    [Dante]

We had two unexpected visitors, although I should have been counted as one of them. Arion had decided to basically repeat what I said and put me in a position where I couldn't deny, plus a newbie, Avi I think his name was, had drowsily wondered over. Instinctively, I counted the people here and realized that these three, plus myself, would be perfect candidates for the team. I crunched some numbers in my head and decided that, if these guys would accept, I'd need Zaine. He was a child of the Big Three and incredibly talented, although seemed even shyer than Luciana.

"Well, if I'd be allowed to explain it myself," I said, glancing at Arion, "Andrea had another prophecy, and it's a big one. In all likeliness, Hyperion has resurrected. We'll need the best of the best to go and fight him, but it says... Never mind, that bit isn't necessary." I didn't really want to tell these guys I'd likely die. "Chiron said you'd fit in perfectly, so I decided you're coming. I didn't mean to sound rude by forcing her to go, but if I left the window to not go open, I didn't know what path she'd choose. That, and Chiron would give me an ear full if she didn't come.

"Arion, if you want to come along, I can teach you how to bend the Mist around yourself. Avi, I know you have, what, less than a day of training, but I'd like you to join us." I offered. "I'm no Son of Hypnos, but I'm sure your potential will sooner get unleashed with real experience."

(( The books always gave me a different outlook. Assuming that the campfire can't be seen from too far away, we are told by "The Lost Hero" that at least once the campfire was held at the amphitheater. I can't quote anything, but on the first night of the triad arriving at camp, the campers were sorted by cabin in the audience of the amphitheater. Piper notes that, after the Oracle tells her prophecy, the fire had shrunken and turned a dark purple, the same color as the one in her dreams. I do remember a campfire being near the cabins, but J always thought that was some sort of unorthodox shrine to Hestia. Regardless, the location doesn't change. I always figured that the Forge was right next to the Armory, which made sense to me, although I am feeling a bit conflicted. ))

(( Plus, if Luciana wasn't able to hear us over the sound of the Forge, it would be difficult to overhear anything. ))

(( If you guys want a few pointers about the Prophecy, I wouldn't mind sharing a few things with you all. After all, it's no fun just following one person's definition of Fate. ))

    [Dante]

The Stars looked beautiful as they peaked out from the evening sky. Five-ish minutes til sundown, so campfire would start soon. Of course, my peacefulness was temporary, when Chiron had come over, likely to suggest who to bring. He and I nearly always got along well enough, but I could sense our opinions being vastly different.

"Look, Dante, there answers here are obvious. If you're going to fight a Titan, wether it be Helios or Hyperion, you're going to need the best from each cabin. Clovis is the lead counselor from Hypnos, who are obviously 'Slumber'. For Hephaestus, the strongest camper in there is Lucia—" He started, bringing some good facts to the table, but I couldn't stand for it.

"I'm not bringing Luciana! The prophecy clearly says that fire will be the death of me, wether it be figuratively or literally. The only one in this entire camp who has that ability is her, and you expect me to take a pyro along to fight either the Titan of Light or of the Sun? Oh, let's get a nice big tub of poison for me to soak in while we're at it!" I interrupted.

The centaur who had taught me for so many years paced around, trying to interpret what I had said. "Luci is the only Hephaestus camper or counselor who can help you. She stays at camp for the whole year, meaning she has probably more training than even you. She may not be the child of the Big Three, but she's incredibly powerful. She's going and I'm putting my foot — er, hoof — down." He retorted. I shook my head, not in agreement or denial, but I just needed to shake it a little.

"Look, I'm sorry. I'm just getting a bit worked up seeing that I'll likely die, and even if I survive, my victory would mean nothing. It's a dead end street and there really isn't any turning back." I apologized. It hadn't occurred to me until now that it would be wise to have a fire user with me, since she'd be able to manually extinguish the flames. Without sharing another word with the centaur, I ran over to the river flowing through camp and walked onto a shark created from water. The beast carried me toward the Big House, but I the opposite direction of the Director's abode was the Forge. I could see Luciana at work inside, so I leaned on a support beam and knocked my knuckle of the pillar. "So how you feel about going on a quest?" I asked, with a grin.

(( No offense, but I really doubt Chiron would be bothered if someone accidentally walked into him. Afterall, he's half horse. That makes me wonder: can Dante telepathically communicate with Chiron?

Erip, I mean to put this all entirely as constructive criticism, but it's the undeniable truth. You tend, by what I've seen, put enough details in the average post to get the gesture across, but can get — I wouldn't say offended, but perhaps bothered — by someone overlooking any of those limited amount of details. You frequently try to imply an action but you won't describe it. An example of such would be when you were sortof following Dante and Jonathon, and expected to be aknowledged when Dante begins to fight Luciana. I don't think this is a bad thing necessarily, rather it acts as support for further explanations. ))

My patient waiting was interrupted at the sound of hooves. Chiron and Andrea, our Oracle, had arrived, and apparently were talking about what they were going to discuss with the campers. I jumped over a few seats to get down to the stage of the amphitheater, and approached them. Andrea was holding a peace of paper with a bit of writing on it. She must have had a prophecy, and this early into the summer, too.

"What's up?" I asked, and they turned to see me. "Spirit of Delphi give you something to work with?"

"Yeah, and there's some good news and bad news about what we can tell from it. Good news is that you're being assigned to this quest, bad news is you might die. When you read it, just remember that prophecies are impossible to tell what is truly going to happen." Andrea said, seriously dropping the bomb on me. I knew death was always a possible thing for me, but experiencing it personally seemed unfathomable. Seeing my facial expressions, she handed me the paper.

    Five Half-Bloods shall journey afar
To stop He who birthed the true star.
The Son of Waves comes crashing down,
Bathed in flames that cannot drown.

The Forge and Slumber to fight a beast,
Where one equals two at the very least.
The woman of snakes blocks the way,
Her words bring the demigods astray.

A battle of fate where all must stand,
Father rises in this new homeland.
    Victory or defeat matter naught,
Only with struggle can peace be bought.

My jaw dropped further as I read it. 'Son of Waves comes crashing down/Bathed in flames that cannot drown.' I was reminded of Luciana's fire that had persisted to burn even through my water, but I doubted she would try to kill me. Of course, that is exactly what I encouraged her to do back in the woods... Anyways, I moved along to the 'Woman of Snakes' bit and realized that we were likely in an even bigger hole than before. The only reptilian women I knew were Medusa and her sisters, so that was something to look forwards to. The second to last line, 'Victory or defeat matter naught,' gave the impression that no matter if we lived or died, it would amount to nothing. At least, if we gave our all and tried our best, something would likely get peace.

"Who's this 'true star' guy?" I asked Chiron, since he was the biggest nerd for the family tree I knew.

"At first, the best idea was Helios. He was a Titan, but not one of the twelve famous ones. However, then it occurred to us that maybe Helios himself is the 'true star', and his father would be Hyperion. That guy, on the other hand, was one of the Twelve." He explained. "Since you are the only one specifically named, then you'll be leading this. You get to choose four other people, but it looks like one has to be from Hephaestus and another from Hypnos."

B-e-a-utiful. There was absolutely no way to wiggle out of this expedition, since the Spirit of Delphi practically pinpointed me specifically. I decided that it would be best to just wait for everyone to get to the campfire then have the announcement and choose who would accompany me. I took a seat on the edge of the stage and laid back, my legs dangling off the side. With only myself, Chiron, and Andrea nearby, all of which having a grim attitude because of the quest, the campfire burned low with a blackish-blue color. Or was it whiteish-gold?

    [Chiron]

Most of the campers had regrouped in the armory, taking off their armor and congratulating each other for a great game, even if half of them lost. It was the same every time. A few campers had disputes, but the Counselors intervened. These kids were, in more ways than the literal, a giant family. Something I noticed, which brought a slight tear to my eye, was one of the Ares campers, probably a sixth or seventh year, had approached a first year Athena child and offered to tutor him in swordsmanship. The Apollo cabin got right to work, healing each other's minor injuries and providing small portions of nectar and ambrosia.

"Heroes!" I shouted, calling their attention toward myself. "In ten minutes, we'll meet at the dining pavilion for dinner. At sunset, make your way to the campfire." I pointed to each of the locations I mentioned, such as a large, open-air platform with marble columns and picnic tables.

    [Dante]

I was disappointed with not being able to finish the fight, but that was just life. Walking off toward the the lake, which was just past the cabins, I knew that I would get an earful from the Red Team, especially the Athena Cabin. I had bigger fish to fry, and that was my frustration with myself. What I thought was just leaves being pushed around in the wind was really a dryad, a nature spirit who had decided I needed some cheering up. I shook my head horizontally and waved them off. The evening sun was behind me, casting my lengthened shadow before me.

When I got to the cabins, I stopped at my own and threw anything I wouldn't need down. Of course, all I took with me was my magical dinner plate and some drachma. Feeling crappy about my weakness wasn't going to help, but practice would. I took these simple supplies and headed for the lake. I was apparently too weak to defeat one opponent, even if she was strong. There was a general expectation of the Children of the Big Three: the task of protecting the camp. If I couldn't defeat a camper, then I definitely can't defeat something that is a threat to them.

The shore of the lake was calm and quiet, since nobody was around. I set up shop immediately, summoning an extremely dense block of ice from the water in the lake, then obliterating it with my Cyclone Palm technique, with the miniature glacier regenerating itself. When I figured that the ice was far to easy to crack, I compacted the thing and added more water to it, just about to the point where it was as dense as steel. Luciana's armor was tougher than this, but it was a good place to warm up. I charged up a hurricane-in-a-hand, then condensing the swirling orb further and further. One strike was all it took to obliterate the iceberg. This was what the drachma's were for: putting armor on the ice. When my target had repaired itself, I sent an Iris Message to one of the two Hephaestus Counselors, Nick, asking them to bring me some Stygian Iron/Celestial Bronze/Imperial Gold alloy, the strongest material to be put in the hands of any demigod at Camp Half-Blood.

It took a little while, but the guy had brought it over before Dinner. Of course, for moving so much metal, he was forced to bring four pegasi, not including one for himself.

"So how's the training coming?" He asked. I had filled him in when I made the request, so he knew all that I was up to. Well, technically, he knew half of it. We began unloading the sheet metal, which he somehow managed to use to plate the chunk of packed ice.

"I guess we'll see. I can demonstrate for you, if you want." I offered, although I knew it was rhetorical. He clearly wanted to see how I could decimate things with water. I had made some sort of a record, managing to completely summon, condense, and build on the miniature storm in my hand in a little under a second. I walked up to the metal first to get a control test, calming pushing the sphere into the metal. The sturdy alloy gave off an odd noise, it creeping as it bent. Against a different side, I used roughly the same strength Cyclone Palm, but running. When it hit the metal, it burst the armor apart, it's destructive power carving it's way through the ice and popping a hole large enough for me to throw a basketball through with ease on the other side.

"Holy crap!" He yelled, but the two of us got right to work. He managed to, somehow, fix the metal sheets, while I put my energy to repairing the ice. Within a few minutes, we both finished, although he had put four more layers of metal on what already existed on one side. With five times the original amount of armor, we figured it would be a little less than double of what even the thickest of shields at camp were. A fully charged Cyclone Palm out a baseball sized dent in it and one at full sprint had only gone in about a quarter of an inch, the radius of said dent being about a foot. I concentrated again, creating another sphere of water, but this time I spent a bit longer condensing and adding to it. By "a bit longer" I meant twenty to thirty seconds. However, while a regular sized Cyclone Palm would have a diameter of anywhere from six to eight inches, this one was about two feet in diameter. A major upgrade. From just approaching the armored ice and bashing it, the metal had completely split, the iceberg inside being completely destroyed.

I thanked Nick and sent him on his way, the metal in tow. Next was the even harder part, since it didn't involve just doing the same thing over and over. The reason that I was in such a pickle during Capture the Flag was my distinct lack of water. Creating a spring required me to have access to the "Earth-shaker" side of Poseidon's abilities, but I still hadn't been able to 'unlock' it, so I'd have to work with what I had. A quick break for dinner (which is why I had the Golden Plate) and I was ready to go.

I had seen this in cartoons, so I knew it was totally realistic. Like a Water Bender from Legend of the Avatar, I closed my eyes and tried to connect with the distant Long Island Sound, the body of water just north of camp. Using my willpower alone, I began creating a floating stream of water toward me. It took longer than expected, since I had to raise it up about twenty feet so it wouldn't bother anybody walking underneath, but the flying river had made it' sway to the lake. If I could cover this distance, then I could probably do the same in the woods, where it was closer to either the Long Island Sound or just to the creek. At first, I just focused on keeping the water available, but I moved on to creating aquatic animals out of water and having them float around me too.

I stopped after a little while, realizing that I probably needed to be at the campfire. I redirected the water so that it would gently settle into the stream between the lake and the Sound, then jumped in myself. The water boosted my speed, letting me surf to just outside of the amphitheater. Nobody had arrived yet, so I figured I might as well sit and wait.

Zaine had crossed the creek with the Red Banner, which had been witnessed and passed along to Chiron, who blew the horn for the game to end. Blue Team had won!

    [Dante]

That Cyclone had taken more energy than I thought. I stood there, lightly panting. However, Luciana had already begun her counterattack. While she was getting engulfed in fire, I took my rapier and slashed the caps off of my two remaining water bottles. The filtered water gave me back some energy, as well as having slightly boosted the amount of water I possessed. I leveled my hand with the oncoming misile that had previously been Luciana and her shield, my water beginning to form the head of a gigantic shark. Obviously, I wouldn't have enough, so I had to stick with giant aquatic shark jaws. Each droplet was energized by the power of Poseidon, which made it glow a light blue.

Of course, the horn burst through the air.

Agrivated that we couldn't really continue our fight, I willed the teeth to become more like a whale's — flatter, almost wall-like. Hopefully, it would be enough to slow her down.

Erip, since both Luciana and the Ares camper and preoccupied, this is the perfect chance to make an attempt at the Flag.

Also, I will be continuing under the idea that Luciana, much like the majority of the world, is right handed. ))

    [Dante]

The crazy blacksmith had sent her spear head-on into the sphere of raging water! Luciana must have had a lot of faith in herself and her weapon, as any other tool of that variety would have snapped under the crushing power of the Cyclone. I tried my best to force the water to become even more chaotic, in an attempt to further delay her strike. That's when I noticed it: our arms. My right arm was the one controlling the sphere, leaving my left hand available. Hers, however, were preoccupied with the spear in her right, the shield in her left.

It had always taken me up to ten seconds to properly prepare a Cyclone Palm, but I was in a rush. I was constantly adding more water to the sphere and compressing it, hoping to achieve the most sense orb I could form. This took a whole two and a half seconds. However, I tried to keep it behind me so that she wouldn't see, plus Luciana would most likely be focused on the most present danger. The temperature of the orb was both blazing hot and freezing cold, a mixture that would put even a cyclops into shock.

In the blink of an eye, I stopped supporting the first sphere and lowered myself a bit, hoping that my shoulder wouldn't get impaled by her spear. With my left hand, I brought the second orb of swift water underneath her spear and toward her stomach. The water armor on my left arm evaporated quickly, causing me to get a terrible burn, but it was hopefully worth it. There was too much steam to see if it had landed, the intended effect being to push her away.

(( I believe Dante had blown open a wall. Wasn't that literally the first thing he did? ))

    [Dante]

Without words, Luciana had sent forth a stream of whitish yellow flames, the heat reaching me even before it was within reasonable range. I couldn't analyze the move, since it was a bit more focused than her previous attacks. My worst fear was that she would try to control it in midair. If the fire turned into a flaming heat-giving missile, my plan wouldn't work as well as I thought. I ran straight for the flames, rethinking my idea, and strafed off to the left a few feet. Her projectile worked, I guess, by completely burning the ground where it landed.

You won't get me with that, I thought. Continuing to sprint at my opponent, I covered the distance in just a few seconds. Perhaps all I needed was a running start, because I leaped at one of the seemingly sturdy walls and had scaled it the majority of the way, then using water as a step stool, I climbed to the roof. The Blue Flag danced in the wind, the banner itself looking the same as I had always seen. I could just take it and run, since that was the general objective, and Luciana was both weighed down by her armor and less agile. Unfortunately for the entirety of the Red Team, this was more than a fight between flags. I noticed something that was a larger concern.

"With all due respect, let's just wait a second." I told my opponent, as I gave a sharp whistle. A medical Pegasus swooped in, a member of the Apollo cabin picking up his charred brother, Jonathan. When the two left, I got serious again. I ran toward Luciana, my sphere raised, but I had a minor change of directions. Instead of aiming for her head, armor, or shield, I jabbed the miniature cyclone toward her spear.

(( You can still block it with your shield or let it hit. I tried my best to leave it open enough for you to decide. ))

The water I had been given, although not a whole bunch, was enough for the time being. I figured that, if I didn't recycle any of the water used, I could pull off four or five Cyclone Palms (Cyclone Palm is the name I gave to forming a sphere of rapidly shifting water in the palm of my hand), although only three after I do something more. One would be enough to decimate the majority of the structure, so I felt pretty well equipped. However, I did have priorities. I spread a thin layer of water overtop of my skin. If my predictions were correct, it would be enough to defend against most fire based attacks. I could freeze a patch on command to form a plate of ice and any wounds would regenerate.

"Luciana, get your strongest Attack ready. If you aren't prepared to kill me, the you won't win this duel." I challenge and advise, as I stepped out of the forest, pushing a few branches out of my way. There was no time for communication, just actions. The water that wasn't coating my skin began floating around me, right around waist level. Holding my arm off to the side, the blue translucent fluid formed a ball, each miniature current inside a force to be reckoned with. I dropped the temperature to subarctic levels. No ice formed, since the rapids couldn't hold still for long enough.

Without any other warning, I dashed toward the main threat of an opponent. Of course, with all of this epic build-up, I happened to trip on a chunk of stone, probably part of the wall I had blasted open. My attack... faltered. The ball burst and freezing water was tossed in several directions like a water balloon.

"Dang it... Let me try again." I said. This time, the orb seemed a bit more intense, with the liquid inside moving too fast for me to tell where the streams were flowing. With a bit more willpower, I forced the ball to shrink, condensing the energy into a smaller point. Impact with this would not be pretty. "Okay, take two." I joked, doing an odd Director-Hand-Sign-Thing. I sprinted, now careful of my surroundings, toward Luciana. While doing this, I gave a tiny glance to where some Red Team campers were hiding and averted my gaze to the Blue Flag just for a split second. Hopefully, they'd get the idea. Afterwards, my focus was solely on my foe.

Another example, which has literally nothing to do with Hypnos, is the Curse of Anaklusmos (Riptide). Ares predicted that Riptide would betray Percy, and it did by becoming extremely heavy and too difficult to fight with. Imagine that simulated by draining someone's stamina, especially against a strength based warrior from Ares cabin.

For the whole Zeus-Sleeping-During-War thing, it's different with Ares. As the God of War, he is directly energized by conflict, so the scenario changes for this case.
