I would have asked for craftable redstone ore, but solid redstone blocks sound pretty sweet. A thousand times yes to torches on fences. Only thing I'm not really sure about is the flint; yes I would like an easier and less tedious way to obtain it, but that seems a bit too easy.

I agree that it is perhaps a little to easy, but I can't think of any other alternative. Besides, I would prefer flint to be even too easy over extremely tedious to get any day. Also, my idea would allow people to be able to pick up gravel without it turning to flint which would also be quite convenient.

If you have any alternative ideas, by all means, post them. :smile.gif:

These are just several changes that I really think should be done to Minecraft. Most of them are just simple Ideas to make a few things less monotonous, or solutions to other small problems that irk me.

Saplings should be able to be crafted into sticks 1 for 1:
A problem with saplings is that when you are farming wood, there is always a large surplus of useless saplings that are not needed for replanting. This would give them a use instead of forcing you to throw them away or waste inventory/storage space for them.

4 Sand blocks craft into at least 2 or 3 sandstone instead of 1:
While I think sandstone is an excellent idea, getting it in large enough amounts to build a nice castle or fortress is ridiculous. My forts and citadels already large chest full of stone/cobblestone or more to make. Gathering 4+ large chests of sand for a building is just absurd. It would make more sense for 4 sand to craft into 2-3 sandstone.

9 Redstone dust should able to be crafted into a pure redstone blocks like the metals, Lapis lazuli, and diamond:
While this obviously wouldn't have that much of an effect on the game-play, it only makes sense. More importantly, it would make the large amounts of mined redstone easier to store, and it would be nice for decoration. Maybe it could have a practical use to, but I haven't thought about that.

It shouldn't take so long to get flint from gravel:
Because of the 10% drop rate of flint, getting it from gravel in a particularly useful amount is slow and monotonous. The solution that I propose is this: If you destroy gravel with your fists or while holding a block or non-tool item, you get flint. If you destroy it with ANY tool you get a gravel block. This way, getting flint would not be so slow and people would be able to chose which material they wanted to pick up.

My only concern is that perhaps this will make it a little to easy to get. Then again, I would rather flint be easy to get than have to continuously punch gravel or dig though large stacks of gravel for vast stretches of time to get a stack of it...

Torches should be able to be placed on top of fence posts and fence gates should be added:
Currently to light areas around a fence possible you either have to stack blocks in between fence posts every once and a while to place torches on or placing torches on the ground. This and having to use doors with fences makes them look awkward. With the ability to place torches on top of fence posts and having fence gates, fences would be able to look more "natural."

I know some of these ideas are not original. I have already seen the fence gates idea and saplings to sticks idea before in different posts. I originally saw the saplings to sticks idea in GreyAcumen's 2x2 crafting grid posts and the fence gate idea in Farmcraft. I just wanted to bring them up so I could provide my own explanation as to why I think they are necessary.

I would like to see peoples opinions on these ideas. Does anyone have a better idea as to how to get flint in a less monotonous way? Do you think adding these would be beneficial to the game?

posted a message on [ITEM] Carpet
I've been thinking about how carpet should be added into the game, and this is exactly what I had in mind. I really hope this idea gets implemented into the game. With carpet and dyes the interior of structures would be so much more customizable. And it would be nice to finally have something to use my mass amounts of cloth on other than a few paintings.

posted a message on Brown & Bloom Texture Pack (1.2.2 compatible)
Excellent texture pack, It is one of my favorites at the moment.

    I have a few suggestions/criticisms.

The stone is a rather plain, perhaps make it look a little more interesting by adding subtle cracks. The plain look just makes it a little less fun to use as a building material.

It is hard to differentiate between a stone and iron pick.

It can be hard to differentiate between stone and cobblestone in the inventory.

With there being a health bar instead of the hearts it is difficult to tell exactly how much food is needed to reach full health.

Anyway, keep up the good work. :biggrin.gif:

    A) The inventory screen doesn't really have room for an extra row added to the inventory
:cool.gif: You can't actually carry as much as with my method
    C) That really works more as a backpack, which the player already apparently has, seeing as that's likely how he's carrying the inventory to begin with
    D) if it's worn, does it have a chance to break, and if so, what happens to your items when it's gone from its slot?
    E) If it's crafted on the 3x3 crafting grid, then it wouldn't really have any business being in the 2x2 crafting grid thread, would it?
    F) Your suggestion is actually what Glyph255 originally suggested and I brought up these same issues with that.

A: I'm sure something could be done. I think room could easily be made for another row. Things could perhaps be reorganized or the size of the menu itself could be altered.

B: I am aware of that. Your option just sounds a little more time consuming to use than an expanded inventory.

C: It would function as a small supplement to the backpack. It's inventory space would just be visible along with the backpack inventory for the sake of simplicity and to make it easier to use. I'm thinking it would work something like this. A locked row would be visible in the inventory and would be unlocked by placing a crafted satchel in a special slot (the slot would have an outline of a satchel in it to show that it goes there) to the left of the row.

D: It certainly wouldn't be breakable. A special slot to put it in just sounded like the easiest and most obvious way for a player to use it to upgrade their inventory. It wouldn't be worn like armor.

    E: I was just making a suggestion.

F: Sorry, I didn't really want to read through all the other posts.

While I really like all of these ideas I have an objection to the current satchel idea. You're on the right track here but, I think there is a better way to increase the inventory. In my opinion the satchel would be much more useful/convenient if there were perhaps a slot in your inventory menu (similar to the slots of to the side for armor) where you can place a satchel and doing so would add another row of nine slots to the inventory (There would only be 1 slot for a satchel). As you would only ever need to make one of them it should cost a little more to craft. Perhaps a square of 8 leather in the 3x3 crafting grid like the chest is with wood planks.
