posted a message on Flash Drive storage help

I have been looking up information on how to manage playing modded Minecraft for 1.12 on a weaker computer and discovered the concept of portable Minecraft. Years ago there was an app that would transfer your data onto a flash drive and boom, Minecraft that shouldn't drain your computer and instead relies on the RAM of the flash drive instead. Ever since 1.10 however the app had ceased updating but a new method came along where one could directly format a flash drive to do what you want it to do.

Now I followed this guide on this site here (the article is dated 2017, just around the time when 1.12 was released give or take, though it may have been published a while before 1.12 even existed, im not sure) following the directions to the letter from copying files and transferring the game launcher to a custom-made bin file, and all. Yet when I run the game, it still massively drains my computer like it did before. I dunno if it is due to the flash drive itself being insufficient (which it shouldn't even if it isn't the best for the job) or if I have a setting or two on the launcher itself wrong. I followed every step correctly in the above article so I know that I didn't skip a step.

My computer has 4 gigs RAM and the flash drive itself is 16 gigs (specifically a 16 gigabyte SansDisk, one of the recommended models by said article). My processor and graphics card are capable of supporting Minecraft relatively fine, RAM is my only main issue which is why I began looking up this possible fix at least until I am able to buy some RAM sticks to install into my computer. If the guide I used is not compatible with 1.12.2, I hope someone can suggest a different means to achieve the same goal using a flash drive.

Anomalocaris has a chance of making it in, but all the others are so tiny that, if they were put in Minecraft, they'd be microscopic.

Yeah I agree, the smallest mob as it is are the compies and the confuciusornis, and while Microraptor is arguably the smallest dinosaur the team would need to scale it up to the other two to even render properly. I doubt they could make any f those other tiny ones, unless they were to make them appear as a few pixels in water. And at that point they would likely have only use as being fodder for Icthyosaurs and the henodus and other small aquatic creatures. Perhaps even as feed for the sturgeons/nautilus/alligator gars if they allow one to properly tame and raise those at any point (which could help with feeding the larger aquatic beasts).

yeah I heard the issue of the rex size too the other day, I think it makes sense based on a matter regarding sexual dimorphism I was enlightened on a few months ago which stated the greater the difference in the sexes the less involved males are with their offspring.

not bad, those little touches make a lot of difference in the end.

Also on the matter of t. rex with feathers, i'm glad that accuracy is taken to its truest extent, as people always get mad at me for saying that t. rex had no evidence of feathers, somehow assuming I ment either all tyrannosaurs or that there cant be feathers on t. rex at all. I'm glad Tyranno had taken the fact skin impressions attributed to t. rex lacked signs of feathers and I don't recall the existence of quill knobs on t. rex's arms either for that matter. I like the idea of the t. rex having a feathered crest atop its head though, since many birds have that feature.

I wonder how a fleshy comb would look on a therapod? Might be an interesting look for something. Perhaps Therizinosaurus, complete with a turkey-like neck waddle

a slight shame of no word coming yet, a friend of mine and I have plans to do a Minecraft series for youtube (hes even making our own soundtrack) where we try to assemble a dinosaur park. We might have trouble setting it all up as some key mods we like to use haven't made it past 1.10 or 1.7 but we might be able to make due all the same in the end.

thanks I'll be sure to check it out

EDIT: Hmm, so if I read this article right, the more apparent the dimorphism the less likely the male is to be a active part of the child-rearing process? Interesting. That is an interesting thing to note as that was captured in The Lost World: Jurassic Park rather interestingly enough with how the male tyrannosaurus was a deep green color with a thicker neck (akin to like a rooster's neck waddle) while the female had the same basic coloration of the original rex from the first film. Despite that the two look near identical. Heck I often have had trouble telling them apart on-screen due to all the night shots used.

In a slightly different topic, while most of the dinosaurs based on what you shared appear to be just fine in their design, I think maybe the Spinosaurus would be a good fit for the polygamous category. Of course very little Is known of it's lifestyle still, but due to how rare the fossils have been to find it might be safe to assume unlike other carnivores (even big carnivores) that they lived solitary lives (which could account for the fossils' rarity, not to mention the spino was a fish eater) so it could be that after mating the male went off on its way and the female cared for the eggs and hatchlings all on her own. So maybe the male Spinosaurus could be a more vibrant individual compared to the female.

However that might be too much to ask at this stage, as I don't know the progress of the mod as it is at the moment aside the Mega Mobs and the new terror bird designs.

I wonder what other skin changes might appear? It would be nice to see more color variance for a lot of the animals. Too many of them are green, even when you have feathers enabled. Logically the dinosaurs should have a variety of colors due to specific adaptations. the triceratops maintains this somewhat but on the matter of pterosaurs especially and perhaps the Spinosaurus, shouldn't there be a pretty stark difference between male and female color-wise? That isn't always consistent even in modern birds (Bald eagles look indistinguishable almost despite the gender for example, but a male chicken VS a female chicken are obviously different regardless of the fact we bred them for meat consumption), sure, but for animals with obvious display devices it would be logical for there to be more vibrant coloration.

Nice, but will we get the originals in a resource pack?

The original skins might be good for an alternate female skin for said pack too

....after looking at the thalasso's legs I have to agree, the hind legs in flight somewhat look off. Then again its minecraft something's gonna look off no matter what one's best efforts may be.
