So, having visited The End for the first time in my 8732 MC day old world just under a week ago, I've been doing some exploring. I used AMIDST to locate the best area in the inner ring of outer islands for the possibility of an End House close to the portal, but the best options seemed all to the South (AMIDST gives two options, a "possible" house, or a "likely" house). So over the last few days i've been killing the dragon again and again to generate new portals as none of them were Southern, and after 4-5 kills, and still no South facing portals, i decided to back-up my game save and try a few portals - if there was nothing close at hand, I would reload the save so that area would be unexplored again - the reason being I wanted to leave some unexplored areas off of portals for future updates to The End where new things might spawn or be added. After exploring the first five portals, I found one smallish End house (with no ship) which was accessible without crossing islands, and one larger house with an End Ship which I could just see on an Island that had no easy means of reaching. So, i killed a few more Dragons (now at 9) and finally managed to find an accessible large End House and Ship. But even after 9 portals, still no South facing ones!

A view of The End with my Assault Tower, which I built to use to easier destroy the crystals when the dragon is spawned.

Screenshot from Minutor showing the portals so far (numbered in order they were created)

    View from the tower

    Whippin that Dragon ass! :P

Walkway I built between two islands to get to the End House quicker as you could go overland but it was the long way round.

Slimes can climb ladders, maybe he spawned under ground and found his way to the surrface and climbed the ladder.

If I saw one in my world I will give him a medal! :)

Apart from the fact the bottom ladder is missing which should prevent mobs climbing up, in order to have reached the area the ladder is in the first place he would have had to open a button controlled 3-4 second Piston door. :)

    Skeleton with a sword

This guy came out of my XP mob room after i'd just kiiled some zombies in there, one of whom dropped the sword he was wielding. I didnt realise skeletons could pick them up, and when they do they move as fast as their wither cousins in the nether. He was coming at me like a goalkeeper!

    Witch Temple

This was where my current world first started (in 1.4.7 i think) when someone made a thread on the forum about this desert temple that spawned witches like normal mobs (because it was within the bounds of the swamp biome or something). He posted the seed which i used and i went from there. Other seeds also had this phenomenon, but after i think it was 1.6, they were corrected and no longer spawned them in the same manner.

    Bedrock Glitch

This was after i visited an old part of my world i hadnt been to in a while, some of the jungle biome i was in got corrupted, this large phantom chunkj of bedrock in this tree being the most major. Fortunately disappeared after a restart, but i seem to experience this kind of glitch more often in recent times, due to the size of my world i guess...

    House Inflation!

This was a village i found after trying out an amplified world. Pretty lonely for anyone living at that top house!

    Ghast Fireball

This sometimes happens when a Ghast fires a fireball and you leave the nether before it hits anything (something like this). You can find them suspended in space. Hitting them causes them to fire off like you'd laucnhed it.

    World Generation - Different Versions

If you have a big world that has spanned diff versions of Minecraft, you've probably seen this where some versions of MC (such as 1.6) change the biome generation mechanics, so when you explore new areas of your world in these newer versions, biomes partially generated in old versions end abruptly and the new biome starts, giving rise to sheer cliff faces or water stopping at the edge of a ravine as below

    Underwater Air-Pockets

Been a few threads about these, havent seen them much in recent times, but they are underwater air pockets, always around 4 x 2 x 3 blocks, that sometimes generate in oceans. I think someone explained its to do with mineshaft generation directly below them somewhere ...

    Solitary Water Block

    'Nuff said.

    Shaved Trees

This was a jungle biome where i discovered a line of "shaved" foilage and trees. I spotted it because i was using a map program, and it stood out, so i went for a look ... not seen anything like it before or since.

    Slime in the Nether

I don't know how this guy got into my nether minecart tunnel. The portal in the overworld in an ice spikes biome at Y=92, only accessible by ladder. My guess is he was supposed to be a naturally spawning magma cube but he was glitched as a slime in some way.

    Pigman Posse

I found this more humerous than anything. I was in my Blaze Farm, and i'd angered some pigman earlier on my way there, but they couldnt get into the farm. When i left, I could hear some close by, so i went to look, turned a corner, and there was this long line, nearly all moving at the same pace and step! The new AI update for the Pigman is quite interesting ...!

    Quote from PixlPlex»

    1) I believe that most big enderman farms are build at a large distance from the mainland out into the void so that endermen don't have anywhere else nearby to spawn. It makes the farm more efficient and if it's more than a few hundred blocks out it should be safe from the dragon which will stay close to the main island, assuming you do, during the fight. If it did manage to get to your farm then I'm pretty sure that it would just destroy everything while simply passing through any invulnerable blocks so you can't really defend it.

Building on one of the outer islands sounds like a good idea; I'm not sure whether endermen can spawn there or not since I've never been but I've always imagined that they do (obviously the farm wouldn't work if they don't).

    2) I didn't know that the pillars went so far underground but yes, they will entirely respawn wherever they've been broken so I'd build my tunnels around them if I was you.

    I hope I helped.

Thanks for that. Endermen do spawn on the outer islands, and if you end up on a smallish island with no other close by, it can get quite packed - which would be good for a farm. Also, if the dragon can destroy vulnerable stuff inside invulnerable blocks, makes me wonder where I can put some chests for safety; currently I have a tunnel extending from the start platform to right under the exit portal, about 7-8 blocks above, and have some chests there - a resummoned dragon could destroy those?

BTW, the tunnel floor is y=49 and the pillars certainly go lower, will have to check how far.

Also, if I resummoned the dragon then teleported to the outer islands, the dragon would follow? Not that I think it would be an issue; if I resummoned the dragon, I'd kill it before I went anywhere else, but just wondered ...

posted a message on A couple of Q's about The End ...

So, day 8723 in my MC SMP world (PC, 1.10.2 & named "Witchlight" for those who care) my bud and I this lunchtime went to my world, finally to go to The End and slay the Dragon. After an abortive 1st attempt (in which we discovered Wither Skulls as helmets don't stop you eyeballing Enderman) we managed to kill him on the 2nd attempt (after I valiantly laid down my life in a frenzied damage inducing melee attack so my buddy could finish him off easily - well that's my version :D ).

    So I have a couple of Q's ...

    1) Only certain blocks in The End are indestructable to the dragon, like End Stone and Obsidian. My intention is to resummon the dragon at some point to get more dragon breath, but I also had the idea of building an Enderman farm of some design - however, if i built it on the centre island, i'm assuming he cant damage it, as long as the external of the farm is completely shileded by one of these indestructable blocks? Or would it be better to consider making a farm on one of the Outer Islands where the Dragon doesnt go ...

    2) During resummoning, the Wiki states "When the dragon is respawned, a series of explosions resets the obsidian pillars, iron bars, and Ender crystals" - I assume the pillar arrangement (if they vary each world, i dont know) will stay the same; and any missing Obsidian i've mined will be replaced. I ask because i have some underground tunnels that pass thru the underground part of a few pillars (i just mined straight through the obsidian) so will they be filled back in during a resummon? Should I make my tunnels go round the pillars?

Derman if you have a very recent backup I would be tempted to just revert to it if I were you. World corruption is an insidious thing and rears its ugly head in sometimes unexpected ways farther down the road.

Well, after my previous post, I've just had another power loss (which is annoying in itself as I thought I'd fixed it) during MC, however when I reloaded, I discovered a square around 16x16 blocks that had regenerated back to the original world terrain - right in the middle of my underwater dome I'd built! So much kudos to you; luckily i was able to replace the specific region mca. file with one I had from an earlier save and it rebuilt the area of the dome correctly without affecting the area I'd been working on which was in the mca. file next door. Think i'll have to pore over my world a bit and look for any other glitches from the previous crashes ...

Yeah, possibly, but I've gone on a bit since then and don't wanna go back. I've had other crashes where the PC has locked up in MC and that did indeed produce corrupted saves, and I have replaced with an earlier save, but the recent ones where the PC lost power, I just seem to be put back a few seconds prior to the crash, and nothing seems out of place.

Thanks TMC, the contents of the game save stats folder had four random named json files in it, so I deleted them all and copied a json file from an earlier save (that also had four, so I chose the biggest file in kb) and that seems to have done the trick, although I don't know how accurate it is now ...

posted a message on Achievements / Statistics

Hi, I have a Q about the above, I recently suffered from some over-heating on my PC which caused it to shutdown suddenly on three occasions, all of them when playing Minecraft (I know it can be pretty PC intensive). Although I seemed to have suffered no map corruptions as far as I can see, the other day when chopping down a tree I suddenly got the "Got Wood" achievement or whatever it is - so I checked my achievements and stats and they basically show all my achievements gone and my stats have been reset as well. I know these things tended to get reset when you upgraded to a new version of MC, but I thought that was changed a few versions ago so it didn't reset - however, I also went up to version 1.10.2 recently (from 1.9) during the period of my PC crashes and am wondering whether the crash or version change reset them, and if it was the crash, can I get them back by replacing whatever file contains them as I have multiple game saves stretching back since the world was started (around 1.5)...

Okay, I guess it's possible...but you'd still have to play for, like, 10 years, take 36-hour mining sessions, and pretty much live underground at y=11. I feel skeptical that's what he did, but...it's possible, I suppose.

My world is 8600+ MC days old, and has four major bases, both of which have heavily explored surrounds and outlying areas. As the TMC suggests, I used Fortune III on all my mining, and quite a bit in the early days, when I used to go mining and use Minutor to locate deposits. Still, the horse used up nearly all my diamonds, which I had to source from all the bases in order to complete it. This also included several stacks I rediscovered at my first base I had acquired through a duplication glitch but was reluctant to use at the time, so I just left them originally..

posted a message on What have you done recently?

Since 1.8 I had a couple of tagged witches in a makeshift enclosure so i could listen to the cackling! I decided a while back i'd make somekind of extended witch hut for them just off my current base, and last week, i finally got round to building it, although it ended up being a house more than a hut. I managed to lure both witches inside, but somehow as i was trying to get out, they ended up attacking each other when they were trying to attack me and kept potion bombing each other. So in the end I killed one, and now the other witch, Desmei (named after a witch in the Jack Vance Lyonesse trilogy) lives all alone. Still, i did try and make it nice for her, however she still feels annoyed (at me imprisoning her most probably) and does try to lob potions at me from her balcony if she's outside whilst taking my morning swim ... ( :P )

posted a message on 2 Enchantments on 1 book?

When using a multiple enchanted book on an item, only those applicable to the particular item will work; the others are just lost.

I have quite a few multiple enchant books as you can also get them off the Enchanting table at the higher levels. I have a book with 4 on it, not sure if you can get more.

Actually, I have a Q about multiple enchants; if you had a book with Sharpness and Smite on, which one would you get if you enchanted a sword, as both are mutually exclusive? I assume it would be just the first one on the book but I don't know ...
