is there anyway you can send me those 2 images you've made? I'll upload them to my host and change up the coding for wherever its been posted lol
Hey guys, sorry i haven't posted in forever... been dealing with some irl stuff and waiting on the Moderators on Get Satisfaction to respond to me.. but apparently they think its best to just ignore me. So whatever...
Anywho, despite everything, its almost a guarantee Flood Gates, Grates, or any other sort of block that allows fluids through will get implemented with just how much positive feedback there is over all the similar drainage grate concepts. But there's no telling just 'how' they will be implemented or exactly which idea will be the benefactor. One things for sure, expect this to be seen as a official block sometime in the future.
I agree with landmine. A revamp of the OP would do wonders to the topic.
If you guys think it'll help, then i'll get back to working on that then... just don't know when i'll have the time to really sit still long enough to do that. Gonna aim for later tonight if im not kept working too late *nods*
Is this a necro yet?
either way I want people to see this.
The only way this will die out is if it gets implemented, or if Notch himself says it should. Until then im going to keep trying. To much went into this from many people for me to just up and let it die out like this..
someone else had posted this very same suggestion on Get Satisfaction some 2 months ago... i've gone through and read there post, and im convinced ours is better. Just not to sure how to show that to the moderators there.
I've filed a dispute and i guess we'll find out what happens =/
Same happened to my foodcraft topic :sad.gif:
All the other topics on food are one paragraph imageless posts with a lower quality, and they deleted mine :sad.gif:
Good Luck with the topic :biggrin.gif:
thats horrible... They shouldn't take 'who comes first' over quality... but i guess its more or less just the 'suggestion' Mojang will need... the rest they'll work out on their own.
But still, two (or more) similar topics can decide rather the implementation of the concept will turn out for better or for worse. Quality should still have a say in the matter, and that's what im determined to get the moderators at Get Satisfaction to notice. Just need to figure out 'how' ...
EDIT: in the end... if these grates get implemented regardless who's suggestion takes the credit. We'll still profit... i can't help but feel this is my fault though... i should have done more research before i posted this and got everyone involved in the effort.

Update:
I left my trap running AFK for 6 hours and collected less than 10 items. Out of frustration I deleted and reinstalled Minecraft. Problem solved. Could have been an issue with MinecraftAM? It works great now.
I might as well try it since my trap has stopped working again for some reason, and i can't even imagine what it could be now since i've done just about everything to it.
I just have to question the "falling sand/gravel hitting the grate and turning into an item and falling through" property:
Under what conditions might this ever be true?
Why, if the player places a grate and then places sand above it.
Whereupon the sand turns into an item and is immediately picked up.
What was the bloody point?
You can never get sand or gravel on top of this block without manually placing the sand or gravel there, making the "harvest" useless.
The only other time would be if you:
Placed the block under a stone block, mined the stone block, let sand sitting on top of the stone fall.
Which makes me think that this was a lot of effort just to avoid suffocating by accident (except that you knew it was coming anyway).
lol, trust me, i understand your reasoning. But the point in sand and gravel turning into item form when falling onto a grate is more of an 'accidental' trait. Its just like with torches, if you place one under a pillar of sand where a block of dirt is holding up the sand, and you dig out the dirt, the sand falls and hits the torch. The sand gets turned into item form, since it obviously can't share the same area with the placed torch.
Torches were never designed for this in mind, it just happens. Just like with how i imagine it happening with grates. I guess i'll need to make that more clear in the OP.
Alright guys... it appears we've reached that point with this idea where it seams about as flushed out as we can get it without over doing it. Im going to take some time later on to reorganize the OP, take down the bits of text that ask for opinions, and prepare it for the next stage...Getting Notch's attention!
If anyone has anything to say that hasn't already been mentioned, now's the time =D
With so many people who like this idea, and so many uses already being thought up, i really am starting to believe we can take this all the way ^^
Once im done reorganizing the OP, will all of you be willing to help get this noticed? For those of you who aren't exactly sure how, no worries!~ im going to edit something about it into the OP on what to do and where to go do it =]
I... I want to hit "Quite frankley scarlet, I don't give a damn" even though I like the idea. Just because it's a great quote from a great movie. I dunno what to do
LMAO go for it if you want XD
you can change your vote at any time. I laugh every time someone votes #3
an alternative to the 'NO' vote that at least makes me laugh.
I saw your idea after i posted this, and I love it, but grates aren't floodgates. This would allows you to toggle the flow of liquid, not just have liquid run through a otherwise solid block.
lol did you read the whole post? It covers redstone wire usage (as well as other devices that send a charge) that allows you to turn them On and Off. Which pretty much covers the flood gates thing. HOWEVER the flood gates thing was not my idea, but someone mentioned it and everyone in my thread thought about just combining the Flood Gates function with my original Grates idea, and over time it developed into what it is now.
Im not at all taking credit for this idea anymore, whats going on now in my thread is thanks to many different people here on the forum, if you'd like to take part in helping us flush out this idea and get Notch to notice it, we would love the help ^^
Well this has already been something Notch n' Team has considered in the past, but haven't gotten around to it. Also, i already have something similar and already covers this idea in my suggestion. Here's the link:

As my roomie just now said:
seems to make the most sense now *rolls eyes*

The way i imagine it.. Grates act like empty space to water. So water would simply do as it normally would as if the grates weren't there.
