just finished updating my server + plugin source in like, a week ago ? and *poof.... 1.2.5
Mojang, you should care about us more, server admins, plugin developer, texture artists, and modders.
I can bet all of my money that Notch, Jeb_, or any other Mojang guys NEVER know how hard it is to maintain a minecraft server.
They NEVER know how to stay sane while updating your server, mods, texture pack, when tons of 12 - 15 years olds screaming "Pweazz update to 1.2.4" or "halppp, it says outdated server what do i do ?
This is why i think its really hard to maintain a minecraft mod, text pack, servers, and server plugins.
1. In other games like doTa, RF, ragnarok, in 1 GB RAM you can hold like 200 players +, in minecraft, 1 GB can only hold 15, or 25 (without any mod), its a HUGE hardware requirement.
2. Lots of players are retarded enough not to ask "update or not" when they logged in to minecraft and see "update now ?" button
3. Plugin developers spent their time coding for FREE, or coding for a very cheap price. My developer accept $20 for a HUGE plugin that needs a lot of time to code. It is because they LOVE the game and wants to contribute something to the community.
4. Server admins, theyre using their creativity to attract members to their server, adding new features to give players best experience and to make it different, not just another singleplayer.
5. I used some mods like minimap, optifine, and zombe. Those are really good tools for building, and admining a server. And there are lots of mods that adds completely new playing experience like tale of kingdoms. Minecraft mods is VITAL in my opinion.
And the last thing. We are doing this for Free and for Fun. Because we LOVE minecraft, we LOVE the game, and we LOVE the community. Mojang should really look down below to us.
We can't sit down 24/7 trying to update our mods, server, or texture packs, this is our hobby not our job !
1.7.3, the first time i played minecraft, was the golden era of minecraft IMO. The game is very simple, yet very complex. Every updates introduce new big things to the game (like when updating to 1.8), and 1.8 to 1.0.0
And every updates came in a sane amount of time, not every 4 - 5 weeks !
Mojang, please stop this nonsense and think about people that contribute a lot to the community. -

okay i give up, lots of mojang fanboys here that can;t understand

you kidding ?
i bought the game so mojang owes me...
if it is a free game than i wouldnt care about downtimes like this
0
1. I bought 3 premium accounts, all of my brothers bought premium account, 2 of my best friends got premiums too
2. so, it was 3 + 2 + 2 = 8 account
3. 8 x 19.95 Euro = 159.6 Euro
4. I bought mojang's game = mojang owe me
5. we love to play multiplayer
6. can't login, when it is friday when we should have minecraft party
7. mojang's last tweet was 13 hours ago
8. This is unacceptable
Look, maybe mojang already blinded by the $$$, most of good miencraft servers have 24/7 staff members and all of them are VOULENTEERS.
They do not make any $$$ of that server, they just asking for donations to keep it alive.
The most important, they all have bought the game.
On the other side, mojang who already becoma a multi million dollar company, have ltos of downtime on the authentication server.
It is already 8 hours now and this is not the first time its happening.
Mojang really needs to get their ass up together before someone decides to sue them...

First, only like 20% of this thread actually means what is this multiplayer, singleplayer merging is.
It was :
You start an SP world, your client both generate the chunks, mobs, doing all of the physics and at the same time, render it to your screen. If you run a task manager you will see, javaw.exe (only 1 proccess)
Now :
You start an SP world, a server automatically started and you automatically connect to it. No, no random people can enter your server at their will. I am sure in the update release it will be added a "whitelist system".
So, now we got 2 proccess, java.exe (the server) and javaw.exe (the client). Server generated chunks, mob, physics etc, and the client only renders it to your screen.
Good side :
- More FPS because your client only render it to your screen (i can play with 80+ fps now without any mod)
- Easier for modding. You only have to make mod once, not twice.
- Easier for people who dont know how to setup a real server. You can simply invite your buddies to play
Bad side :
- Slightly more memory consumption (only 100ish mb more)
My tought on this :
I 100% support this idea. Easy modding, less bugs, cheaper and easier multiplayer, more fps.

And today, i wanna open miencraft and it said "account migrated, use email"
I put in the email i used for migration (removed email <3 Lardman), but i cant login and it said login failed
i am 10000% sure that my password is correct.
Please fix this because i have bought the game !

I currently own a pretty big public server, i managed it with some friends. Currently it is a "everyone can join" server type.
And i'm planning to make it a "semi-private" server. I mean, it is still open to public, but to be able to enter people must go through a very strict whitelist application, kinda like the voxel box server.
Why am i planning to switch ?
1. To maintain this current type of server needs a lot of time. I'm still a highschooler with many activities so i can't keep up.
2. We (staffs) have a problem splitting times. Currently, our time to solve troubles, like griefs, ppl fighting in game, etc is way bigger than our time to think new server features, events, etc.
3. It is pain in the you know what, when a lot 12 years old asking stupid questions repeatedly in the chat, when it is explained in the website, or signs at spawn.
4. Before getting this big the community feels more close and tight knit, where every players knows each other.
Ok, now i am sure i will switch, but i still have some troubles.
And i need some advice from you guys.
1. How to deal with our current players when i'm sure that, 75% of them will disagree with this switch ?
2. I am 99% sure that after the switch these kid will talk and spread bad things about us. What should we do if that happen ?
3. For any of you who own any type of "semi-private" server, do you feel the benefit of it ?
Thanks before.

Is there any way to do this ? I have looked up bukkit plugins but none of them are updated.
My server is mounted on a Centos VPS.
