posted a message on Suggestion: Remove of Achievements
    Quote from JimmyB »
Hopefully in less than a decade, we'll look back and laugh at the fad of this constant, ingame pat-on-the-back alerts along with DLC and episodic gaming.

If the game needs a tutorial, put in a tutorial! As a tutorial, it fails. How hard would it be to have a demo level with a couple signs or RPish self-narration. "It'll get dark soon. I'll need a shelter. I might be able to make one with wood if I can knock down a tree or I could build a temporary sod house..." Hell, it doesn't even hint how a player is suppose to cook a fish let alone catch one.

Nah, we'll direct players to ride a pig off a cliff instead of developing new monsters/animals/blocks/recipes/biomes/etc.

"Achievements" in a sandbox game is dumb and it is dumb because in a sandbox game, you are suppose to be the source of imagination. You build stuff. You destroy stuff. You carve a large butt in a mountain or sculpt a zen garden.

I wouldn't post this if they actually had a point, if "survival" mode required more to survive than digging a 1x1x2 hole and sealing yourself in, if there was an "adventure" mode to go around killing increasing more difficult monsters or a "just livin' in the woods" mode. The increasing disparity in content from mods and unmodded Minecraft is just staggering.

This is not supposed to be a tutorial that hands everything to you on a silver platter. It gives you directions while still letting you have those discoveries for yourself. Achivements also, as once said, motivate people to be creative, like building a minecrt track, or raiding a dungeon to get a saddle.

    simplicity is key!

And there you have contradicted yourself.

On the contrary! You have also done the same, you are suggesting to get a mod, then if i would like to take it off use anothor mod! That is not simple. This idea of a trash can my obfuscate you but don't worry it is very simple indeed! Just like a bed you can carry it around and use it as neccisary.

But you are just making it more complicated by making a complete new item when you could just make a pit with lava in it.

when a block of sand touches water--bang! you've got DIRT!
i know that this could help me in a lot of ways, and if it can help me, it can help other people. i seem to spawn in the desert a lot, and i don't really want to make my house far away from my spawn point. i need wood, nice and simeple. i can't plant the sapling from the dead tree in the desert. however, if i could dig out a block and put some water in, i could have some dirt to plant the sapling on.

you might say that you could just go into the next climate over and risk getting helplessly lost to get a couple blocks of dirt, instead of going to the waters edge which is usually pretty close to the desert and collect a block, bring it back home, and you've now gotten yourself a supply of dirt without risking your house. i think that it's pretty reasonable.

How would you get a sapling without first going to a forest biome?

    No.

Great feedback. I'm sure you said "No." because you don't want your stuff to burn. Sorry, didn't mean to suggest something that would make it too challenging for you. Classic is hardcore.

    Bookshelves can burn.
Paintings on flammable blocks fall off when the blocks behind them burn.
Doors can burn if the block under them is flammable, and it gets burnt.
Wooden half blocks are just a reskin of stone half blocks.

And as for your second suggestion, it has been suggested before.
