I will argue that a good portion of the showing off isn't necessarily tied to mining the materials themselves. That's just a grind and adds sentimental value to the creation. It is the time and effort put into painstakingly designing your creations, picking what material would look good in certain spots, making the place have complex redstone mechanisms yet still look nice, etc.

Basically, I'm arguing that it is the act of building that adds the most value to things in Minecraft. It's why people fawn over things built with creative like what the RPGmakers (Jesse Cox and the whole Shaboozey gang) make. The blocks themselves add some value but it is the aesthetics and complexity of the build that adds the majority of the value.

Anyways, speaking from personal experience, building with wool wasn't really worth it before sheep could regrow it. I know I never bothered with wool before, partly due to me liking my buildings being built with materials that could be stable in reality, but now that I get a better return with wool (with regards to time spent gathering it) I might decide to use it in something.

I follow this man's train of thought.

Say you have 1000's of blue wool harvested from hard work in the mines. It's valuable. You can't breed sheep with colored wool in this universe. So now you want to show it off. Obviously the most efficient way to show off such magnificent wealth would be to make a cube. Is that more valuable than a wool castle made from cheap wool? The rarity adds sentiment, but the creation adds awe.

That way, you still get the advantage of getting more dyed wool per dye (you get 2-3 wool per sheep so if you dyed the sheep you would get 2-3x more dyed wool) without getting an OP, infinite source of whatever color wool.

Say what now? Is wool blast resistant or something?

Hmmmmm. In my opinion, maracas should be dropped from either skeletons or zombies when sombreros are tossed on them. BUT, keeping skeletons and zombies hostile after tossing sombreros on them would seem repetitive, as the spider already has that sort of effect. Making them neutral would be a bit like the creeper idea, and making them companions has been shot down already. What effects could throwing a sombrero on a skeleton or zombie have that aren't repetitive or overpowered?

I was expecting more comments than this. On the bright side, I have 100% support in the mod requests section.

Well, if they were still hostile, why would we want to breed them? There's not much point...

You could breed them in the day, without them trying to attack you. But when you attempt to harvest its soul, it attacks back. I was just kinda brainstorming when I saw one in my cow pasture.

posted a message on Breeding Spiders
I know that there has been a lot of "breed this/ tame that" threads recently, but I'm suggesting a sort of end-game breeding, spiders. It would have to be very tough to do, and very dangerous to do. Spiders couldn't be tamed or toned down in any way, but the player could breed them. "Wild" spiders still despawn, but bred or spiders that have bred do not. Spiders in dark places are still dangerous, at night they're still dangerous, and when attacked they're still dangerous. Just about the only change I'm suggesting is allowing spiders to be bred with say, fish or rotten flesh.

    Cool?

Certainly not. If I'm understanding this correctly, it would just be like minecart tracks.

Good for a mod, but it doesn't seem like something in minecraft. Also, people would accuse mojang of racism, so this wouldn't happen.

    wat.
I really don't get how this would be racist. It's a cultural reference, not a jab at the culture?

Old-fashioned bump. There seems to be overwhelming support in the main thread, but a rather underwhelming response here. I'm hoping to receive at least a proportional response, as there's a large amount of support for the idea.

Updating OP. Now includes cacti and lassos.

Well as for now I'm going to let the OP stand in its same conceptual phase. I'm going to switch the magic meter over to "enchantment durability" eventually. But for now, it seems that the idea as a whole will remain obsolete with my opinions in case it riles support.

    Snippity snip.

I honestly think I agree with you there. The whole post. Gemstones should be gemstones. Magic shouldn't be tied to elements. That's just a solid post. +1 would read again.

I dislike this. It adds a level of tediousness that would take away from the people who like to brave the night.

Personally, I feel like 'magic' if it's implemented at all should be more along the line of technological magic. Stuff that you would actually have to craft and then use. Like Fire or Ice wands that shoot out fire/ice-balls.

It would just fit into minecraft better like that.

So you mean rather than having a magic meter, just let the spell-books or the enchantments themselves have durability?
