posted a message on VoxelMap [1.16.1 to 1.7.10] - a minimap and worldmap

I have just spoke to one of the admins and he said that all of their plugins are custom coded so its pretty weird how atherys and wynncraft has the same issue. He also doesn't want to fix it because it's not their mod so they don't want to spend the time fixing it.

if he isn't motivated to fix it himself, a list of plugins he is using would be nice. He can skip private ones only he uses because Atherys probably wouldn't be using them heh. It's something both of them have.

Someone would then have to setup a server and bisect search the plugins (remove half at a time until it goes away, etc).

fwiw people were reporting the same thing on Atherys with Journeymap too. Which is just another reason I don't think it's my issue ;)

Has anyone tried contacted Athery's admins/ owner to get their list of plugins too?
    I hope someone knows how to setup a server and bisect plugins because I don't ;w;

Yup, that x and z are both multiples of 8 as well.
I wonder what your host thinks of that. :)

So what should I say and what should he probably do?

Could you do the same for two more of those chunks?
Looking at your map, the black chunks seem to occur every 8 chunks. Your chunk is at x -16 ( = 8 * -2) and z 152 ( = 8 * 19), so that seems to fit my hypothesis. Of course this black chunk seems to deviate from that pattern.

Maybe you could report this to your server host, because, like MamiyaOtaru says, the problem is very likely to originate on their side.

That blank/ blue chunk doesn't seem to have the red cross in the left corner like the rest https://gyazo.com/d8f89d32bced8b1a75983132da427b21 and here you go https://gyazo.com/a0a43e673a9a20740eab66fac9303a0b.

What I suggested isn't a fix so much as a way to prevent it from continuing to happen, because you'd still have to resample those chunks to get rid of the black squares

Ye it dosen't stop preventing the black squares from popping out no matter what render distance I choose.

That'd suggest they are not getting saved or loaded correctly.
Do you have the chunk coordinates of one or several of those black boxes yet?

As MamiyaOtaru said, there probably is no fix for them though. :(

Okay I used Dinnerbones coordinatine tool to get this https://gyazo.com/b3060935437a4626569463ee0404145b and I got the coords from the little red "box" in the top hand left corner of the chunk which looks like this: https://gyazo.com/dcd24df021c794babb4e1e2350fcfff9

It's something that happens on certain servers. https://atherys.com/ is another one. I've never been able to pin down why. The client is being told those chunks are empty. I'd just ignore those but on some maps chunks really are empty. I don't really feel like developing heuristics for determining when to trust the info coming from the server.

If server owners disavow any knowledge of it, some plugin is doing something weird. I'd be curious to know which one

I'll check out the server linked, but if it's like Atherys, I'm not going to spend time in survival to try to diagnose things. MC itself is a bit of a chore, I don't feel like actually playing it as part of figuring something out haha

And yeah you can't get close to them without them getting painted over with the live data the client sees. When the client gets farther away though, server's saying "this chunk is empty now lol". They change color because that's the color of the sky. You go above 64 it's blue, below it's black. Same would happen with any empty chunk. I'll stress this again: it's not that the chunk is unloading, it's that the client is specifically being told it is empty

It would be really appreciated if you developed heuistics for determining when to trust the info coming from the server (I don't even know what they are haha). I can help to diagnose things if that would be able to fix my issue. I just really want to fix this issue because it's been driving me crazy :P

I suspect one possible cause for the server telling your client that chunks are empty (and causing the blank squares as a result) is that these servers have a set limit on the chunk rendering distance, and any chunks that your client tries to render beyond that limit -- if your render distance is higher than the limit -- generate the squares. I don't have time to test it out myself (had to refresh my pc today to flush out some nasty malware that also unfortunately killed most applications on there) but it's definitely something that you could try, and I'll experiment myself once I can get my GPU to play nice again.

so your suggesting I should put my render distance down to say like 8 instead of 32 and test if that works out?

EDIT: I just tried doing this and it didn't fix it.

Reading NeonIsNeon's post again, it seems like VoxelMap is waiting for a ChunkUpdate, which is something that happens when a player enters the chunk, before re-drawing that chunk on the map.
If you close Minecraft and re-open it again, are the the black boxes back?

    Yes

There are these black/ blue (the colors of the boxes change) start to pop up randomly and they don't go away until I go directly above the chunk but I have my render distance to maximum (32). Someone before had the same issue and thought it's a server issue but is there any way for me/ the devs to fix it? This is what I mean: https://gyazo.com/8a49fdf309fb9714d4157d87c8fcadd3

Also the server IP is: play.wynncraft.com if that helps at all.

I dunno if it has something to do this file being a winrar or if it's something else. That's the only thing that seems to be different when I see tutorials on how to download voxelmap.

You seem to have downloaded VoxelMap for 1.9.0 while running Minecraft 1.9.4. Not sure how that is even possible: it shouldn't try to run at all, unless you edited the version in the litemod.json. That would just cause things to break. You want VoxelMap for 1.9.4 https://minecraft.curseforge.com/projects/voxelmap/files/2369126

I try to keep those things pretty clearly labelled.. dunno. 1.9.0 is not the same as 1.9.4

EDIT: the trace from your crashlog indicates that you are using a version made for 1.9.4 or newer (the package name changed between 1.9.0 and 1.9.4). There's no way that's the same .litemod file as from your first post. It's pretty hard to diagnose things if you are leaving out important details.

The one you were trying to load is still out of date though (lack of line numbers in the trace make that rather obvious). Where did you get it? It sure wasn't from the official download location

I re-downloaded everything and I still get the same crash, I did get it from the official download location.
