Don't get so down on yourself everyone struggles on their first map. I would recommend making another map that doesn't borrow so many assets from other projects like Hypixel. People love original work in this community and you have promise. This was a lot of people's problems with Ruins of the Mindcrackers. While it was cool to see those builds in a CTM it focused too heavily on the tribute and not being first and foremost a well balanced map. Keep your head high and try something new with your next project.

For this map did you create your own interpretations of Hypixel builds that are simply "inspired" or did you directly copy and paste them into the areas or build them block for block?

This is the way I see it, all of those people who do not join the discord and just stay here in silence all have the ability to join the discord. The "content" we create here is mainly our maps and the conversations we have on here are mainly what we do on discord, discussing maps or unrelated things as friends. That 90% you speak of doesn't participate because they are mainly here for the maps. Sure they will click on links we send and pictures we take but that isn't the reason they are here. Posting maps on the forums will not be going away as its a great place to attract attention and new players. The thing that is mainly going away is the day to day talking between us which is basically just made a 1000x easier using a social platform designed for that such as discord/skype/teamspeak/etc... Like I said before the people who want to listen in on the day to day always have the option of joining discord and keeping to themselves and just reading.

We have had a social platform more active than the forums long before rock made the discord. For awhile we had a skype that people talked on as friends and left the mapping stuff to the forums. The main advantage of having these is that the applications are great for talking with their quick response chats and voice channels for actual conversing. Besides even without all this its brought the community a lot closer together. I have made a lot of great friends through the CTM community that I wouldn't have gotten to know well if it wasn't for discord/skype. I actually did not like a lot of people based on the forums but after talking to them a lot of those people are some of the nicest I've ever met. We have greatly improved the community aspect through media with events like movie and game nights and people hosting servers for us to play maps together all made possible by the use of programs better suited to fit our style than the forums. It usually takes about 8 hours to a day to get a response on the forums. Discord? 5 minutes maximum during peak hours.

We may be content creators even if we didn't want to, but if we didn't set out to be that then why should we adapt our style to suit that? If we want to keep conversing as friends on a different platform I see no real reason for us to change anything, especially when literally anyone on the forums can join us.

I haven't been doing much CTM mapping lately but here are my more recent creations. Most are pretty WIP, but some feedback would still be awesome.

Woah 1k posts. I haven't been active here very much lately, but I'm hoping to be active here more as a I build more stuff. Building is really fun.

If anyone with a solid understanding of new mapmaking features (NBT stuff, complex redstone, custom spawners, command blocks) wants to possibly form a partnership, a sort of "I build the levels, you add cool features" deal, then PM me asap, I'd be really interested.

Those Ice type structures look amazing however the brimstone quarry is a bit of a mess when it comes to color. I'd try cleaning that up a bit as it just looks repulsive.

Apparently the spawners in my jam map are broken in 1.8 which is the intended version so I'll fix that tomorrow afternoon just to let you know if you had that problem. For some reason they broke before I uploaded it to mediafire.

Out of curiosity, is there any interest in a community survival server? I couldn't personally set it up, but if we can get enough people interested surely we can work something out.

We have done that in the past and it had interest for a little bit and then died out rather quickly like most smps nowadays.

Been doing some reworking to stuff in Septum recently... thoughts?

I really like the blue palette but maybe lose the white stained clay? Already enough blocks in the mix and feels a bit redundant with the quartz.

Ooh, I love the red sand area ^^ I think the others are kinda generic though, a bit too "ragecrafty"

@DrSnap23 Uhhh a build or area being ragecrafty isn't a bad thing imo. Ragecraft looks beautiful and isn't really generic in the slightest. So don't try to criticize areas based on a critique that doesn't exist.

@Sirbrock I like the areas but that red sand area feels bland. Its all one color which can get a bit boring. Maybe add in another block to the mix to switch it up a bit.

So I haven't played this game in 2 years and a couple days ago I decided to play it and go back to my favorite thing about it, Making CTM maps. I worked a little bit on a map and decided to play test it in the most current version 1.9 and It's impossible. 1.9 completely breaks CTM maps, This new combat system is awful, The attack cool down is the worst thing ever implemented in this game. The only way I can get around it is if I make the player wear a certain item that negates the cool down effect which I refuse to do because that means the player will loose an armor slot. Are all future CTM maps going to have to be made and played in 1.8?

There are already multiple CTMs in 1.9. It doesn't break the game just changes it severely. Once everyone gets used to the new combat people will not complain nearly as much. You just have to balance your maps different because a new combat system doesn't mean you give up, it means you adapt.

    @CQ

Super Hostile - Created the Genre (spellbound especially revolutionized a lot)

Vinyl Fantasy - Completely new take on CTMs showing there is a lot of creativity to be had in the genre

Bran's minimaps - Not the first minictms but the first time they were taken very seriously even if they dont seem huge or benchmark worthy.

Pantheon - Was the hardest map ever released at the time and was the first collab map. Also founded ProjectCTM which has done more projects since and is working on a few still.

From Ashes - First truly unique open world experience and made incredible use of texture packs/adventure mechanics

Ragecraft - Someone found a perfect blend between RPG, Rom hack Hard, and adeventure gameplay. Also made great new use of cmd blocks and raised the aesthetic bar very high and has still yet to be matched.
