posted a message on How do you actually have fun in Singleplayer?

There's no motivation to build anything because nobody is going to see it. There's no motive to secure your storage or reinforce your walls because there's nobody that may raid it. There's no use in creating large farms or towns because it's only you. There's literally nothing fun about Singleplayer besides mining in peace.

That is just because you use OP storage mods...
Granted, the TE strongboxes and EU storage cabinets do this, but can only contain a certain set of items or be picked up correctly with a wrench.
Jabba and Iron Chests can not be picked up so lightly. Well... without a dolly inside a backpack that is.

So what storage mods are you referring to?

You just mentioned them, and immersive engineering. You act as if wrenches are expensive to make.

Such an item would take a slot in the inventory anyway. How is this different from just carrying a crafting station block with you? Or carrying wood and crafting one when you need it?

Because you can just right click to open the GUI instead of having to craft, place, then pick back up.The same reason people still use backpacks even though most mod's chests hold their items when broken now.

Is it possible to add EntityID to mob spawners for CraftTweaker in 1.8.9? I don't know how to do it and there's nothing about it on Google.

Can we get a portable/handheld tool station for when we are exploring/mining? It doesn't have to be full feature, just the GUI to repair or add modifiers.

posted a message on How Do You Create Mods

I started with 1.7.10 MrCrayfish's tutorials, then techgeek's. You can browse github too if you are stuck trying to do something, and read some code and try to understand what it is doing.

That's exactly how I learned Spigot development. I downloaded my favorite plugins, viewed their source and saw how to do things.

As long as you have a decent grasp of Java, it shouldn't be much of a problem. A lot of the ideas and concepts between Forge and Spigot actually overlap, so it shouldn't be completely foreign. Trying to find information of Minecraft Forge can be a bit unreliable, as Mojang changes a fair bit of stuff in almost all areas of the code. This mostly affects the basics, like setting an item's display name, or registering textures. Even between 1.8 and 1.8.9 there was a lot of changes to the model system which broke earlier mods. However, once you have a solid foundation for creating mods, this becomes mostly trivial, as you likely won't need tutorials As for the methods and fields changing, that is true to an extent however it's not as bad as everyone says, it's just, and gives you a good opportunity to explore the new update for yourself.

Are there any good YouTube tutorials on texture designing for mods, or do you find somebody else? Where would you look?

posted a message on How do you mine?

I personally dig a 1 block wide stairway down to level 5. Then I open it up to a 3x3 main hallway. From that, I dig 1x3 tunnels with 3 blocks in between. At the main entrance I also make a little base room for storage, furnaces, bed, etc. And I create a ladder up to levels 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 and do the same thing again. I usually get about 4-5 stacks of Iron and about a stack of diamond within a hour mining at level 5 and 10.

I've been developing Spigot plugins for a little under a year now. Nothing popular or public, just some small utility plugins for servers my friends run such as a cooldown period between TNT placement, some custom items (ore duplicator, 3x3 mining pickaxe, etc.), chunk claim land protection with friends list, etc. Nothing huge like mini games or anything. Now I've had a few ideas for Forge mods but every tutorial I watch seems to be different. I assume methods and APIs and such change from version to version of Minecraft. How hard is it to keep up with that? What Minecraft version should a noob begin with?

posted a message on Question: How do you like your modpacks?

I like a broad mix, but not too many mods. Some tech, some magic, some harder mobs, some worldgen, some cool misc items, custom spawners is a must, etc.

I personally enjoy Ender IO for it's mob spawners, multiblock energy storage, and a few other cool items like their ender transport blocks.

I use Mekanism for my main tech machines and such. Digital Miner is better than any other quarry in any other mod. Also like Solar Flux for solar power.

I use Extra Utilities and OpenBlocks for a ton of things as well.

Also some cool utility mods are nice like Chisel 2, Chisels & Bits, Carpenter's Blocks to make slabs/stairs out of any block, etc.

I never really got into Thaumcraft, but I like magic mods like Blood Magic.

I like Natura for it's berry bushes, Pam's HarvestCraft for it's apple trees, and Biome O' Plenty for cool biomes. I don't like mods that add a ton of new mobs, but I like ones that make the current mobs more aggressive, more dungeons, etc.

Pretty much a broad mix of everything. When I play modpacks, I want every aspect of the game just about to be modded. However, I don't like mods that add too much. Like there is no sense in a modpack to have 5 different tech packs. Pick Thermal Expansion, IC2, Buildcraft, etc. You don't need all of them in 1 pack. Especially mod packs that aren't even configured properly and you have a bunch of same ores with different IDs, no oreDictionary converter, etc. It's just annoying.

Also never forget Tinkers Construct. Once you start 3x3 mining, you will never want to go back to Vanilla ever again.

posted a message on When you first played Minecraft, what was it like, and how does it differ from now?

Back then, servers were mostly vanilla. They maybe had land protection and economy but not much else. Now with the soar in plugin development, everything has become pay to win. The EULA stopped nothing. Now people just use crate plugins and give away keys to people who vote so it's technically complying that non-donators have a chance as well, but the chances are so low that you have to buy 20 keys if you want anything good. Literally every server is like this these days. Anything even somewhat vanilla hardly has any players or has way too many and is impossible to get started in without having to walk 10,000 blocks with no /spawn or /sethome

PVP has always been a joke. It's nothing but spam clicking and whoever has the most god apples wins. Now that god apples are not craftable and you can no longer spam click, it requires skill and all of these 14 year olds are butthurt about that.
