If I had to make a wager I'd say that she did it as she did since stories like Project Horizons - which get her seal of approval - were started mid-way through the core-story. I guess you could say she wrote the ending as she did to give other authors the opportunity to explore the world of post-Apocalyptic Equestria through their own ways. And since the writing of the core FO:E there are legions of other authors adding to the world as well.
So her leaving it as she did gives everyone looking to add to the FO:E a chance to do, giving rise to Fallouts from Project Horizons to Pink Eyes to Heroes. Non-canonically there is The Last Sentinel, Shattered Gleam, yadda-yadda-yadda. And on and on and on.
Chapter wise, Heroes and Pink Eyes are the shortest of the canonical side-stories at twenty-one and twenty-six respectivly, if you feel like dipping your feet in deeper. Project Horizons is the monster of the side-stories with a whopping (and growing) fifty-two chapters.
Right. Totally knew that about KKat. I was testing you.
And I'll probably read Project Horizons after I read Dangerous Business, Eternal, and Background Pony, but that's it. Like I said, it wasn't really the universe that drew me in, but the characters.
So, I finally finished FO:E, and holy Celestia, KKat can write.
He She took what is one of the most objectively ridiculous crossovers you could come up with, and made it a work of art. It's really a beautiful thing and I have never felt for characters the way I have felt for FO:E characters.
If you have the time, I would wholeheartedly recommend reading it. It comes in eBook form, just be careful, because some of the eBooks don't have the last few chapters.
Speaking of which: Last few chapters discussion
My eBook ended right when Spike breathed fire onto Littlepip. I just sat there for a second, trying to scroll to the next page, and panicking. Then I read the last few chapters online.
Anyways, I totally called the ending, but it was still really good. And J.K. Rowling could learn a thing or two about epilogues from KKat. I liked how he didn't basically just say "And they all lived happily ever after." Equestria was still a violent place, and Gardens of Equestria even created some new problems.
Anyways, I saw it coming, and I was at least glad that Littlepip doesn't have to constantly stay in the pod. At least she and Homage get to be together.
Anyways, now that I'm done with FO:E, I'm moving on to MBM and Nerevar's trinity, plus Background Pony. Not sure which one I'm gonna start with. Any suggestions?
Oh, then you're passed that point. I remember it involved a lot of fessing on Mint-als I think. After/when LittlePip tripped on them for a second time.
*Sips coke with casually cool look as I wait for these assumptions to develop*
Can't tell exactly, but did you get passed the chapter about as long as the first Harry Potter yet? Can't remember if that was before or after the Canterlot trip...
I haven't really been paying attention to chapter lengths. Right now
I'm reading the battle in the Everfree with the Wonderbolts. Pyrelight just got turned to stone by a cockatrice.
So, in one day, I've read from being a bit under 5/8 of the way through Fallout: Equestria to being almost exactly 7/8 of the way through it. I've got the ending figured out, pretty much. Thoughts below for anyone who cares.
I first guessed the ending after Littlepip found out what the SPP was in Canterlot, but it's only been confirmed as I read further. Hope I'm not way off on this, but goddamn, that's a perfect ending. Littlepip ends up in the SPP, and she gets to literally be the Bringer of Light. I get chills now any time she gets called that. It's so freaking perfect. Love it.
Hope I didn't miss something in there, because otherwise I will be eternally disappointed in this fic. Because that ending is just way too freaking awesome.
IMO The Immortal Game is the weakest of the Trinity. That's absolutely no insult to it, but I just feel Eternal's sincerity and the cross-country adventure of Dangerous Business were ultimately more satisfying overall. You really should read those. Seriously.
Well, like I said, I hadn't planned on reading through them. I just saw you and MBM discussing IG and theorizing over
Pinkie Pie's nature, after it was revealed she had pegasus magic
and that particular twist hooked me, so I started reading.
On another topic.
I'm sorry if any heads explode or hearts melt, but I have to share this.
Warning: Extreme amounts of D'aww and HNNNNG inbound.
And some badly Photoshopped d'aww for good measure.
Pageclaim for D'awwsome fillies.
Two things:
1. It's as much Nerevar's list as mine.
2. The "rest?" I don't know if you mean you've already read one or two of them or if you think Fo:E is on there. For the record, it's not. Neither I nor Ner have read it.
Also, yaaay. Can't wait to hear your thoughts when you finish some of them. Though it depends on how fast you read... hell, even if you go eighty words a second, half of Fo:E is long.
Sorry, should have made that clear. I've read Immortal Game. That's it. I knew FO:E wasn't on there, but I actually wasn't planning on reading the rest of the list, and I only decided to do that after I started FO:E.
And I do read pretty quick. I was reading on and off and got to about 1500 pages, then in the last 4 days, when I've had not much else to do, I've gotten to 5000 (iPhone sized pages, ofc)
That will probably drop off now that I have Borderlands 2.
So, I'm a little over halfway through Fallout: Equestria (5000 of the 8000 pages my iPhone put it into_, and once I'm done with that, I've got the rest of MBM's Required Brony Reading to get through, but after that, I'm considering reading Project Horizons. The only thing is, I know it's not written by KKat, and the universe of FO:E isn't what keeps me reading, it's how good KKat is at writing, and making you feel exactly what Littlepip is feeling.
So, what I'm wondering, to people who've read both, is how does Somber's writing style compare to KKat's? Is he as good at making you empathize with the characters?
I thought it was the other way around; the song was based on the fic. But I listened to the song once and didn't enjoy it much. I'll check it again next time I have a chance.
In fact, if someone gives me a download link I might be able to look at it rather soon.
Nerp. WoodenToaster wrote the song for a competition. The theme was "How Rainbows are Made," so he gave it a dark twist, but he never said anything grimdark other than the chorus (In the Rainbow Factory, where your fears and horrors come true/In the Rainbow Factory, where not a single soul gets through) and the dark tune. Someone took the concept of "evil rainbow factory" and wrote a fic about it, then WoodenToaster said he liked it and put the link in his video.

How close would you say PH is to being done?

And now we need a PMV for this:
Why are there no Hank Green PMVs? Hank is a brony, lots of Nerdfighters are bronies. Why has this not happened yet?

Edit: And this is just too perfect

This makes me a very happy pony.
Also, a comic.
