I like the idea of lighting up caves with mirrors. However the idea of seeing ghosts and scaring mobs sounds stupid to me.
I wouldn't mind walking up to a mirror and it not actually reflecting, but just has a couple shine marks on it like glass, as long as it serves a purpose. I like the idea of being able to light things up like the Egyptians did. That would be cool.
redpine, I like your post. XD
Thank your for supporting the wheel and bearing its banner! Those are excellent ideas as well. I had not even considered it with the upcoming pistons. They could play a key part. Pulleys I have mentioned, but the idea of them being powered never occurred to me. Also accelerator blocks to go along with the pistons. You are full of excellent ideas. I had thought of the turbine, but without being able to control waterflow it wouldn't do any good, but with the upcoming piston mod.. Oh man! Why did I not think of the piston mod? This could have tons of impact. Thank you for your input redpine!
FattySnacks, The wheel is a very primitive invention used everywhere in daily life. We can not ignore that fact. Minecraft has a very definite, stylized appearance of everything being square. We can not ignore that either. However I really don't see the problem with having a square wheel. XD
I think its hilarious, but real enough to be acceptable. It would have as humorous effect as the first time I saw animals in Minecraft, now I see and accept them as what they represent. There would likely be an uproar as soon as people heard the word "wheel" in Notch's blog, but I think upon seeing it in game, that anger would turn to disbelieving laughter. Initially the wheel would be hilarious, but people would soon accept it as another part of Minecraft. New players or observers would point it out and say, "Haha, is that a wheel? Its square!" And seasoned pros would respond, "Oh yea haha, why yes, yes it is. Welcome to Minecraft, everything is square here."
Ooo, there have been quite a few posts since I last checked.
Chipmunk9998, Thank you for your support. As for your suggestion though, I don't quite see how it would work out that well, I mean, for placing wires on walls you wouldn't be able to imply which way you wanted it to go very well. :/
I would also want the wires to be able to interact with dust (which I am starting to like the idea of both being in the game). I also wouldn't want the wire to be as frustrating as the rails have become -.- The directional thing can be really useful, but it is often a pain. It would also detract from the uses of the repeater, so I think the wire should behave similarly to dust.
Elijah2200, That has nothing to do with this thread. :biggrin.gif: But I appreciate you posting.
le_alouette, Thank you. Yea, the general consensus seems to be that 9 is too much, I just thought it would match up nicely as an inverse to the ridiculously useless recipe for making wool. >.<
As for wire and dust coexisting, the more this thread has discussed it, the more I like the idea. (I think I will edit first post to show these two changes.)
Win Man, did you read the whole post? The wheel would only be circular in your inventory for quick identification purposes, anywhere else it would be represented with a square model because it makes me smile. :biggrin.gif:
Cubble, Thank you! Thank you a lot. To my knowledge you are the first (besides me) to sport the banner in your signature. And yes, sketchup >:biggrin.gif: Its a very nifty program. I am thinking I shall remake those models and try to texture them. Also the wheel on the wheelbarrow model was acting a little funny, so I think I would change that a bit. Don't you just love the squareness? XD
-gulogulo-, Well in that line of thought cake, cookies, storage minecarts, stone pressure plates, the variance in half step blocks, and many other items would also be excessive. I mean, how often do you really need them? The point is, it gives the player more options and more freedom to do what they want. Also, with the wheelbarrow being a vehicle when you do not need it you could just push it into a shed or something. Then on occasions when you do want it, its right there. As for your suggestions on the wire, I am not exactly sure what you mean. If you are saying what I think you are, I do not think that would work out very well. Ignoring the difficulties of changing the game engine to allow for multiple blocks in one space, it would be very difficult to get the wires to do exactly what you want. Lets get the wires into the game, then you can try to convince Notch to redo the entire electricity part of the game engine. If it works the way I think it does 1 space stores a value of either Yes, there is electricity here, or No, there is not. The entire thing would have to be changed.
ozoxchris, XD ...lol well.. Thank you. XD
Supercharazard, I do not think the wire would be much of a game breaking development. Indeed, I think it would be placed using the same settings as most blocks, however also using the connecting methods dust does, this is just computation. Difficult yes, but its already been done. Perhaps a difficulty may arise when you have a 1 space gap between two walls and you try to place it between; but I think this could be settled by sticking to the side that the wire connects with other wire, or if nothing else, randomly picking a wall. As for the electricity engine, I think it simply lists blocks as outputs and inputs for each dust block and if that dust block gets a current from one of the inputs (which would be a number indicating its distance from the source), it gives a the next level current to all the outputs listed in that this. Now its very possible that this is nothing like how the system works. I am a programmer and observing the system it appears to me that it works this way, however the same experience that gives me this inference also gives me the knowledge that Notch could have done it an entirely different way and I could not be further off the mark.
I would really love to create this as a mod to Minecraft and test it out myself. If anyone knows where I can get the SDKs and other programs to do this, it would be greatly appreciated.
As for the string, you would not be able to make any sting until you first had some. That is the reason string is part of the recipe to make the spinning wheel. Also, spiders aren't difficult to kill. Dig a hole two blocks down, get the spider's attention, jump into the hole, wait till it goes over the hole, punch it, repeat last two steps until desired results are achieved. Also, please direct your attention to Mystify's comment.
Mystify, That is an amazing idea. It hinges on this idea becoming reality though. I love the idea of having different quality of string-based tools the same way we do with wood, stone, iron and diamond. I think this would probably settle the arguments of the spinning wheel being overpowered. Though I do like the idea of having a larger goal for spider silk, I don't know if another armor is the way to go about this. Where would it fit in? Equal quality as diamond? Perhaps have other effects besides just armor? I really like the idea of there being different quality bows though. Thank you for your post.
Thank you for your support DRAGONTANKX and Luther Keeler. Perhaps you could add the banner to your signature? ^-^
It would really help get word out, and I would really like to get a member of Mojang to take a look at this thread. The more views and posts the better :biggrin.gif:
Syberi388, Eh, I've had a couple. They haven't attacked the idea really, just more of pretended I was a 10 year old with too much time and shoo-ed the thread from their view.
I agree with weezr on this one. The idea of the electrified creeper to me seems like a freak-accident. A creeper just happened to be hit with lightening, and you just happened to be there to see it. Channeling lightening into tnt seems like it would be a good way to blow up your house. A better explosive sounds nice, but I don't think this is a legitimate way to do it.
To me the idea sounds rather unnecessary. I like the idea of food being able to stack when in storage, but just that alone has issues, like if you break the container, oh look tons of food that completely fills up your inventory. Yay! Now you have to get rid of it one by one. A container specifically for food sounds excessive. Then adding in sections for types of food within it just seems ridiculous to me. That I will not support. A container specifically for food. Ehh.. still leaning away from it. Stacked food... as long as its not in your inventory... maybe. I am neutral on that one.
killgolben, lol Yea, That was my thought when I first thought of a wheelbarrow in minecraft. I was like.. Wait, wheels are round! Nuuu! But yea, I really want wire XD I think having the dust would be fine, but I'd probably replace it with wire just for looks XD
weezr, Thank you! :biggrin.gif: You should totally put my banner in your signature ;D
terrapin555, You know originally I did put millenia, but for some reason my spellchecker started freaking out, so I thought I was wrong. Stupid spellchecker. Learn English! I am glad gold has a use now. Now we just need to give one to string :biggrin.gif:
Dig Dug Dude, I think putting nine string together shouldn't give you wool. -.- It doesn't really make sense, and it wastes your string. Instead I think it should make cloth. Then more crafts could be made from the cloth. But yeah, you understand what the wheelbarrow is about. I've had several people who are just not getting it. You should add my new banner to your signature. :biggrin.gif:
Alright, if anyone is subscribed to the thread, I made this here banner. Please put it in your signature to try and get people to add to this thread. Code is in first post.

themohawkninja, Why yes.. That is a relatively square wheel.. I don't see your point though. :/ Like for the in game model to be like that?
