I think that the wraith should have some drop, and should be made so that you won't be faced with multiple at once. Other than that, I support the idea.

You can already get ambient lighting by placing glowstone under carpeting.

This doesn't always work, though. If you want an area to look like a grassy field, but always stay lit, then this won't make a nice-looking light. Look at this example:

In this picture, you can see the lighting done using that strategy, and it doesn't work that well.

This would work about as well as my paint idea. They would have to literally go through and recode every single block

to do this thus creating an equal amount of glowing blocks. There are somewhat decent light sources already although

I do admit it would be nice to have different colored lights. I just don't see this happening.

While this could be rather neat, it would require ambient lighting blocks to be coded in for every single block currently in the game.

    No Support

No, it would not require an ambient lighting block to be coded in for every block in the game. It would just require coding one new block. This block would store data for what block it was made with, and use that block's texture. It would not be that hard to code in.

    Quote from Nickstarwars1»

There should be a defined block for crafting this, or a defined set of blocks (such as clays, glasses, or stones), otherwise this wouldn't make any sense. I don't agree with the drops as well. A redstone lamp is crafted with four glowstone and when broken, it yields the redstone lamp itself. It would make more sense if this were the case. Until revisions are made, you don't have my support.

I chose those drops because, using this, you can turn an ambient lighting block back into what it was made from. Also, keep in mind that a redstone lamp is not crafted like this (it is crafted as a glowstone block surrounded by four redstone dust) and it has a practical purpose, it isn't just for aesthetics, unlike this block.

Also, making it a defined set of blocks instead of every block would not be good for this idea, as the entire point of this block is to allow for lighting to be aesthetically pleasing with anything you build, and you can't make a restricted set of blocks for which this goal can be reached without allowing so many blocks that you lose the benefit of picking a specific set.

posted a message on Ambient Lighting Block

The ambient lighting block would glow with light level 15, but otherwise look like an ordinary block. It would be crafted by placing any block in the crafting grid and surrounding it with 4 pieces of glowstone. Note that this only works with blocks, items won't be able to be used this way (this includes items that can be used to place a block, such as doors, seeds, and beds) When mined, the ambient lighting block would drop the 4 pieces of glowstone used to make it and the block it was originally crafted from, and it would take as long to mine as glowstone. When mined with Silk Touch, it would drop itself.

This block would be useful for making aesthetically pleasing creations that still are lit up. Most of the light sources could interfere with making a good-looking design, and this would get rid of the need to place one of those blocks in your creation. Using this block, it is possible to place light sources that would fit with any design.

posted a message on What happened on your first trip to the Nether?

Entered the nether with no gear to make sure I lost nothing in case lava flowed straight into the portal. Looked around a bit, saw nothing dangerous (or even notable), and went back. Very anti-climactic.

After going back to the overworld I retrieved my gear and went back into the nether to build a secure base. As soon as I started digging out the floor to replace it with cobblestone, lava flowed in and it killed me. I managed to get back to the overworld from the portal with half a heart left, where I died and my items portaled to the nether. I tried returning to the spot, and quite a few of my items (including half my set of iron armor and many stacks of cobblestone) had already fallen into lava and burned. Luckily, I left my diamond pickaxe and my amazing efficiency II unbreaking II iron pickaxe at my overworld base, so neither were lost.

After building a secure nether base, I returned to the overworld. Since it was night in the overworld, I tried to sleep in my bed (the portal was in the basement of my house). Of course, in the time it took to walk up a flight of stairs, a zombie pigman spawned in the portal.

The items not given uses were described in the section below.
I specified that bugs spawn at the given locations when it enters a 3 chunk range of the plaayer. I cannot make this more clear.
I however agree that I didn't specify where all the items come from; I will do that.

How frequently do the bugs spawn? If you kill all the bugs, will they still respawn? What if you leave the 48-block radius and then come back? Will they still respawn? Is there any limit to how many aggressive bugs spawn?
