafting grid that you set the recipe in, you then attach it to an Arcane Worktable (as those keep hold of the items) and mark a chest for it to take items from, it'll fill the table first, and then make them in lots of the amount it can carry (max 64), and once in a while it'll derp out and get stuck just like the rest of the golems (remember, if you can't fix it say it's a feature). Max carry size also determines the maximum number of ingredients it can remember.)

    Lost Research:

Tiny Harness: You're thaumostatic harness is fantastic, you love it, it lets you reach all sorts of hard to get to places, not to mention bypassing so many obstacles that you can't just jump over. However you never did figure out how to make it smaller without also making it ineffective. Fortunately someone else did, and you found a part of their research and now you're claiming it as your own (don't feel bad, that just means you're like 90% of the other people in the world who take credit for other people's work). This tiny harness gives your golems limited powers of flight! Unfortunate it can't be placed on anything that's heavier than Wood, unless of course it's moving fast enough for inertia to do most of the work.....
(gives the golem the ability to fly short distances at regular speeds, anything heavier than wooden needs to have 2 speed upgrades to use it)

Alright, I'm done, I swear... for now.... probably.

Anyway, those are just some ideas I had and you seemed open to ideas so I thought I'd throw them out there and see what you thought. You can take them or leave them (And I know that Vazkii has been hanging around here too, and they have my permission to use anything they see here or think of based on something here as well!)

    Quote from chylex

You don't need a specific sword, the egg will drop with anything you can block with (to keep compatibility with mods which add swords). If you place the egg, it shouldn't teleport - if it does, it's a bug. Placing blocks nearby will make it teleport though, I will try to come up with a better solution to that in one of the upcoming versions. I'm not a huge fan of too specific configuration as long as it's not something gamebreaking.

Turns out the egg teleports whenever the chunk gets reloaded. So if the player moves far enough away and then comes back the chunk loads up and the egg moves, most times it appears to also disappear as well.

edit: after some testing the egg doesn't appear to drop at all when approached with a blocking sword (though it does disappear). It also teleports if you stand too close to it for more than a few seconds.

Alright, so, we installed this mod in our modpack today, and we're really enjoying it, however we have a small problem with the changes to the Dragon Egg. Along with your mod we have several mods that use the Dragon Egg for specific things, like the Dragon Egg Energy Siphon from Gregtech, and the Ender Bees from Forestry, both of which require a constant Dragon Egg presence.

Two things that your mod does is make the egg move on it's own, and make it impossible to pick up the normal way (as I understand it you need a sword that killed the Dragon to do so). This makes it difficult to keep and use, and to further compound the problem we sell the eggs as a donator item, which means that we can't have them flying off in all directions.

Now that I've explained all this. I was wondering if maybe an option could be added to the config to turn off the new Egg behavior? This would allow us to disable it for our world specifically which would be much easier to deal with in light of the specific purposes we're putting the egg to.

Turns out that was not the only problem, why I didn't think of running it through firefox first thing I'll never know, apparently I was having a massive brain fart. However I've now found and fixed all the errors, thank freaking heavens. Here's the code if anyone else wants to use it. It includes recipes for Thaumcraft, Biomes o' Plenty (the red rock ones are all to do with gregtech), and a couple of changes to vanilla and applied energistics (wheat will now produce AE flour which can be baked into bread, and clay will now produce 4 clay balls with a chance of clay dust instead).

ah, fantastic, thank you. It wasn't spitting out any error, it just wasn't working, I'll make the change and test it immediately! Thank you so much!

Okay, so, I went to edit the SAG Mill recipes because I wanted to be able to use ores from Nether Ores with the SAG mill (along with a few other things, like the native clusters from Thaumcraft and such) however after plugging all the code in and popping it in the EnderIO config folder it doesn't seem to do anything. Obviously I've done something wrong, as no one else seems to be having this particular problem. So if anyone who actually knows what they're doing could take a look at it for me that would be really helpful as I'm currently at a loss as to what the problem is. (if we can get it working and anyone wants to use any of this feel free, though bear in mind it does have some outputs related to gregtech and IC2).

    Adding new Recipes:
For details of how to add a new recipe please see the documentation at the top of SAGMillRecipes_Core.xml.

    Removing Recipes:
To disable all recipes within a group, in this example Forestry, include the following in this file:

    <recipeGroup name="Forestry" enabled="false"/>

To disable individual recipes, simply provide an invalid recipe for them:

    <recipeGroup name="Applied Energistics">
      <recipe name="CertusQuartzOre"/>
    </recipeGroup>

To change an existing recipe, just add the recipe to this file using the same recipe group and recipe name as
    found in the core file.

It's not so much "Add more iron!" to make a better photovoltaic panel, as "use more expensive materials!". Like the Conduits. We have the Regular, Advanced and Ender. Each of which uses a different alloy, each is more expensive than the last. Why couldn't we do something similar here?

    Quote from VapourDrive

If it would have a lava input, it would most likely be able to be pumped in (makes sense), this would not be considered in itself OP (i personally prefer unbalanced), but it would make Ender IO feel like it is trying to "one-up" other mods. "I can do all of your functionality in one single machine". I guess it could work (in a balanced manner) but would have to be slow enough that people would still want to hook up a set of magmatic engines (if TE3 still has them...?). As for more powerful photovoltaic panels: find ways to set them up in large builds... that's how solar power works. Being free energy, it should not be super convenient.

the stirling engine only puts out 1 MJ per tic regardless of fuel used. A tank for lava would just be a convenient way of getting lava into it rather than placing a single bucket in, then taking it out, then putting it in, etc. As each bucket of lava lasts for 20000 ticks (totaling 20000 MJs) it seems like it's just a logical extension of what we can already do. As for real world solar panels, yes one way is to put up more of them, however there are varying qualities. Cheaper ones produce less electricity than the more expensive ones, and someone recently invented an "artificial leaf" (a chemical based solar cell) that's far more efficient than any of the ones we use. Point in case you can make a solar cell out of a piece of copper and some common house hold materials, it's just horribly inefficient, so much so that it barely registers as putting out any electricity at all, you'd need one the size of a football field to power a dryer.

Something I thought of earlier when using the Stirling Generator, is that it would be nice if it had a liquid tank for Lava, since you can run it off of lava but it has to be put in one bucket at a time which is a horrible pain. Other thoughts, I'd love to see more powerful versions of the Photovoltaic Panels. Other than that I love the mod and keep up the good work.
