you do realise that there is a large amount of greifing because we are in alpha and people are still able easily to hack items into thier inventory. Which means that once this has been fixed the issue of griefers becomes massivley reduced. to blow stuff up they'll need to kill at least 5 creepers, to put lava on things they'll need to get enough iron for a fair few buckets, and so on. This all takes a while and so i doubt that many people will go to the effort to get these items to them and then go griefing. But that is beside the point.

banlists shared between servers are bad
    global banlists are very bad.
all your doing is setting up a system where people are going to be banned from everywhere because perhaps a group of 'trusted server admins' don't like them or make mistakes. No one person is perfect, no system is foolproof and people who havent done anything are going to get banned.
Also the whole karma thing sounds bad too. This isn't a mmo, and invariably it will lead to people sucking up to op's and creating thier own little high and mighty groups. Leave the game free and open, that ways best. and if you are so worried about people griefing you, dont run a public server or get a whitlelist.

Zurik you are just fear-mongering, this is ridiculous and you are worrying about a non issue. I seriously doubt that there would be than a handfull of servers which had 'innapropriate skins' designed to mentally scar children. Also i seriously doubt that any of them would have skins made out of child porn and that notch is then going to be sued for it and sent to the gulag.
add a option to download custom skins from servers / use server skin, maybe with a little warning that online play experience can change or something like that. its that simple. that way people can avoid ugly textures and children can stay safe. if someone underage/anyone goes onto a server filled with porn / undesirable material, then they can simply leave. if they don't its thier fault if they are disturbed (which agree with matthew and doubt would happen). people / parents need to take responsability for what they / thier children are doing. why should we pay because some people can't be bothered to look after thier children properly or take resposability for thier actions?
also this game hasn't even been rated yet, so those who say that this is primariliy a childrens game might be wrong. i don't know what the average age of users are but i don't think its really below 14.

Oh wow the more i hear about this the more excited I become for it. The central city sounds really very exciting and cool. I can imagine it now, glistening domes of Gold, Diamond armored gaurds roaming the streets and grand fortifications. It will be Godly. I'd really like to help build the central city actually, so if you need anu help i'd be happy to come along.
As for what i'd while the server is up, i can imagine myself being a bit of a lone wolf, venturing off into the wild and creating my own litle structures. At the same time while i'll probably work on my own for a while, i'll be building safe refuges and temple of rest across the land for for those who need to escape from monsters or just have a base. However i'll create hidden areas in these bases, full of treasure, yet trapped, so you have to earn your treasure. And if you fail? well theres probably going to be whole lot of TNT under these places....

While i dont really like the idea of Barbed wire per say [ i dont think it really fits the theme that well], i think it would be cool to have spike blocks which would serve a similar function. essentially they'd be like flowers or sapling in that you could move through them, however they would seriously slow you down [ lava speed] and you'd take damage moving through them [1/2 a heart per second maybe?]. Also they'd reduce the distance required to recieve fall damage, while increasing the amount of fall damaged recieved, as well as being quite tough to remove [no normal tool would be good at removing them]. I think they'd be pretty usefull to put around and defend place with or make traps.

There was a thread around a while ago where people filled adminium tubes with TNT and they created these large cannons.

    Here it is viewtopic.php?f=35&t=7941&hilit=shotgun

I tried this for a bit with different combinations of TNT, but i mainly just ended up blowing myself up. I really think it would be usefull to have TNT proof block of some sort, that it pretty weak against everything else but TNT doesn't harm it.

Anyway it sounds like an interesting idea. I've always thought that it would be cool to make poisons and various other alchemical weapons. Im not sure how much i like the friendly mob idea, mobs are mobs and should always be aggressive towards you. perhaps some sort of pheremone weapon which you can chuck onto other people to make the mobs hyper aggressive towards them, so the monster attack them first and once they are dead goes after you.
As for the hallucinary idea, i think that it would need to have a stronger effect than whats is seen in the video. perhaps something that screws with thier perspective, so its almost like they see through a fish eye lense. or they see monster as people and people as monsters, that would freak people out.

In a sort of interelated note, in idea i've had is to create a potion that turns animals into monsters. So your pour it on some pigs and they'd turn into creepers, or sheep become spiders ect. It would be quite cool to be able to raid an enemy base and distract them by turning thier livestock into monsters. It would also be usefull for making monster arenas, you gather some sheep and pigs up, put them in a pit together and throw the potion on them, then you can release them into the arena so people can fight them. Obviously it wouldn't work on players, although it could work on thier corpses, turning them into zombies.

By sounds of it seems like there will be one central spawn city which is protected by the mods and order gaurds. But you can always head off into the wilderness and found your own city, except it don't think you'll be able to get the same level of protection as the spawn city.

Interesting, by the sounds of it reminds me of the imperial city in TES: Oblivion, which is divided up into different sectors arranged in a circle around the central point. I quite like the idea of the sports arena, i can imagine a massive colleseum where you could fight other players or hordes of creepers, or play spleef over a lava pit, it sounds interesting. A few questions though.
    - How big will city be?
    - how will it be made? if you make the city in creative or in survival it'd be nice to help you guys build it.
    - and why 5 torches? surely 4 makes more sense?

    otherwise i can't wait =]

erm, lets start then, stream of conciousness GO!!

    -novacraft
-nova and zuriki's land of freedom
    - the nova mine
    -NZ land
    - the nova project
    - novaok and Zuriki's community survival sever [original eh?]
    - nova commune
    - Novaok's prospekt
    - Nova people /society / state /nation / realm
    - Novaok and Zuriki's Glorious Communist Motherland [ or any other political system]

Thats all. Basically a good way to get name ideas is to write down everything you might associate with the server [ie the community, the land area ect]. Then go into word or something and find synonyms for those words and write them down too. Then just play with them all together and try different combinations.

It sounds like an awesome idea. I always hoped that there were be servers like this, where there is a dedicated and closely knit community and you create your own little world and have fun. While i say that i would probably be in more for creating things to help people, like safe houses and weapons caches for the night, im sure i would eventually go to try and kill someone or make tnt traps [ and probably die or blow myself up].
As for the community side of things, well i suppose i'd try to help as much as i can, but i'd prefer to not get involved in modding. All in all it sounds like a pretty interesting idea and it'd be nice to see how it plays it.
    Count me in!

I seriously think you are overcomplicating things. This isn't an MMO. Just let people trade normally and have the ability to set prices themsselves. Theres no need to have such complex stock markets. Sure you could have NPC's who might sell stuff and the price could vary ther, but i think a simple barter system is best.

    Quote from raquzzic2 »
We should make the 3d option like current-gen 3d!

It would be cool if you could, but i think it requires a lot more proccesor power to do that, as well a special monitor too, as i think they work using polarised light. It would be very cool though. I don't have any of those 3D glasses at the moment, but i'd really like to try minecraft in 3D, even if it will give me headache after a while.
