Unfortunately there is no deeper meaning or cool origin of my name. I was starting to play runescape (7 or so years ago) and i typed "nikko" in the name bar, "Nikko882" was one of the suggested names (Nikko was taken, obviosly). And I looked upon it and though it had a nice tone to it (in norwegian it almost rhymes), the name has stuck with me ever since. (I googled it and on the front page there was 1 or 2 that was not me). Thus I became "Nikko882".

If make a summon spell the creative way the spell will default to skeleton. (as far as i know)

The dark nexus need sacrifices to work > makes stuff go faster but more dangerously. The light nexus runs on nothing but love and sunshine but makes machines run slower.
Make a circle (3 x 3) with redstone inlay (recipe in the compendium).

If you are to use the inscripiton table in creative mode there will be a button called "make spell" (or something along those lines), which insta makes the spell.

The AoE component has (as far as i know) not got any particle-effect yet. Though you can check with something that gives a pretty decent pointer of the AoE (Ignition/dig or something like that). Also make sure to check the casting mode you are in. The weakest casting mode currently gives a 1 x 1 block radius. Try higher levels if you have not already done that.
Also further on the discussion of wrong names on some ores:
If you are to click the middle-mouse-button in creative, you should generally get get block/mob-egg or whatever you are clicking on. Though when you do this on certain AM2 ores they give all wrong blocks (except one which I can not remember). This might not have been done on the newest version so it would be nice if someone can confirm.

I suppose that (like all the other blocks/machines in the mod) the essence refiner needs essence from a natural/light/dark nexus. (Can anyone confirm?) Have you tried that?

Another possible solution would be to give it a more obsidian-like texture so that it would not that out of place in the overworld.

Spell colour is defined by a the colour you throw into the crafting altar in the making prosess(i think). The mob to spawn is done the same way; the altar asks for a bottle of creature essence, you choose the creature. That item is essence (dark, light or natural), which you can get from the respective nexus (structure).

AoE is already centered on the caster, throwing in self would make everything between the "self" and "AoE" hit the caster.
Example: Self - Heal - AOE - Magic Damage (heal the player -> damage everything around (i think))

I think it should work with all recipes. Just plot in the recipe in the top box, and keep the bottom 3x3 square supplied. There is no start or stop, it will craft as long as there is items to craft and a worker at the station.

Have you tried naming them with a name tag, this should prevents mobs from despawning. (at least in vanilla)
