    Personally, I won't be happy until Minecraft has more mobs than Nethack has monsters.
    In fact, some cross pollination of nethack gameplay concepts into Minecraft would be awesome.... at least that would satisfy all the RPGers.

    I also like the idea of zombie siege and survival-type gameplay (ala Call of Duty Zombies), but I think it's best suited to a mod so as not to spoil the pure sandbox gameplay.

    posted a message on Enderdragon is WAY to easy!
    The end would be hard if you couldn't hit the healing orbs with arrows.

    BUT...

    On my first visit to the end, the obsidian landing platform was overt the VOID. I was wearing all my diamond armour and carrying lots of arrows BUT NO BLOCKS available to even build my way over. The dragon came along and in a few seconds of arriving, pushed my off the platform and into the void where I lost ALL my good enchanted stuff!

    On returning to the end, now there are TWO enderdragons going around. This is clearly a bug. Makes the end zone very hard. They're constantly pushing me off the ledges and into the void. I can't even hide as they go through blocks anyway.

    So now with no arrows I figure I can at least climb the obsidian platforms with a pile of blocks at knock them out by hand. It's frustratingly near impossible. As soon as I get close, an enderdragon attacks from the other side of the tower where I can't see him and knocks me off.... and I fall far, losing all my stuff. I figure it's pointless to take much into the end, cause I'm just going to lose it all anyway to this incredibly cheap boss. Even if I'm lucky to get to the top of an obsidian pillar without dying, hitting th orb up there explodes me anyway. There's simply no reward for trying to play like this, and yet it is challenging.

    Still can't quite finish it with no equipment. Keep dying. ARRGHHH!

    I figure it could be a good gameplay element if we'd actually have to build our way over somewhere while fending off the dragon. That sort of ties in with the whole building aspect of the game. That would require at least making blocks available from the obsidian platform and not allowing it to hover over the void. Perhaps we'd have to climb our way up over islands? Ender eyes are plentiful here too thanks to all the endermen, so you could even island hop with them. That would add the the gameplay element a bit so it's not all about just hitting the bloody dragon.

    There's quite a few gameplay elements available here, but in it's current form, we really can't make use of them.

    Looks like my old worlds will have to go to waste.

    Additionally, I can understand the need to remove the grunt noise as your player falls. We have female player skins (as well as aliens) of course, so a male grunting noise isn't so great.

    If they're going to add all these extra sounds, how about a clanging sound when you hit a mob (does it in silence currently), and how about some noise when you (or a mob) drop from a height? That would be fun. (wheeeeee.... crunch!)

    I got as far as collecting enough blaze dust and ender pearls to make ender eyes.
    Then I put the eyes in the stronghold ender teleport room.

    ...then it didn't work.

    Can't get to the end because of bugs.

    Took me a good few weeks to get this far.

    I tend to agree. It should be able to go fast enough that makes far more sense to take a ride in the minecart than run the distance.

    Needing a saferoom to go hunting every night isn't the problem.... the problem is the fact that I have to go hunting every night. THAT is repetitive. Same with hunting blazes. In fact the hunting thing isn't very fun... nor does it use the gameplay elements available to us. If we have to go hunting, why not craft traps and bait for endermen (or other mobs) to step into? We can dig holes (we have pickaxes!) and cover them with shrubs? (we have those too)
    To me it seems obvious.

    As for the minecarts... so far I'm using them as trains to link villages together. I'm not really using them to send all my ore to the surface. It just seems easier for me to climb all the way out again. Booster rails aren't really a problem. I just feel that the minecarts be a more central aspect of the whole mining experience.

    If you don't think I've messed around with minecarts enough, then I guess how I'm supposed to use them isn't made obvious enough in the game (without me referring to the wiki)

    If I had ONE request, it would be that the minecarts hurt and knock mobs back that get in their way when they are moving. It SUCKS to be travelling on a minecart only for a creeper to get in the way, stop the cart, *just* be out of reach of my sword, and explode before I have a chance to get out of the minecart to kill him.

    I'm trying to reach "The end" in survival mode.

    Unfortunately, in order to get the required enderpearls and blaze rods, the freeform sandbox gameplay has degenerated into a blaze/enderman hunt.

    Essentially, I have set up a portal near a blaze generator in the nether, so I have a base of operations to run back to when the blazes inevitably burn me... and I stay up all night outside fighting off mobs in the hope than an enderman shows up for me to kill.

    Not sure that this is the gameplay direction minecraft should be going down.
    I think there a still a few gaps in the gameplay.

    Additionally, what is the point of the minecart? I can use it for travel, sure... but I can't load it with ore and send it up to the surface, can I? So far I'm just using it like a glorified train system, and even then it's not that great compared to just running. Plus it's expensive to build a railway in terms of resources. Perhaps if building the railway was a quest with a reward or something....

    Well, I tried the new 1.9 prerelease with the minecraft.exe following your instructions and it worked fine.
    No bugs to report, and I did saw the debugging window.

    When I try to play it through the browser, it bombs out though.
    Looks like I'll be playing through the exe for now.

    It doesn't.

    Since I downloaded the game in Chrome, it was saved with the .jar extension (which is as it should be I think).
    Tried shuffling the folder settings, but the extensions seem OK. It's only .jar and not .jar.jar or something

    Unforutnately, I'm still playing BlackScreenCraft, and I can tell you, it's not very fun.

    I think I'm just better off just waiting for the 1.9 beta update cause at least the update system works.

    I can't get the minecraft.jar to work.
    Windows 7 64 bit. Using chrome as browser.

    Renamed the old minecraft.jar in Appdata/Roaming/.minecraft/bin to something else
    dropped in the new minecraft.jar
    clicked on the new minecraft.jar properties and "unblocked" the file
    Started game in browser and blackscreen... ?
