Let's face it. DLC, add-ons, in app purchases, advertising in app .... its the business model of today with most of the more popular titles on the market. It would be foolish on Microsoft's part to not implement the same ideas, in some form, into Minecraft. They will want to generate profits at every corner possible. And it's certainly not going to happen with the current business model. In which the user purchases Minecraft PC and gets any/all future updates/mods for free. Eventually your "new" sales dry up. Time to find a new way to make more money off this monster!
The xBox version already employs this model. Texture packs, skins, avatar items ... all for a fee. With minimal freebies here and there. What does that mean for the future of MC?? Get your wallets out.
Mojang I think was mostly in it for the love of the game and community. Microsoft ... loves money.
