If you're asking us how to overclock, don't overclock. 1GHz doesn't give you much headroom anyway, you'd probably only squeeze 50-100MHz out of it afterwards.

If you really want to, get the MSI Afterburner/Kombustor suite. Use Kombustor (or Furmark if you're into that) to test your card for fragments, then play a really graphically intense game on ultra for an hour if Kombustor comes back stable. Sometimes, if it's stable on Furmark, it'll crash right away in a game.

Once you've got a clock speed that doesn't crash on either, leave Kombustor (or Furmark) up for ~24 hours and do some kind of 8 hour marathon gaming sesh just to make super duper sure.

And for the love of god keep temps below 70-80C
Ok, I've changed my mind on overclocking, because I'm so new to all this. But do you know how to stop my card from idling? because I think that is the problem.

Why would you want to OC a 7970 that's already factory overclocked?

A 7970 is overkill to begin with, even on 3 or 5 monitor setups...

As others have said, your GPU is probably idling. I ran shaders with a 256 pack on a heavily modded minecraft on a MSI 7950 at stock clocking and easily got 60-80 fps. I limited it to 45 using Optifine though.

I can only think of 1 off the top of my head (MSI Afterburner) but many programs can monitor your GPU usage on idle its using very little resources and isnt being used to its full potential minecraft not being particularly intensive leaves most high end GPUs on idle

you really dont need more than 30 FPS while recording it will only display 30 so its not a problem again you could always try Fraps
Yes, but do either of you know how I can stop my card from idling?

EVERY GPU is different (not to mention yours is probably idle) you wont get the same results they did at the same voltages if you are certain anout on overclocking as I added to the previous

Get Furmark, GPU Z and MSI afterburner you must and I mean must have the 1st 2 but you really should use afterburner

Avoid changing the voltages until you absolutely have to its easy to get it wrong and fry the card

Monitor tempratures during the stress test if they start to get too high down clock it or you will damage the card with heat

Overclocking is never ''Safe'' but if done carefully it wont kill your card be careful and try to avoid messing with the voltages too much and you wil be fine
Ok, I guess I should listen to you, as I'm the one asking for help. But just quickly, how can I tell if my card is idle? And also, I'm fairly sure it isn't capped. I set the FPS to cap at 99 on Camtasia (It only allows double digits). Here is a video of my card, anyway. Excuse the crappy quality, and I accidentally disabled the debug menu really early on. But as you can see, if you look at the frame rates, it does go up to 39FPS.

Pro tip use MSI Afterburner its better

(also dont overclock if you dont know what your doing)

also Shaders just bring any rig to its knees they make an already poorly optimised game beyond horrible (also recording program is probably limiting FPS to 30 because most video sharing sites only display 30 if not use Fraps and limit it)
I'm not exactly keen on getting any new software, I'm currently downloading Dead Island and Amnesia off Steam (And I live in Australia, so the average connection speed is around 140kb/s).

I found a site that explains it a bit, if you look at the Overclocking withour Voltage Tweaking section, can you let me know if it will be generally safe?

    Here is it

DISREGARD TITLE! I NO LONGER WANT TO OVERCLOCK.

Now, all I want is for someone to tell me how I can find out if my card is idling, and if it is, how to stop it from idling.

No support. If all the silly little suggestions on the forums were implemented, Minecraft would effectively be bubble-wrapped.

First of all, your monitor can probably not even display more than 60fps, unless it is a 120hz model. but even then, It would pretty much hit the maximum of the monitor.
Also minecraft is horribly optimised, so it is not a game you can compare as far as performance goes.

As I stated in my previous post:

It's just because I heard FM87 Gets 350fps with his 560ti while recording, which is weird, seeing as the reason I got the 7970 was because I heard it was the best single GPU on the market, and seeing Minecraft doesn't support SLI/CrossFire, the 350FPS would be from a single 560ti... Which shouldn't be better than the 7970, due to it being called the best single GPU on the market.

I don't mind the FPS I currently get, I know my monitor can only display 60fps, but I still would like it if I knew my GPU was actually functioning properly.

Hello everyone, and happy new year.

Firstly, I'm not sure yet is this should be in software or hardware support, seeing as the issue is unknown.

But my problem is Minecraft. I don't think my graphics card (Gigabyte HD Radeon 7970 w/ Factory OC) should be performing how it is. Here are my average frame rates, please tell me if it is performing below the standard, or if it is working as expected. The rest of my PC Specs are in my Signature.

    MC Version 1.4.6
    Windowed View - Maxed Settings
Average Frames Per Second: 106 (Goes up to 145FPS+ Rarely)

    Maximised View - Maxed Settings
Average Frames Per Second: 108 (Getting higher for some reason... Goes up to 140FPS+ Rarely)

Fullscreen View (1080p) - Maxed Settings
Average Frames Per Second: 118 (Dafuuq? Don't know why it is higher. Goes up to 140FPS+ Rarely)

I run 64bit Java, have updated my graphics drivers recently, I am NOT Running on Intel graphics, and yes, my GPU is flush against the MoBo, so it isn't a lack of power.

Here are some frame rates from Just Cause 2 and L4D2 (They are currently my most resource intensive games)

Just Cause 2 - Maxed Settings
    Fullscreen @ 1080p
Average Frames Per Second: 125 (Ranges around 113-159FPS)

    L4D2 - Maxed Settings
    Fullscreen @ 1080p
Average Frames Per Second: 145 (Ranges around 110-160FPS)

Please help, It just doesn't seem right with the frame rate being so low.

Those do not look like LEDs at all. Those look more like temperature probes in a plastic tube to protect them since they are somewhat fragile in long run.
That makes sense... seeing as there are 3 probes, and 3 tempratures on the case, all matching up as CPU, SYS, and HDD (The "Probes" have labels saying that).

Seeing as we now have that solved, do you know of any way I could light up the inside of my case? With blue LEDs?

    Hi everyone,

A couple of months ago, I built a PC, with the help of alot of you guys here on the forums. When I built it, i noticed some of the LED light wouldn't turn on, (More specifically, the ones that illuminate the build for display for the side panel window) Here are some pictures of inside the case.

Here are the LEDs (Atleast I think they are LEDs...)

Here is a picture of the complete inside. I indicated where the cord leads with the blue line.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Extra info:
The case is a NZXT Guardian 921b, and the Motherboard is the Z77 Extreme-4M., and the LEDs on the front of the case function perfectly, aswell as the temperature gauges.

    Thanks in advance

Nice Nice! But what about changing the eye-color?
The eye color supplied is blue, as you can see, and it is very simple to change, and can be done in Paint, or Paint.NET, to whatever color you desire. Eventually, I might include a few more eye colors, and variations, but for now, that is all :) Thanks for your reply
