Charcoal has the same ID as coal. There's no difference between the two.
As for the idea, I don't think it's at all necessary. Place torches on your way down, collect them on your way back up.
What happens when you encounter a monster and you switch to your sword? No light. You're fighting in the darkness.
It should also be two handed so you can always have it handy. And you also have you tool out and ready.

So why is there no option for thinking it should stay in java.
Reasons why it'll stay java.
1) Modding is painless and universal
2) The game can run just about any computer with the right specs
3) Notch is much more experienced in java
4) C/C++ is nice for games that have high end graphics. Minecraft isn't graphical
5) While it is true that it would be faster to process in native machine language. Java is just easier to program for and Minecraft still needs to be optimized (the game is still a work in progress).
I am asking why there is no option for staying in Java on the poll. Not saying it should change.

I know twenty dollars is way too much. I had to go beg on the street just to get the money to buy Minecraft. And a hope you know that he already has a development team of 15 or so people. That plus a **** ton of taxes in Sweden, Takes away around 75% of that sum. Earlier today I was planning on going mining. So I was gonna set my 20 dogs (20 Dogs, Ujelly?) to sit while I went mining. I did this because there was a lot of lava there. But I could only set one to sit down before I had to go bake a couple corn brownies. This dog's name was Scruffy. I came back and went down to mine completely forgetting about the dogs. Right before the staircase is a 5x5 pit of fire to destroy unwanted items. Being the crazy ass Batman That I am, I went around it. Unfortunately my puppy friends were not as smart as me. 19 ****ing dogs burned to death at the same time in front of my eyes. I could do something about it, But all my diamond tools were on my plus my diamond armour and the nearest chest was in the mine. (Which by the way is at Layer 1) So the one dog I set down, Scruffy. Just stared at me in horror. As if expecting me to help his canine friends. But I let them down. I turned around. And deserted them. So for the past 4 or so hours Scruffy has been giving me the cold shoulder whenever I would give him porkchops. (He would just turn his head and be silent.) And whenever I told him to sit his head turns almost upsidedown. And he has not made a bark or pant for the entire time. Its ****ing creepy. Im thinking of turning the entrance of the doggy door into a bottomless pit just so he will stop staring at me like that. But that will fill me with more guilt. What do?
Yeah its pretty stupid. If a zombie broke into my house and started eating my face I would just chill. Or some dumbass giant exploding penis came ontop of me and started raping me I would just sleep through that ****.

I completely agree. I think dogs will be useless. They are just in the game so the kids that play the game can play with a fake dogs, and peter molyneux can bring his unhealthy attraction to dogs to minecraft.
For those that don't know peter molyneux was the one that got notch to put wolves in the game, he apparently has some sort of fetish, as in The Fable games your character gets strangely intimate, and SLEEPS with his dog. Also peter molyneux seems to think players can get attached to NPCs with on line of dialogue. I think that **** should stay out of minecraft But OH WELL.
Wolves are just so the pathetic people that play this game, who can't afford real dogs or real friends can feel loved by a fake pixel dog. Dog's don't add or enhance the game at all.
That or wolves are for people who don't want to constantly fight hordes of undead with their bare hands and would rather have an ingame minion do it for them.
Thats like saying saddles are for people that can't ride horses in real life. Or mods that add humans are for people that can't have real friends. THEY ARE BEING ADDED TO MAKE A ****ING GAME MORE FUN.
