Now that I can actually see it, I believe its time for an actual review. I believe that I will just number my points and try to stay on the specifics with each one.
1. The face is typically what catches my attention. It appears as you used the shader tool, which typically doesn't look too great if used non-methodically on surfaces such as skin and metal.
2. Again, there are frequent issues with (correct me if I'm wrong) the shader tool. Some pixels stand out and add shading where no shading should be. Adding noise can increase effect, but sometimes it can be unnecessary.
3. The head is annoyingly non-dynamic. The hair appears flat on his head, along with the hat. The hat is also not an actual hat... Nothing gets on skinners nerves more than a flat hat or sword on the back of a character. Try using the helmet function, its useful. With this I must tell you not to overdo it; try making hair that pops out by playing with different pixels in the hat layer.
4. Some areas are counteractive to your aesthetics. The colours appear semi-unrealistic, and the shading on some parts does this as well. I am still debating if the exposed part of his arms is intended to be skin or cloth. You never want people to struggle with distinguishing parts of your artwork, as it will cause confusion and sometimes give a false impression of your skin's detailing.
5. I am wondering if you used the given pallets or HSB. It isn't very wise to use given pallets, as they steal the life from your colours by either being too bright or just being the wrong colour altogether.
I apologize for the negative review, just consider that I was merely highlighting my opinion on the negative things. I feel that by addressing what could be improved upon you become a much more dynamic and interesting artist. Also keep in mind that reviews can be opinionated; this is just how I, as a studying commercial and advertisement artist, feel that you could improve. Overall you did a great job, especially considering that this is your first skin and absolutely everybody has a different art style. You don't have to listen to a single word I just typed as long as you personalize your work and consider adapting for a more appealing look.
Why hello there mate. First of all, I must apologize for the brevity of this comment, as it may be rather destructive to your moral when your first comment is merely a few remarkably not-salient words. Second, out of sheer laziness, I have not yet taken the liberty of addressing your major issue: the fact that your sole image is just the raw texture file. This is no way to advertise your work, my friend. Most would do as I was tempted to do and exit out of this window altogether when the see that your submission has not been properly projected to the community. Basically, it looks phenomenal from a distance, especially considering the fact that this is your first texture. I would recommend giving us a screenshot from either your personal minecraft game or the program you used to create this skin. Everybody enjoys the company of pictures to brighten up the lonely threads on the forums. Besides, even some of the most trained eyes cannot view the fullest effect of a texture without seeing it applied to a model.
I give you my regards, friend, and I wish you luck on your journey into the art of textures.
Good day,
Noxious Acid
Edit: I forgot to mention that certain persnickety people -coughnoxiousacidcough- generally do not accept an hour as sufficient time for a bump. If I recall correctly, I believe twelve hours is the official forum rule for support, mapping, modding, and graphic related bumps.
Edit 2: Forgive me friend; my eyes must be failing me yet again. It appears as you actually waited an entire solar cycle to state your bump. I apologize deeply and I hope for forgiveness for my foolishness.
I think it would be nice if there was some kind of body enhancement asl well
I will look into adding torso or appendage modifications. The main problem is that every skin is different, so I am not capable of simply throwing something out what changes all (human) skin into robot parts. Such a task would require working by hand, which I could do rather easily if someone would care enough to request it. For now, body modifications would be limited to cores, gloves, [and] even full arm or leg enhancements. Try leaving a specific comment on what you would like to be added.
My greatest regards go to you for giving me the privilege of a first poster.
Have a nice day friend.

EDIT: I decided to move this to the bottom for the easiest viewing of the main attraction.
Sorry about the annoying giant watermark; I spent a descent bit of time on this. The stealing of work seems a little bit too common nowadays for me to risk it...Especially on a forum known for so many griefers...Anyhow, enjoy the fruits of my labor day. I am open for suggestions and constructive criticism. Please, keep it constructive. If anybody would be interested in helping me turn this into a somewhat pseudo-TF2 update style thing (By this I mean various click-triggers leading to other images and downloads. I believe that requires a good bit of knowledge with HTML and possibly even Java, which I, sadly, have absolutely no training or experience in), I'd be nothing but honoured to have the gift of your help.
A few quick notes, for those who care:
1. The image is made using various opacities and colours that I found would look at least partially well-made on a variety of backgrounds.
2. These ARE NOT game changing in any way shape or form. These are skins which merely replace heads/headgears for now.
3. These skins are designed to be used one at a time and only alter parts of the skin. It is necessary for the fullest experience to apply these on top of a skin and only use them one at a time.
4. If you are having trouble applying these functionally to a skin, I strongly urge you to download a program like skin edit. Skin edit is extremely simple to use and with a click of a button you can have an assortment of accessories applied to your skins.
5. (This one is for you real brainiacs out there) I am not responsible for damaged or lost skins due to faultily applying these skins. It's your fault, just suck it up.
6. These are legally the property of me (NoxiousAcid, Noxious Acid, Sam Fullerton, etc.), hence my watermark. Seriously, don't steal them. Anybody even remotely interested in art knows that stealing work isn't cool. You're ruining somebody's time and effort, and likely you will be caught, exposed, and humiliated.
EDIT 2:

I have a similar idea of beds:
When you go to sleep, your character regenerates HP at a rate based off the bed-frame.
Craft a bed-frame=
[] [] []
?????????????
[] =2 blocks
the ????? is where 3 of your element will go. ( )
You will need a cover, this is what you right-click to sleep. The bed is EXPENSIVE on purpose so people won't carry them around everywhere.
[] [] []
[] [] []
=2 blocks
You put the cover on the bed-frame in-game. The default for a sheet on the ground (and cobblestone frame) is 2 HP/Minute. That isn't very good. Wood does 2.5 HP/Minute, Iron does 3-3.5 HP/Minute, Gold does 4-4.5 HP/Minute, and Diamond does 5.5-6 HP/Minute. When you are asleep, your body is on the bed. You don't go to a dream, you become a dream-ghost! You are still in the normal world. You can move 5 blocks around your character asleep and do things such as craft (if workbench is nearby), use your inventory, use chests(that are nearby). It's best to sleep at night because if your dream-ghost touches daylight, you will wake up. You can't mine/break blocks when a dream-ghost. If you get hit ONCE by a hostile mob, player, or go outside the 10x12x5 boundary, your dream-ghost respawns at your body without loosing anything.
This is designed for SMP. You could carry around bed-frame and cover and go to sleep when it turns night but the hostiles will probably kill you in your sleep, not to mention thieves. So players make Inns with diamond/gold beds where travelers can resupply (room service through little window) and craft all of their tools (maybe look at maps etc.) while healing their health for a "small" fee.
I'm loving your ideas, but the thing is, HP regeneration should not be as easy as building a bed then waiting for a minute or two. This would be abused frequently. I Understand that your idea would work in SMP, and that it would be a hell of a lot easier to program.
I personally think that it needs to be a challenge to regenerate your HP. After all, finding and cooking food is a challenge.
The effect is the way it is because its original purpose was for screen shots.
Notch put thought into it when he programed this. It is more than likely that someone will accidentally bump the F1 key and then have abso-friken-lutely no idea how to get their quick bar back. They'll have to look a bunch of crap up, or spend a while pressing each individual key looking for one that does something. Or worse, they could troll the minecraft forums looking for a solution! *cough likeyou cough*
Look at every aspect before posting a small thread basically trolling our forums with [w]hor[e]rible grammar that has little to know use whatsoever.
Well, I got bored, so I decided to write a bit about what I believe would be awesome if it was implemented in minecraft.
First of all, don't bash me for low post count. I've been playing minecraft for a heck of a lot longer than most people, I'm just not quite that active on forums. Second, I apologize for any misspellings or bad grammar. It's 2:46 when I'm writing this. Third I am open to criticism, but don't leave a one line post saying "OMGZ TIS IZ GONA RUIN MI MINECRFTZ!" On that topic, it's also threadcrapping to post "lulz nice ideaz." So if you're going to take the time to post, please, seriously, PLEASE, I beg of you, post some constructive criticism. I don't even care if you reject my ideas in every single possible way. Any words of advice or comments is very appreciated; your words will help me improve ideas or eliminate the illogical ones.
and fourth, I'm almost positive that the ideas that I am writing down will pretty much NEVER get implemented in game. Notch probably wont even take a second glance at this thread. I am writing this for creativity purposes only. Hopefully someday I will get off my lazy butt and teach myself javascript, then my inspiration will become a reality. If you're a modder and you like my ideas, feel free too make a mod with the proper credits. I will be honored to see my ideas in-game.
well, on to aspect one
Beds
Many people have suggested the addition of beds into the gameplay. Most threads state that they should be purely for looks and that they'll be a perfect use for feathers and cotton, but through weeks of talking about minecraft with my friends from P.E., we came up with an idea. It isn't quite that bad if I had to say so myself.
Obviously the bed would need to be craftable. It could be crafted as one large bed, but that takes the fun out of it. The recipe is definitely not what we put the most thought into, so bear with me here.
The basic idea would be that you could craft a pillow. Feathers and cotton would be the most preferred ingredients. This pillow , or possibly two pillows, would be placed upon a two by three grid of cotton (Does that sound reasonable? One of the biggest conflicts that arose here was that making the pillow would take more cotton than the bed...)
There could also be craftable "Bed Blocks"
I was thinking that would be made as so.
[] [] []
Potentially the wood could be sticks instead, it may work a little better. This would allow you to receive three bed blocks. After repeating the process, pillows would need to be crafted.
possibly pillows would be made like
]" title="-<->" /> ]" title="-<->" /> ]" title="-<->" /> = 2 or 3x pillows, I'm still debating.
the final bed would be created by placing the blocks in this pattern
]" title="-<->" /> ]" title="-<->" />
being the bed block and
]" title="-<->" /> being a pillow with a bed block under it.
for convenience purposes, the pillows would only be able to be placed on top of a bed block.
Now on to the real chunk of the thread: the real use of beds.
Right clicking a bed would bring you into a dream world. Based upon the amount of hearts the player has when they start sleeping, the location that they warp to changes. Each location would be a perfect clone of your world, with replaced blocks.
1-3 hearts would bring you to the Nightmare realm, it could look like the nether, but as a clone of your world were certain blocks are being replaced with the corresponding nether blocks. New blocks would need to be added for trees, leaves, etc.
4-8 hearts would bring you to a mere alternate dimension, appearing identical to your normal minecraft save.
9-10 hearts would bring you to the perfect dream. This would be a fantastic way to implement The Aether (shown here - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=81138&start=1440). Aether blocks would replace normal ones.
All blocks collected in your dream would have to disappear when you wake up, to prevent the random generation of new blocks.
The thing about dream realm is that if you survive a dream night, then you regain all of your missing hearts. I suppose that it could be made that you can only sleep at night.
The time scale will be that five minutes in dream world, is a mere one minute in real world (kinda like inception, :tongue.gif:)
In the dream world, there would be a little camera in the corner of your screen, displaying a small third person view around the bed in the real world. That way, you would die to wake yourself up just in case you see danger coming. I personally think that it should be possible to go into a dream within a dream, but no lower than that (lag would over complicate things.)
For now, I'm tired and I can't think of much, but I'll put in an edit if I remember any more of it.
I got bored of searching for the super secret thing in beta, so I decided to take a go at skins. These are my very first skins, ever. So tell me what you think! :biggrin.gif:
I liked the way the skin tone looked in my first skin, so I borrowed the colors and used it to start on another skin.
It's not nearly finished yet. Also, it is destined to become a female. :tongue.gif:
I just made protoman :biggrin.gif:
So tell me what you think, all critique is appreciated.
Yeah, I'm just seeing tons of threads about how "NOTCH WORKZ HARD YOU TROLOLOLOLOLOLOZ! HE DUS EVERYTHINSZ ALONE SO SHUT UPZ! HE IS WAI KOLLER THUN UZ N000Bz!"
Then again, there are an equal amount of threads bashing Notch. None that are really neutral.
I will continue to search. I think that out best bet would be waiting around until a Mojang employee leaks some info about it. Even with a large team of explorers attempting to discover what Notch has cleverly hidden, I think that it will be a difficult task.
