well this is depressing, but not really surprising. I asked notch on twitter if mods like betterlight would be supported via the official mod API.

    His reply:
    No. :/

    Like you say, not surprising.

Begutsen: I don't know what's going on there, but it's not my mod doing it. Reading that, I *guess* it's one of the other mods, probably one that changes ei.class (or maybe kr.class).

Sorry LumberJohn. Missed the point where you said "the browser window" in your original post - my mods are compatible with the downloaded version ONLY.

Ok, tried the "deep" command a few times, got it to show more of a gradient, but it's awkward to do, and it doesn't save the setting after you exit & restart minecraft, so you have to enter it again (several times) to get it to the level you want.

Any way to add the deep setting to the SimpleMap.properties file? Something like "deep = 5" which would be the equivalent of entering the command in the chat line five times?

Its not currently doing it, but I will add this for the version when Notch updates.

    Meanwhile, MrMMods v1.8B3 - Now Optiminer/FancyPack compatible
    http://www.multiupload.com/4RLICCBRYB

Everyone and their dog's probably patched their version now by hand, but for those that haven't there it is. Make sure you do Optiminer/Fancypack BEFORE doing my mods.

OK big incompatibility with Optimine, it seems. Will get something out in a few hours.

Edit: *Think* I've got this working, patches into vanilla minecraft and optimined minecraft. Just can't test it runs OK at the moment.

Hmm, looks like something changed in Optimine, though it shouldn't have from what he was saying.
Too tired here at the moment to fix it, but I'll have a look tomorrow. It's not going to be a huge problem. You could try doing

    - CLEAN minecraft.jar
    - Optimine
    - My stuff

if you wanted, to see if that cleared it up, because I can see issues if you've done

    - CLEAN minecraft.jar
    - FastRender
    - My stuff
    (then when Optimine came out)
    - Optimine
    - My stuff

WITHOUT starting over from a clean mineraft.jar in the middle there. My patcher doesn't like being run twice on the same JAR. Thats about the only thing I can think if he's not changed anything major in Optimine.

But whatever it is, I'll have to get to it tomorrow.

Oh, so sad! The mod have a incompatibility with Scaevolus's FastRender, that uses bz.class and f.class.[/quote]

Nope! Install his first, then mine. Works fine.

Is there a way to get deep & shallow without installing chat? Can I just plop those commands in the SimpleMap.properties file (deep = true)? I don't really need chat for anything else.

Well, I just did a test with chat installed and I don't see a difference between deep & shallow unless I'm looking for something different. I would expect it to shade the map darker where the terrain is lower in elevation? Unless I just wasn't standing somewhere with enough relief? Didn't seem to do anything.

And what's toggle do? Didn't seem to do anything when I tried it.

Toggle should turn it on if its off and vice versa.

Deep and shallow should probably be called "deeper" and "shallower" because you can repeat them as many times as you like. It could be that doing it once didn't make much of a change for you, or it could be that the map by default doesn't refresh until you move.

The commands need to be done in real time from some kind of input, but if you don't want to install SMChat you can call them from other mods... there is a function exposed by SimpleMap.class called "uiCommand" which you can call in Java.

    uiCommand("shallow")
    uiCommand("north")

As far as I know noones made use of that feature, so you might have to "roll your own" there.

I use Fancy pak and 20-30 others

this is my result with latest

getting there, but as you indicated, not quite there

maybe fast render messing with it?

    dunno

    nice work though

I'm running FastRender, FancyPack and this, and it works fine as long as you do their mods first, then mine. Have you got the latest version of FancyPack?

I've had the FancyPack people testing a FancyPack compatible build of this and reports are that it works fine, so it'll go into the next release. I was expecting Notch to update today but I don't know if he's going to...

Edit: Guess not (looks like Friday)

Since Notch probably won't update for a few days, any chance of you releasing this today or are you waiting for the update?

I was going to wait, but meh. Might as well.
    FOR THE ADVENTUROUS ONLY http://www.mediafire.com/?kkuort3f7dvclxn

I can't stress this enough - this is only worth running if you want to use it with FancyPack. It doesn't add anything new in game, it is just a test of patching into FancyPack's file, and a new version of the patcher. Can't hurt to get a few more eyes on it.

    Other changes:
    - More agressive auto-filling of input and output now - MOST people will no longer have to touch these at all.
    - Code cleanups - hopefully squished some bugs detecting minecraft.jar
    - Incremental backups - Backups are now saved automatically under a dated, incrementing filename

None of the other improvements (performance, map tweaks) are in this build. They will be in the version that comes out following the update.

How does SMChat works? It doesn't really change anything for me...

A few real simple things added more for my convenience than anything else, but I figured some people would also enjoy them.

    - Works in SMP and Single Player
    - Hit TAB to reply to the last person that sent you a (MSG). Because typing out "/msg Soandso" is irritating.
    - Lets you control the various mods in the pack (currently only really SimpleMap) via new commands
/ui map on - turns the map on
    /ui map off
    /ui map toggle
/ui map coords - Pops up your location on screen
/ui map deep - Enhances the depth effect on the map
/ui map shallow - Does the opposite
/ui map north - Or east, west, south - puts that direction at the top of the map

There are a few other visual ones for the map, I forget now what they are, they were mainly for testing.
New version out in the next pack will have a couple more (first time I've updated this in ages). /ui map save and /ui map reload for saving/reloading the config. At some point I will want to control BetterLight through it too.

Hi, was just wondering if we had a McRegion and FastRender compatible version yet? I don't put any kind of weight on it, given what wonderful things you're working on with the water, but was just curious.

If you install those mods first, mine is compatible already.

So I guess I am a tad disappointed that it's not really a "proper" AO algorithm, but I suppose it can be done very fast.

That's what it's about - faking it to get bang per buck :smile.gif: Though, the regularity of the world's terrain would make it an excellent choice to do a REAL, raycasted renderer, I'd have thought. But that's for someone with more free time than me to do.

Humm, I think I've seen stuff like this before (pulls out physics book). Here's some fun facts that may help:

[*:3kkast1r]When you are directly above water, the intensity of reflected rays is 0.0201*(original intensity). Or, to put it another way, transparency is 1-0.0201=0.980 (you have 98% visibility).
[*:3kkast1r]The critical angle for total internal reflection (light reflected underneath the water) is 48.8 degrees. Beyond this point, somebody above the water can't see what's under the water (the light under the water can never make it above the surface), therefore after that point, the water should be completely opaque (since you can't model reflections) if the player is above the water.
[*:3kkast1r]I've found a website that should help with determining reflectivity (or on this case, opacity since you can't model reflections). Just use 1.33 (IOR for water) instead of 1.5 (IOR of glass).

Hmm, I think a lot of that is fakable without doing any real math. I will whip out my trusty "dicking about with it till it looks good" technique I think. It always bothered me that the sea was the same colour as single block deep pools of water...

I am running into an error with the Patcher. I scrolled the boards and it looked like someone else had the same error. You suggested that that might have an older patcher. i have DL the MRMMods 1.7 and am getting this error.

    Patching class: bi (bi.class)

    it stops at %6

You might have downloaded the latest version of the mod but you're not running it - patching BI.class tells me its an earlier version, possibly from before beta. Make sure you extracted it to the right place.
