posted a message on Would you prefer Minecraft to be realistic?

Isn't adding realism tekkit and the voltz pack is for, or any of the other mods and mod packs that add real-life things to Minecraft?

If anything, Tekkit is even less "realistic" because, ahem, a person stranded without tools in a forest won't be able to build a nuclear power station, even in a thousand years.

posted a message on I need help with downgrading.
What are you talking about? Set difficulty on hard, don't enchant items, and levels will means nothing. Creepers exploded in alpha and beta, they explode the same now. I don't see how it has become less hard. If anything, there's just more things to do.

To be fair though, there is a way, search for MCNostalgia on forums, it allows you to downgrade Minecraft.

posted a message on How 1.8 has affect my views of Mojang
    Quote from Smashingzwan

    Wait what?

I didn't complain he had a life outside of work. I complained that his attitude concerning Minecraft appears to be that extremely slow development and unfulfilled promises are an acceptable business model. It's something I find unacceptable. I feel like I bought a shiny new car that runs alright, but that is still missing all of the options that I was told would be included with it at some point. And as time wears on, the promises of delivering on those options become more and more vague.

For the record, I made the 1984 reference because, if you've read the book, or have seen the movie, then you should easily be able to see a comparison between the two. They both involve blind hatred/love of an individual with very little actual knowledge of what that individual stands for. That hatred/love is driven in part by community participation (ie. mob mentality). If you still think I'm just trying to "come across as smarter than you" then I'm extremely sorry, but I don't know that I can explain it any better than that.

I'm sorry you appear to have taken offense at this analogy.

Well, you know, comparing Notch to Big Brother is exaggerating. For example, much more is known about Notch than about BB, and all this thing it has nothing to do with total control whatsoever. And with rat cages, thankfully.

Hm. Good points, but still what's behind all that? The frustration that you can't play 1.8 as soon as you wanted to? Yes, updated are infrequent. Yes, they are buggy, but still it's the best 10$ I ever paid for any game. If I had to pay for new updates, maybe I'd thought about it, but with things as they are now I'm fine. Yea, I'm anticipating 1.8, but there's a lot of other stuff to do and a lot of games to play.

Maybe my view is biased because I started playing long ago, when community was much smaller and Notch replied to emails (heck, I even got a reply to my email regarding the implementation of buckets), and I'm not viewing the whole thing as a customer. But anyway, I like to play Minecraft, and it's all that matters in the end.

posted a message on General "Enderman" Discussion.
Endermen are the kind of monsters that represent, or embody, certain fears. This view on monsters, or demons, we can find in mythology, for more contemporary examples check monsters in Mononoke and Mushishi anime series, or Silent Hill creatures.

Endermen represent the fear of staring, which Steve has, it turns out. Considering the autistic nature of Minecraft, especially the single-player version, it's not surprising that Steve is afraid of staring, and this fear takes a corporeal form. Plus, people living alone in the wilderness and spending a lot of time in the dark are prone to visions like that.

This explains the origin of Creepers too.

TL;DR: Endermen represent the fear of staring.
