I lost 50fps going to 1.3. Something is fundamentally different, and it doesn't work on higher end video cards.

Jeb fixed the light shining trough corner bug, he said so on twitter, either he was fixing BL up for official release, or he made smooth light from scratch and just happen to encounter the same bug, I think the latter is most likely especially since he had been working so much on lots of stuff and nearing the release he was suddenly fixing BL'ish bugs. Maybe it was that fix which had an impact on performance?

posted a message on Spore: Any news?
Spore? Oh god, I swear that is the worst game to come out this decade. But the saddest part about that is, it could have been the best! EA raped it. You even see in demos done by will long before the game came out, features that was stripped away from the finished game, features which would have made the game more complex. EA thought of it as a kids game apparently, since ANYTHING that would make the game hard just isn't in the game (even weight on creatures was removed so to make it easier to make creatures, like WTF? cause of that spore is now filled with very unrealistic creatures), until you come to the space age however, then the game is too hard, or rather really annoying.

Wow, so much spam my eyes bleed. For the people that want a minimap download zanz minimap (it works for the newest version of minecraft, though FPS problems at lowest zoom atm), it's a highly improved version of simplemap that messiah basically stopped developing, why he even cares to keep updating it is beyond me.

About bettergrass we'll just have to wait for Messiah or someone else to update it. I don't feel its necessary to put it into the game tho, whenever this mod API comes out (which probably ain't too long till(next update?)) mods will keep working with each update of minecraft. That is, if the fundamental code haven't been changed in some mod breaking way.

Oh, and this about betterlight being better than smooth light, that is total bull imo. Smooth light is basically the same thing only that it's brighter. This may be why you think BL is better, cause the AO stands out more by being darker, the downside however is that torches and all light sources seem like giving off less light, not a major problem but smooth light is much better by this fact imo. It should be possible to work around this by separating AO and smoothing of light. Maybe, just maybe, Messiah could change his betterlight mod into an AO mod again, that would override the AO of smooth light with darker AO, but at the same time keeps the brighter light smoothing of the official version. Not necessary at all though, but if demand is high...

My laptop runs pretty hig temps when playing minecraft as well but I've learned it's completely due to my HDD. The way MineCraft save system is setup atm with 100s or even 1000s of files for each world makes my HD work like crazy, and thus driving up temperatures. I do have a 7200rpm HDD in a 15.4" laptop and I knew when I got chose it I'd get high temperaturs at times.

I'm expecting the 1.3 version will remedy much of this though with the complete overhaul of the saves and whatnot

Dude, its not your hard drive, hard drives are very fragile things, so fragile that if it reach a very high temperature the spinning metal disk inside will increase too much in size and the reader head will scratch it, your HD would be destroyed! HD's are not supposed to go much above 50 degrees, if it does then your case or laptop doesn't have enough air circulation and you should get it fixed fast to prevent data loss.

posted a message on Huge infodump from Notch on just about everything
What is it with all you steam haters?! I have used steam since half life 2 came out, and I freakin love it. I haven't bought a retail game in YEARS, and steam have NEVER given me trouble. Easy automatic updates are GREAT, oh and they can be paused... for the nub in the first page that like to play alone on multiplayer with a outdated version, I just don't get that, who would think manually downloading patches from the internet and manually installing them is any better? That is just whining over nothing. It's freakin obvious why you have to play the games trough steam, it's a useless piracy measure paranoid developers are the cause of, probably steam as well since they get 30%.
Sounds like much but it is more expensive for developers going retail, it's a win-win. Anyways I don't see why notch would use steam to distribute minecraft, he already got a distribution method him self that is free and working out quite well, and I don't think steam would give minecraft much more popularity than it already got!

posted a message on Who here changes the inventory to "e" button?
R for inventory, FTW. I hope in the future E will be an USE button, the current system of hitting chests/doors/furnaces/workbench etc is flawed, you can't place blocks aiming at them!!! This is a mayor annoyance in some special cases, and it doesn't have to be.

    posted a message on Capes!
No, it'll have to be something minor, I hate capes and would never wear that. Remember it's just a sign that you supported the development of the game, or is a veteran, or whatever you think of it and it doesn't have to be a cape, I'm sure we'll get customizable capes etc in the future anyways.

I don't know but if zombie pigmen die in lava then it would be impossible since water evaporate instantly in the nether, you'd have no way to transport them to a grinder. But I think they actually can survive lava.

posted a message on BiomeTerrain Mod v11.2_3 (12/5) - SMP updated
Does anyone with the unofficial version get weird stuff in their worlds like all transitions between biomes being messed up kinda, like the chunks have been flipped around without effecting terrain? Also similar stuff happens to caves, they will often end weirdly with a big wall that is not normal at all, and these types of caves are rarely larger than a chunk!

Something is wrong, but it's still very playable, and the biome transitions are mostly annoying cause it makes my mini map look ugly :tongue.gif: You don't really notice it before you see it from above. Just wondering if this is normal for all of you!

posted a message on [MOD] DestroyGrass - Another reality patcher
I don't really understand what this mod is about. What do you mean about more realistic digging? We're talking about grass which is on top of dirt blocks right? Do this mod make me able to dig that little piece of grass with a shovel and it will spawn a dirt block? How is that realistic? Or do you mean it will remove the grass leaving a bare dirt block left :\ ... And growing grass... May this be some sort of a precursor to the mods you have in mind creating? This grass growing mod, can I dig grass and "plant" it in a cave for instance? That would be cool since it would spawn animals i think. But, eeeh, I'm just guessing what you are trying to say now... I'm lost, I haven't slept for two days so that might be a factor, but please elaborate.

Really like this idea, I hope notch will implement something like this instead of a tree of recipes that will unlock as you play. I like the exploration side of it that really fits minecraft!

posted a message on Minecraft Crashes on far render distance
What java are you running? Run minecraft and open your task manager, check processes, if javaw has *32 behind it then you are running java 32bit. This might happen if you install java while on a 32bit browser, manually download 64bit and see if that fixes your crashes (it did for me). http://filehippo.com/download_jre_64/
