But think about it, if someone has lots of XP and time, and has good enchants, that person will make God stuff, and I also love feather falling, so I would pay 50 XP to get my feather falling IV to my protection IV boots. That's just me.
So, if somebody has a grinder and lots of time they can get the best possible stuff!?... that's different than now, how?

This is the beginning of a build off challenge! Gillicuddy and I have speed built some houses, and we need your help deciding who won! Please watch one or both of our videos and pick a winner!
You can take a closer look at both builds with the world download:

Try ScreenFlow 4 (Mac recording tool). A bit of an investment perhaps but well worth it for recording.

Maly is my wife. And if you check out my vids, you could see that she is managing the applications for the server.

I wanted to welcome everyone here to check out my new Let's Play series. I'm playing Feed the Beast modpack (and I added optifine). I've started by building a city in the Overworld, but have plans to build structures and bases in several dimensions. If you have the time, come check it out!
I'd love to hear what you think of the series. Any constructive feedback is always appreciated.
I've embedded the episode 5 from the series. (The most recent episode as of this posting).

People have been liking it so I thought people over here might like it too.
Note: this is in Feed the Beast Mod-Pack, not all the blocks used in this build are available in vanilla (in fact, most arn't).
Hope you enjoy!

It's just as easy to do this one Mac or a pc. There are tons of tutorials around the net, try searching YouTube, or the minecraft wiki. Both have great step by step walk throughs on how exactly to do this.

He is on a Mac, this isn't helpful.
From finder's menu bar, click go-> go to folder type in ~/application support/minecraft click go. Drag world into saves folder, close finder window. Open minecraft.

1. Your lighting inside this area isn't sufficient
2. There is a hole in your base they get in from

For non active systems, 3x3 platforms have worked very well for me in the past. Just make sure the middle is a half slab to prevent spiders.

Place glowstone or glowing pumpkins directly beneath the water.

I found all 18 of my players for my mindcracky server from the forums. I have only had to ban one player. This is possible because of whitelisting.
For those who think you can't manage Skype with more than whatever number of people: make a Skype group chat, and ask everyone who wishes to stay on the whitelist to leave the chat active, even if they logout. Tada! Instant easy. Every new member gets added to the group and they now have everyone's Skype names.
Before you ask: my server (Beta Ertho) is not accepting new players at this time.

Building the grinder over 100 will have little effect. You need to go over 170 to really get a difference from the height. Also a spawner is more efficient when it is built closer to bedrock. At 100 the entire underground is still spawn able.
It should be as big as you can afford to make it.
Multiple floors always help. The more spawn able blocks the better.
The smaller the spawning pads the better. If it weren't for spiders the most effective (non active) system would have a single block and 2 high drops on all sides with water pushing the mobs to the kill chamber. Unfortunately spiders do exist, so consider a 3x3 with a half slab on the middle. Ethoslab has a great spawner based on this design, google EthosLab mob spawner tutorial (yes, I could link, but I like to make people work for it :-).
