posted a message on Notch is getting Boned by PayPal
How does PayPal even work, what is the legality behind it? If they are doing this I imagine it isn't anything like a typical bank who are bound by law to give you your money back when you ask for it (unless it's from criminal investigations, but I don't think that is the case here if it's PayPal that plans on keeping the money instead of some type of government).

Is PayPal basically equivalent to opening a bank account with some guy and hoping he actually gives you your money? Cause it sure sounds like it.

posted a message on Client Crashes while Server Stays Up
It seems to have to do with loading other parts of the level. Has never happened to me while standing still. Accidentally left minecraft on overnight yesterday and when I came back the next day (10+hrs later) I was still connected. Jumped on a boat, sailed back toward the spawn to see what had changed overnight, game freezes & then goes to black screen.

I was thinking about searching for a nice tall mountain to carve out into a giant fortress, rather than building one. Would save me from having to burn cobblestone to get that smooth natural look.

Or just arrow spam infinitly as a skeleton...
However, maybe one can just make seperate spawn house of those who spawn as monsters!

There could be restrictions, like you can only use your blow up ability in close proximity of another player, and if they hit you it knocks you back and cancels it like a real creeper.

It's running pretty good for me. I usually clear forests with fire to make room for building space, which gives me severe fps problems in indev, but infdev still runs smooth when I do it (even with all those gigantic trees).

posted a message on Infdev New Ma... Suddenly Leaves, Thousands of Them!
I've been trying to build a good tree house in infdev lately, but it's hard to keep it completely hidden during day and night due to torch light leaking out at night, but if you make a little curvy hallway it makes it more obvious during the day with all that extra wood in there. You can kinda see a little chunk of my current treehouse just below the cursor in this screenshot (I got a huge forest map too, trees as far as the eye can see in almost all directions)

Hopefully if we get dyes and stuff we can make a green base inside a tree, so it'll blend in better. I'm loving the treehouse potential already.

Peaceful is pretty much a requirement for infdev at least until you get a basic hut built. If you don't you'll pretty much spend your time running away from trees, water, and cliff overhangs while trying to punch mobs to death.

posted a message on don't like the new trees.
Once biomes get going it will be easier to control trees, there could be max tree sizes set for each zone and maybe even a max density (if there's many trees planted in an area that shouldn't have lots, they could just remain saplings or grow very slow).

I think a regular compass just pointing "north" (any fixed direction, really) would be better, it would be easier to add in and would be easy to use, just remember which direction you left your base from.

You don't need the painting, it's just decoration. The wall it's on serves a purpose though, so I'm safe from Jack Skellington if he decides to wander by my front door and shoot me. The only annoying thing is when he shoots at the painting it dislodges it, so I have to place it a bunch of times to get the sweet skull one again.

The defense itself is just the pit in front of my house, mobs cannot make that jump but players can easily (I think spiders might be able to if you're standing close enough for them to pounce you).

Top view it would look like:

    :brick: : my front wall/door
[iron] : equal to ground level
:soil: : -2 ground level (the pit)
:log: : -1 ground level (stairs, in case I fall into the pit)

:brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick: :brick:
:soil: :soil: [iron] [iron] :soil: :soil:
:soil: :soil: :soil: :soil: :soil: :soil:
:log: :soil: :soil: :soil: :soil: :log:
[iron] [iron] :soil: :soil: [iron] [iron]

I prefer it because I don't have to worry about anything wandering into my base, so I don't need to blockade or defend the door every night.

Spiders, because no matter where you are they're a tough opponent because of their speed. Skeletons are only dangerous in smaller areas, like the caverns of indev, where you don't have a lot of room to dodge. Same with creepers, they are tough if you are cornered but if you have a little space to retreat they're as easy as zombies.

exactley, plus their hard to hit, they lunge so fast theres a 1/4 chance of hitting them. you cant hide behind trees, you cant do anything except RUN AWAY

Pretty much. Spiders are the only mob I prefer to use arrows against.

I'll probably be using the standard diagonal jump I use to defend my indev bases.
