Aug 17, 2013Nerevar posted a message on 1.7 Sneak Peek: Sunflowers, Falling ParticlesThis is... uh. Well, I can't complain. It'll be a nice plant to have for outside decor! Though that'll be hampered if it only faces east. So I really have to wonder what the point is. Has anyone ever been playing Minecraft and been utterly stumped as to which direction is which? If so, how is finding and planting the sunflower any easier than finding or realizing the Sun and Moon sets in the east?Posted in: News
It's a pretty useless thing honestly. Hopefully it's more a sign of more plant life coming. -

Nov 27, 2012Nerevar posted a message on Breaking News - Modding API Updates!Oh, so it's going from standard forum responses to something personal? Why? Did you click on my profile just to look for ammo to use against me? Well, at the least you did confirm my suspicions of your online character. I could never work up the energy or care to act like that, but bravo to you, I guess. Let's just move on.Posted in: News

Yes, and calling one of the most popular mods in all of MC a "placebo" isn't trying too hard.
Smug defends smug.
Not impressed. Passively stating personal conjecture based on personal experience is not an accusatory stance. Don't try to turn the tables on me when you can't, much less after I pointed out that your posting tone and agenda is both unreasonable and unnecessary.

It does have improvements in framerate for some users but indeed not for everyone, I personally use it to have multithreaded chunk loading AA and AF on my minecraft in addition to removing the bogus depth fog.
I'm aware that optifine has those. I'm just saying in my experience it's barely been a benefit or it's actually a disadvantage. My framerate drops dramatically when using optifine. And Forge doesn't support HD textured water, and I hate the HD default water Forge comes with. So it's either take a low framerate or have hideous water. I find myself using the HD McPatcher then, because it actually works perfectly for me, but then that's incompatible with Forge because the developers are too stingy to work something out. So now I don't have access to a roughly 90% of the mods out there now as they're all Forge-reliant!
This is why I'm so excited for the API, render rewrite, and native HD texture support. -

Absolutely. This is the same junk-speak Microsoft uses after they buy out a company and kill it, or delete a key feature that people liked. "Trust us, what we're doing is better than that thing so many people found necessary and loved."
It's like Steve Ballmer is writing copy for Mojang now.
They have a LOT to do to make the game run the way it does with OptiFine, and I have no trust in their ability to do it. Jeesh, the last update hosed up minecarts, a feature that's been in the game since day one. They can't even get that right.
Because Mojang rewriting and optimizing their render sequence is totally egregious now, right? It's not as if the optifine developer can't just further optimize the new build or anything, or had Mojang forbid them from doing so. And besides, I always found Optifine to run worse or barely increase the framerate, depending on the pc. I'm starting to think it's usually more of a placebo effect.

So he's a typical smug programmer who loathes the people who pay for his Lambo. Got it.
Some of you guys try too hard. It's kinda silly. -

I just realized something.
With a mod like the Aether, which is still in 1.0.0, would the API be able to make that compatible with the newest version?
If someone took the time to move the Aether mod to function with the API, then it would work. And for the most part, if not entirely, it would continue working even after Minecraft received another patch. -
Nov 26, 2012Nerevar posted a message on Breaking News - Modding API Updates! He's being facetious. He's mocking Mojang by implying it'll actually take them longer than January to release the API.Posted in: News

Nov 26, 2012Nerevar posted a message on Breaking News - Modding API Updates!I don't understand why people are saying client mods won't be supported. It's says client-only mods will not be supported. Alright. You know what you do with the extremely few mods that are client-only (how many are there? Rei's and xray-cheating scum are the one ones I can think of)? You install them with an undoubtedly created external plugin mod, or just wait for Rei to find a way around.Posted in: News
And also, I'm happy this is finally closing in. I'm really sick of Forge and its domination of the modding community now. An official API will make everything so much better. -
Nov 16, 2012Nerevar posted a message on 1.4.5 Pre-Release Available!Posted in: NewsQuote from XinwxHleakErmahgerd, so many pointless updates. :|
Why can't they fix bugs with out "updating"? I know they have done that at least once. :/
Quote from haighyorkieThis is getting very annoying, this bug tracker is proving to be a bit of a pain not an enhancement
Quote from StrawHatUra"papa, what are content updates?"
"Son, they are something we had long ago. I understand all you young folk get are bug fixes nowadays, but back when they actually release content... it was beautiful..."
This is the sorriest topic I've ever seen. Most of the people who've posted here should be ashamed of themselves. If Mojang wasn't providing bug fixes you'd all be complaining still. This is a pre-release anyways, as was 1.4.3 and 1.4.0, and I think 1.4.1. You don't have to download it, and instead can wait to see if anymore bugs need to be ironed out before 1.4's fully polished release. Use a little sense, people. -

I have a bug to report, and I'm surprised it hasn't already been caught. It is this: tnt deals no damage to me, even at point blank range. If it's a bug, please fix it. If it's intentional, get rid of it.
Test - Model 12w30e
Consensus: The TNT killed me.
Query: Were you perhaps still in creative mode when this happened? -
Jul 25, 2012Nerevar posted a message on 12w30e Ready For Testing - Pre-Release Tomorrow; MineTV DebutI'm getting 50 more frames in this build over 12w30b. I'm OK with this.Posted in: News

Lunatrius, could you possibly add basic cut and paste option for creative mode? It would be extremely useful. I would love to directly paste schematics into my creative world.

Damn right you do! Speaking of which... I wanted to drop by and show you guys this, just real quick before I leave again.

The printed copies of Fallout: Equestria finally got sent out. It's a quality print and I'm very happy to have them. Once Project Horizons finishes I'll likely read it again then move on to PH. FoE is incredible and all of you should read it if you haven't.
Have a cute comic:

Sometimes I think I should move on, however it can be hard leaving such a nostalgic place. But maybe it is finally time. I've been over three years and I've loved every moment of it. Thanks for making my life better, guys. You all made my dark days a little brighter.
After all, an ending can also mean a new beginning.
If any of you ever want to contact me, PM me or add me as a friend on steam.

Indeed. Many of the things Grum discussed seem to fully justify the things Mojang has done and will do.
The only thing that was bothering me about what Grum said was his argument about the API and using examples like Bukkit. Maybe I was misinterpreting things but it sounded like the Mod API will be closer to a script extender, not something like Forge or Modloader... which is highly concerning. People didn't wait for years for a client side Bukkit. We want a native mod manager.

I hate Grum's condescending attitude here. Totally unprofessional.... but he is right on almost everything. The modding community has written itself into a corner and is kicking its feet at Mojang to fix it for them.

The Life and Times of a Winning Pony
Background Pony
Fallout Equestria: Pink Eyes
We'll see how I do. This is a lot of reading. I'll probably need to skip one of them. I've also ordered my printed copy of Fallout Equestria. Looking forward to getting that upon my return.
I hope the finale is good, and that some discussion happens in here. This place could use some activity, guys...

Anyway, school teaches a wide range of subjects because people in general are a wide subject. Everyone has different interests and will take different paths in life. How do you then prioritize what is or isn't important? Algebra is certainly important to someone who wants to becoming a scientist or engineer. I'm a big fan of history, but many people would claim it's unimportant information. In a way they're right, because knowing about the French Revolution or the rise of Mesopotamia won't help you get out of bed any easier to go work at a regular job.
That's not the point. Keeping a rounded, educated population is the point. Maybe if we had a way to educate people more individually we'd get a more specialized and efficient curriculum, but we currently don't. There's only so many teachers for so many students.

This season has been so mediocre. I pray the final episode somehow pulls a win. This show is throwing up on itself and it just won't stop.
... Meanwhile, I'm reading Hard Reset's sequel, A Stitch in Time. Loving it so far. At least the fandom is still competent.
Edit: Finished it. Loved it, even the side story going along with it. The ending really sucker punches you too with a cliff hanger. Onwards to its sequel, You Can Fight Fate!

I would recommend Predator Cities, also named The Hungry City Quartet, written by Phillip Reeves. It's set in a far-future apocalyptic scenario where giant, moving cities roam the Earth, and the only available resources are other cities. Larger cities catching and 'cannibalizing' smaller cities is common.
It maybe sounds silly, but it writes itself into being totally believable and practical. It's a really interesting universe with solid writing and good characters. There's an emerging mystery as the story goes along, and each book (there's four of them) becomes progressively more mature and awesome as it goes on.

I've been reading more fanfics as usual (because seriously, fanfics in this fandom rock). I'm halfway through Hard Reset. It's basically Groundhogs Day, except with Twilight facing a horrible catastrophe over and over until she solves her way out of it. Great, great story. It's relatively short, to the point (no straying or bad pacing), and it's very much entertaining. Everyone should read it.
Also, it has a sequel, cuz yay reading!
Edit: I just finished it. Eh. The second half isn't as good as the first half. I'd still recommend it though.

I recently finished Off The Edge of The Map. It was enjoyable, but nothing special. Pacing is a bit fast, and nothing extraordinary really happened. But it's been on my 'to read' list for three years and I finally got to it. The author's other story, Apotheosis, is a better adventure.
Go read Fallout Equestria. Right now. Please.
I never cared for it but finally broke down and read it last year. Amazing. Best fanfic there is. Better than anything I've ever read. Do yourself the honor of experiencing an incredible adventure of hope, friendship, and sacrifice.
